Dems starting to discover that reparations
demands are a political trap

It must have seemed to Democrats like a good idea at the time to encourage the idea that their most solid political base, African Americans, deserve payment from taxpayers for the harm that slavery did to their ancestors. Particularly when Donald Trump began making inroads in 2016, taking Hillary Clinton’s support among black males down to 82%, well below the 90s that Barack Obama enjoyed. Because bribing voting blocs with taxpayers’ money is such a familiar tool for politicians, this tactic didn’t raise alarm at first. In California, which likes to see itself as a trend-maker for the rest of the nation, the Democrat-dominated Legislature passed and Governor

They are way too stupid to grasp how stupid they actually are. Taking money from 87% of the population who never owned slaves, and giving it to 13% of the population who never were slaves, especially in a state that never had any slaves, and never had slavery......is something that only Demonrats could imagine made any sense at all.

FTA: "Newsom told Fox News Digital that reparation 'is about much more than cash payments.' Instead, he stressed: 'we’ve already been hard at work addressing: breaking down barriers to vote, bolstering resources to address hate, enacting sweeping law enforcement and justice reforms to build trust and safety, strengthening economic mobility — all while investing billions to root out disparities and improve equity in housing, education, healthcare, and well beyond. This work must continue.'" It will be interesting to see what effect Governor Brill Cream's backtracking weasel words will have on "The Community". I doubt this is the way out of his trap. "The Community" is expecting a payout of $millions of dollars$, and Mr. French Laundry is offering platitudes about "economic mobility" and "improving equity in housing". The same old song and dance from the White Man. Obviously, old Gavin hasn't seen the videos of what happens when some folks don't get their fries.

I hope this actually passes and we see how California allocates the cash according to "how black" the applicants are. Will someone 1/16 black get the same as somebody who is 100%? How is one to prove that? Will California have to do what Nazi Germany did in the Nuremberg Laws, i.e. set up criteria and IDs based on degree of Jewish ancestry in this case, blackness? What about white indentured servants, weren't they slaves? What about interred Japanese-Americans held in concentration camps in WWII? Where's their payout? And what if a white person "identifies as black," what then? Will be fun to watch.

FTA: “And another (black California) resident added: 'This million dollars we're hearing on the news is just inadequate and a further injustice if that's what this task force is going to recommend for Black Americans for 400-plus years and continuing of slavery and injustice that we have been forced to endure.’” Hear hear! My ancestors were Quakers who were active in the Underground Railroad and the abolition movement. Did the blacks sheltered in their homes pay for their fare? No! I’m outraged! Outraged I tell you! I want reparations too! $1M? An insult! My family received state college educations that they were forced to pay for themselves instead of attending private colleges paid for by others and my dad even had to work at Sears right after he got married! Imagine the humiliation! And my people settled in what is now New Hampshire in the 1630’s and probably cleared land and built stuff. A lot of people have since moved to NH and haven’t had to do all of that because my ancestors did it already but have they paid my family? Not one dime! Many of those newcomers have even had the gall to try to provide a good life and happiness to their children without giving one thought to all that my people suffered. And that fake friendly Quaker on the oatmeal boxes! Whenever I make breakfast it makes my blood boil. Do you enjoy images of happy Quakers? Not all Quakers were happy so get over yourselves and give me money. I have to go now. I’ll be spending the day thinking of how miserable I deserve to be and I WON’T count my blessings. That’s for chumps ….. and people with lives to live.

If anyone is to pay the reparations it should be from the section of the country that imported the slaves in the first place. That was the North. They ran a business capturing slaves and distributing them throughout the world. Only a small portion of those they captured were sold to the South. They got rich. States in the South began passing laws in the early 1800's against the importation of anymore slaves. I think Georgia's was about about 1820. Throughout the world the market was drying up due to increasing awareness on moral terms. Then the North, once they were out of business, suddenly joined the moral concern and began preaching it to their customers.

40 acres of farmland will range from $6,000 to 15,000/ A. Let's use $8,000, that comes to $320,000 not 200 mil. How many descendants has each former slave created since 1864? Let's say 100, so divide $320,000 by 100 and you get $3,200 per descendant of a slave.

Because Gen.. Sherman lacked authority to issue Field Order 15 to draw up plans to give public and private land to newly freed slaves, President Andrew Johnson rescinded it. A later bill in Congress proposing the same thing was defeated. Had it passed, it would have been vetoed. There was no specific mule proposal beyond a vague notion of an unquantified surplus Army mules being a available. In short, there had never been a “promise.”

The black community has no one to blame but themselves. Their greed got the better of them. Their proposal will bankrupt the state, and probably drive everyone who pays taxes out. If they'd come up with a reasonable and workable recommendation, they might have gotten something from the leftists in CA government. As it is, their "recommendations" (AKA "demands") are so extreme they'll never be adopted, and will be tabled and ignored.

FTA: "...country's 'broken promise' to offer 40 acres and a mule to newly freed slaves." Generally, the 40 acres were in newly-opened territorial lands that were lands eligible for homesteading - lands that did not already belong to someone (except probably Indians). This would most likely be in the western territories. (The "40 acres" was the smallest parcel of land that a homesteader could apply for.) However, most of the newly-freed slaves, for many reasons (such as emotional attachment to and familiarity with the land, friends, family, and the previously mentioned Indians) didn't want to move west. They wanted to live where they always lived, which was non-eligible land at or near the land on which they had been enslaved. If the former Confederate owner couldn't pay his taxes, the state confiscated and auctioned it off. (Enter the carpet-baggers.) This was profitable for the state, so the only way this land would have become part of the eligible land was for the Federal government to confiscate it from the state. Another keg of worms that even Unionists might not have supported. So the newly-freed slaves turned down the 40 acres (don't know about the mule) and stayed where they were. Most became share-croppers to whoever now owned the former plantation.

And based on my previous post, I just had a great idea! Let the reparations be that original 40 acres. 40 acres of California, 40 acres of downtown Detroit, 40 acres anywhere that can be claimed for eminent domain, 40 acres of lands owned by the Federal government - most of Nevada and a good portion of Alaska, military and Indian reservations and national parks, forests and seashores, Have a land lottery for eligible descendants. You get what you win, and you must move to and take over whatever that land is or you don't get nothing.

Reuters on Thursday reported that the Biden administration delayed issuing sanctions against China for sending its obnoxious alleged spy balloon across the continental United States because it feared angering Beijing and damaging the “U.S.-China relationship.” Reuters based its report on a trove of emails between Biden administration officials, plus four sources, to report that a soft touch was taken with China over the balloon, which President Joe Biden belatedly ordered shot down after it completed its alleged surveillance mission. These sources said the administration is still delaying the implementation of some punitive measures, including tougher export rules for Chinese telecom giant Huawei and sanctions against Chinese officials for abusing

They don’t understand why CNN would give Trump a forum, they are appalled that the audience was in Trump’s corner, and they are frustrated that Trump dominated the event, with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins unable to keep Trump under control, let alone embarrass him. Inevitably, CNN’s host ignored the pressing issues of the day and went straight to what the Left really cares about, the 2020 election and Trump’s refusal to accept that Biden’s victory was legitimate (just as Hillary Clinton refused to accept that Trump’s 2016 victory was legitimate). This was Collins’s first question (from CNN’s transcript):
