Communism and other state-controlled economies have always wrestled with the problem of “useless mouths” If the state feeds, then who shall it feed? The easy answer: only those who work. Some Marxists felt that there was a reciprocal obligation to work. No work, no grub. “There can be no stronger or more pressing motive to work for the society in which all participate than this unshakable sense of communal service. But where this sense is lacking and physical disability or mental laziness engenders a shirker,

What do you do when a nation with 100 million people only has jobs for 90 million, or 50 million or 10 million? An honest competent society with honest competent leadership does not let the jobless starve but all these unemployed people will not have an income to pay for anything. We are not there yet, but someday we will.

All this is mostly projections; “what-ifs?” Even back in the fifties, there was a lot of imaginary scenarios about the future; very little came true (cell phones, for one). Well, according to the Fifties futurists, here we are! There are no ubiquitous flying cars nor monorail systems in any major cities I know of. Human initiative and resources are the limiters. Right now, it takes vast mining to provide the few elements for EV batteries. Of course, EV’s are showing to be as useful as windmills and solar panels. Man, as in the image of the Creator, will never be replaced. Nothing of human artifice lasts indefinitely. Just a thought; can there ever possibly be a robot plumber to fix a leaky toilet?

The Marxists said it: kill all the "useless mouths." Then they did it. The Nazi's said it, too. Then they also did it. Now our Left's globalist elites are saying it. Their elites are paving the way to do it even more than they already have. Apparently covid was not enough. Covid vaxes were not enough. Covid vax side effects on fertility are not enough. The deaths from eating bugs (and the parasite in bugs) won't be enough. Wars might just do it.

The purpose of an economy is people. The AI economy’s output will be purchased by people. I see AI as a nightmare advertising program. Embedded in your car, your refrigerator. The UBI will be funded out of a tax on profits made from purchases of goods/services purchased with money provided by UBI? There won’t be enough for everybody but the killers who survive the other killers will live very well. UBI is another scam to impoverish people. And they will probably fall for it.

I have a hobby doing historical re-enactment of the late medieval/early Renaissance period. 99% of the jobs which people performed back then have been automated. Most of them had been automated before my grandparents were born. And, yet, there are still jobs for people. My job didn't exist when I was in high school.

Large Language Model AIs can already pass the Bar and Medical Licensing Exams and their capabilities are growing fast. I am a programmer and Microsoft's new Copilot bot can already automate most of what I do. There is no doubt in my mind that many professions will soon become obsolete and / or the number of positions available for humans will go way down as the routine stuff gets offloaded to AI bots

The World Health Organization (WHO), funded primarily by the CCP and Bill Gates tag team, has been very busy getting its so-called “pandemic treaties” into place, which in effect hand over national control of a state’s public health response to unaccountable multinational bureaucrats — whose interests, not unimportantly, are not shared by the populations over which they exercise authority. Relatedly, the WHO also succeeded recently in instituting “vaccine passports” across the European Union. Dovetailing with both of those projects of social control is the organization’s declaration of war on something called an “infodemic.”

With the first weekend of summer upon us, we turn our thoughts to leisure activities. Perhaps you’re keeping an eye on baseball’s developing pennant races, hoping your team can hang onto its lead or claw its way up the standings. In Cincinnati, the Reds are on a hot streak, winning their last ten games and overtaking the Brewers, who are 4-6 in their last ten games. The Pirates have gone from first to fourth place in the division after losing ten in a row and 13 of their last 15. Also moving up in the NL Central are the Chicago Cubs, who have won three in a row

Stockton Rush, the now-deceased CEO of (the probably soon-to-be-defunct) OceanGate, once said that he didn’t hire “50-year-old white guys” with military experience to captain his vessels because they weren’t “inspirational.” Well, five people are now dead in the 'Titan' tragedy, and it will forever remain a mystery if so-called "uninspiring" 50-year-old white guys with extensive submarine experience could have made a critical difference to the safety of the vessel's ill-fated voyage. Nonetheless, the event shows that woke D.I.E. (diversity, inclusion, equity) initiatives may now be starting to live up to its macabre-tinged acronym. And as for all the "uninspiring" 50-year-old white men out there, even ChatGPT

What’s a famous chef to do when an unhappy vegan customer makes herself an unrelenting migraine? Fed up, British-born Australian chef John Mountain told her and the rest of the vegan community to “go somewhere else” for dinner — but their beef hardly ended there. Mountain is the well-known executive chef at Fyre, in the suburbs of Perth. He told Perth Now that “A young girl reached out to me and said she was coming to the restaurant… and asked if there were vegan options.” He explained that the lack of vegan options was his “only shortfall” at Fyre. Nevertheless, Mountain told the woman that “I would accommodate her,

For decades, the Church of Scientology has faced charges from outsiders and former members that it operates as a cult. Not only does it recruit new members in a cult-like fashion, but it also employs tactics designed to stifle dissent and silence the voices of those who leave Scientology. All of these behaviors come from the top of the church. Founder L. Ron Hubbard baked many of these cultish policies into the new religion he created, but David Miscavige, the man who took over when Hubbard died, has turned these tactics into an evil art form. I won’t go into the details of Miscavige’s rise to power —

Imagine, if you will (tip of the hat to Rod Serling), a small American town in the mid-South, located on the banks of a major river in a valley surrounded by beautiful mountains. Two major interstate highways pass through the town, making it the major north/south crossroads east of the Mississippi River. Heavily industrialized after WWII, however, this town eventually had the “dirtiest air in the U.S.,” surpassing even Los Angeles for that dubious distinction. In the 80s and 90s, the powers-that-be decided to clean up this city and make it into an attractive tourist destination. Using Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rules, they gradually forced out

Merrick Garland, no doubt one of the worst political hacks ever to hold the position of Attorney General, has sworn that U.S. Attorney David Weiss was in charge of the criminal investigation of Hunter Biden and made all the charging decisions. Whistleblowers have denied that claim, and have said that Garland’s Department of Justice interfered with, and essentially deep-sixed, the investigation, so that Hunter got off with a ridiculous slap on the wrist, and was back attending a state dinner at the White House a day or two later. That is America’s two-tier system of justice in action. But it gets worse. Gary Shapley is the IRS employee

There are two kinds or problems. Those we know how to solve, like preventing hundreds from dying in overloaded people smuggling boats off Greece, and those we don’t, like rescuing people from a sub 13,000 feet below the Atlantic. Willingness is lacking in the former, technology in the latter. To some extent, the problems are apples and oranges. Solving the first requires enforcing basic law enforcement both of immigration policy and ship safety regulations and rescue, if necessary, involves mostly ordinary watercraft. Solving the second needs stuff we don’t ordinarily have like sonar, ROVs and advanced engineering — or may not have even invented. They key difference between

Barack Obama never came across an event that he couldn’t politicize; the recent implosion of the submersible Titan on a dive to explore the wreck of the Titanic—which left five people presumed dead—is no exception. Disney could see even more red ink since these titles are all destined for the Disney+ streaming service instead of other streamers, like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, where they could generate additional revenue. The YouTube box office analyst known as Valliant Renegade laid out his argument in a recent video in which he estimated that many Disney blockbusters actually lost money or barely broke even during their theatrical runs despite the news media spinning them as hits.
