Lies, Damned Lies, and Mass Shooting Statistics

When a mass murderer shot her way into a Nashville school on Monday and killed six people, most Americans reacted with horror. Gun control advocates, however, viewed it as an opportunity. President Joe Biden, for example, saw the crime as a chance to promote an “assault weapon” ban. Randi Weingarten, the president of the American Federation of Teachers, responded with a call for gun confiscation. The corporate media pitched in with a spate of stories claiming that mass shootings literally occur on a daily basis in the United States.

The left is real big on agitation. They train people to be agitators. It stirs up the nutjobs who go on shooting sprees. Watch the same agitators scream for gun confiscation. Watch our lefty government conduct its own shooting spree. It's called control. All previous shooting sprees will pale in comparison.

The news of former President Donald Trump’s indictment by a Manhattan grand jury has been greeted with unabashed glee by Democrats, corporate media outlets, talking heads, and late-night “comedians.” These people clearly have no idea where this kind of politicized prosecution always leads. Once a ruling regime convinces the citizenry to accept the criminalization of political opposition, the inevitable result is a one-party state that systematically eliminates individual rights. That’s what Trump means when he says: “They’re not after me. They’re after you.”

On the morning of Election Day last November, William French went to his local polling place in Freeland, Pennsylvania, to cast his vote. But the qualified and registered voter wasn’t allowed to. The disabled U.S. Army veteran was told that the precinct had run out of paper for ballots and he had to come back later in the afternoon. So that’s what he did, returning at 3:30 p.m. But the precinct still didn’t have ballots. Election workers told him to return yet again. But by nightfall, it was too difficult. French has endured 17 surgeries on his destroyed leg and uses a cane to walk. But the sidewalks are a mess,

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis approved the “Live Local Act” Wednesday, which in part allocates $100 million to help teachers, healthcare workers and police officers buy homes. Senate Bill 102, called the “Live Local Act,” will appropriate a total of $711 million in an effort to make housing more affordable for working Floridians. The bill provides incentives for private investment in affordable housing and bans local rent controls, News4Jax reported. “Being able to have folks who are teachers, police officers, firefighters, all these important things — you can’t do it if they have to drive an hour, an hour-and-a-half just to get to work every day. On Oct. 30 last year, just nine days before the 2022 midterm elections, Democratic Senate nominee John Fetterman told a crowd gathered here for a rally to pay no mind to his debate performance — just elect him, and he would be their 51st vote. “Come January, when a new Congress is sworn in, I’ll be much better, but Dr. Oz will still be a fraud,” Fetterman said.At the same time, Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) went on MSNBC with Andrea Mitchell, offering a word salad to the effect that Fetterman was fine, just missing a word or two, and that he and his team had been virtuous

Homer goes right at it: “Sing Goddess, the Rage of Achilles.” Adapted to our times: “Sing, Bragg, your rage against the Trumpies.” Alvin Bragg, who grew up in a section of Harlem aptly named Striver’s Row, is by most accounts one angry man. Since he was elected New York County’s district attorney in 2021, he has set himself to punishing the city for what he takes to be generations of wrongful prosecution of black offenders — and incidentally most other lawbreakers. His policy writ large has been to treat all felonies as misdemeanors, which are promptly dismissed. He occasionally compromises in favor of prosecution but only if the crime has

The following is adapted from an address that Lord Black gave at Ottawa on March 24, closing the Canada Strong and Free Networking Conference. As a country with a revolutionary tradition, the United States has always considered the right to own and carry firearms as implicit in the success of the American Revolution, and in the right and ability of all Americans to protect their property. This was implicit in the Declaration of Independence, in particular in Thomas Jefferson’s ungenerous references to the Native people. This helped give to American conservatism the character of individualism, of the rugged citizen, practically completely independent

Friday morning, the House of Representatives passed the Parents Bill of Rights Act (H.R.5), a measure that would guarantee parents a meaningful voice in their children’s education. In a sane political environment, this would not have been a controversial bill. Yet it barely squeaked by in a 213–208 vote. Predictably, the Democrats did the bidding of their teachers union paymasters by unanimously opposing the bill. But why did five Republicans vote against it, particularly considering that it was integral to the Commitment to America on which they ran in the recent midterms?

The Biden administration is preparing to implement a sweeping nationwide ban on commonly used light bulbs as part of its energy efficiency and climate agenda. The regulations, which prohibit retailers from selling incandescent light bulbs, were finalized by the Department of Energy (DOE) in April 2022 and are slated to go into effect on Aug. 1, 2023. The DOE will begin full enforcement of the ban on that date, but it has already urged retailers to begin transitioning away from the light bulb type and, in recent months, begun issuing warning notices to companies. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is really making a name for himself on a national level, likely much to his eventual regret. After convincing a grand jury to bring preposterous charges against Donald Trump, Bragg had to find something to keep himself busy until Tuesday, and a New York garage attendant named Moussa Diarra offered him that opportunity. Diarra was working the overnight shift yesterday when he spotted Charles Rhodie rooting around the garage with a bag, apparently attempting to steal some of the tools and equipment in the garage. Diarra confronted Rhodie and demanded to inspect the bag.

Like most big cities, Chicago has a crime problem. The city is not unique in that respect, nor is it unique in residents charging the police with racism, brutality, and the targeting of minorities. But Chicago is afflicted with a deadly combination: a police department that walks on eggshells for fear of being accused of brutality, thus making far fewer arrests, and a local prosecutor who believes it’s more important to impose her idea of “restorative justice” than enforce the law. The city’s police department is under a Department of Justice consent decree that does little to address the real, systemic problems on the Chicago police force but adds reams

Hillsdale College, a revered institution at which I have had the honor to lecture on several occasions, revoked the Tallahassee Classical School’s license to use its curriculum after the Florida institution fired its principal for showing a photo of Michelangelo’s nude statue of David without notifying parents. At least one parent considered the image pornographic. Hillsdale explained, “This drama around teaching Michelangelo’s ‘David” sculpture, one of the most important works of art in existence, has become a distraction from, and a parody of, the actual aims of classical education. Of course, Hillsdale’s K-12 art curriculum includes Michelangelo’s ‘David’ and other works of art that depict the human form.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, yesterday, March 31, was proclaimed to be Transgender Day of Visibility. This apparently started back in 2010, though I don’t recall hearing about it until this year. It is, perhaps, somehow appropriate that they assigned this holiday to fall the day before April Fools Day, but that’s a debate for another time. There was some confusion over the name because a group of trans activists had also declared March 31st to be the “transgender day of vengeance.” (That wound up being canceled at the last minute, apparently when people noticed it and started talking about it on social media.)

"But based on the news reports, if they're accurate, this is an abomination."The former attorney general delved into the legal arguments that will likely be made by the Manhattan District Attorney's Office. "The claim is that [recording the Cohen reimbursements as legal payments] is false and therefore violated a misdemeanor statute in the first instance against false documents," Barr said. "I actually don't think that's a valid claim in this case, because the statute actually requires that it be done with the intent to defraud."
