Like almost all polls, Morning Consult gets mixed reviews.
(snip)
It should be no surprise then that former President Donald Trump, in his emails, is trumpeting the March 19 Morning Consult’s Republican primary tracker, which links Paul Bedard’s (snip)article(snip)
. Trump leads by 54 percent to 26 percent, or by 28 points, over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the poll. On Jan. 2, he held an 11-point lead in the Morning Consult—quite a jump.
What accounts for it?
According to Bedard, (snip) it was “likely driven by MAGA support for him as he faces the threat of a hush money indictment.”
(snip)
Trump’s lead over DeSantis in the Morning Consult was mounting before

Most people don't follow politics real closely. Their opinions can gyrate wildly from one week to the next. When debates start in about 5 months the polls will carry more weight.

Another poll to drive the news cycle. Trump was never in danger of losing the nomination. The Democrats appear to be doing these sham investigations to make sure he's the nominee in 2024. In spite of the fact they've already proved it's foolish to underestimate Trump. Trump's strongest campaign assets are his record and these proposals he's publishing for his next administration. I would remind all the Never Ron folks that we need a Plan B in case Trump's not available. I hope all the candidates understand that.

MAGA supporters will write in Trump's name if they need to. They are that furious with the way Trump has been treated. Besides, the country prospered when Trump was president.

It's difficult for me to see how a person of ordinary means can run a political campaign without a lot of donor class money. Especially if that politician tries to make a leap to the national stage, which desantis is in the early stages of doing.
We need desantis and all other desantises. So I hope he doesn't alienate MAGA. I can see zero good coming to him from running; yuge good from waiting: he could inherit what he would otherwise destroy.
Don't let the "consultants" con you, Ron!!

If I what I am reading about DeSantis having the following of Jeb Bush, George W. Bush, Karl Rove, Paul Ryan etc., I am going to have to do some serious evaluation. I want to believe that Ron DeSantis is his own person just as Donald Trump is. That is why I like both of them but if he is taking the advice of the individuals stated above, it will be hard to believe that Ron DeSantis is his own person.

DeSantis is a good, smart man but too young. He is being pushed by the never-Trumpers and not running because he really wants it. He will make a good second place candidate as long as Trump is in the mix.

FTA: "I’ve noticed in the comments section of my article about my weekend with Ramaswamy that a number of people already are touting a Trump/Ramaswamy ticket."
This is the future of MAGA Nation? You can be assured that the Indian government will be funneling money his way, if not already, through American "donors" and PACs. Some might want to take a look at the record of financial backing that has its origins in India for candidates of Indian extraction regardless of their politics. It is intended to increase Indian influence and visibility in American society.
BTW: Anyone here ready to move to one of Trump's "Freedom Cities"?

It is entirely too early for Ramaswamy to throw is name in the hat. He only showed up in the last year. It is to be hoped that Trump or Destantis win and put him in a responsible postition to be on TV and in the news enougth that people get used to him, a la Colin Powell.

Poll takers are in the business to make money...they are hired by interested parties to reflect what they want to hear...and also to make a contest of a match...that isn't much of a contest...President Trump is far away from all the contenders...because WE the people love him and nothing will change that so santimonious should take his wormwood medicine and drop out...not that he officially entered the race.....but the three "Rs"...rove/Ryan/romney were hoping.they could convince him by appealing to his political vanity...the bushes and chenys really want their DC power back...

DeSantis seems to actually believe in following the constitution - a big plus. My concern is that he seems to hope to convert Rinos to real republicans. That is the road to political perdition! In plain english, "It ain't gonna happen."
If Constitutional Conservatives (and/or remaining traditional Democrats) want to save our respective parties, we all need to, for the present existential crisis, unite as Constitutional populists, recover control of the country "by the people," and then perhaps try to reestablish two factions that, while differing somewhat in goals, share a common allegiance to our nation.
Having said that, if Trump could bring himself to admit that he was gaslit by the Covid Conspirators because he couldn't believe that U.S. citizens could be as evil as those appear to be, he could win one more term as President with DeSantis, Pompeo as VP/President in waiting in a truly historic landslide.
"Real Americans" are very forgiving of honest mistakes, IF AND ONLY IF they truly believe you are telling the truth!
Pie in the sky fantasy? Perhaps, but I was born before Pearl Harbor and I still believe we cam pull it out if we just allwake, remember, and work to deserve the sacrifices that have been made - for us - by our forefathers.
