Last week, the Supreme Court decided not to weigh in on Title 42 , an immigration policy put in place by the Trump administration. That policy, just recently ended by President Joe Biden, let officials override rules allowing illegal immigrants to ask for asylum. Under Title 42, immigration officers could quickly return such persons across the border rather than holding them in the U.S. while the asylum application process played out. (snip) Though we did not get a full judicial opinion on this matter, the public did receive a fascinating statement from Justice Neil Gorsuch. The justice used the history of this case and of America’s response to COVID

Former Vice President Mike Pence will appear on CNN for a presidential town hall moderated by Dana Bash next month as the Republican mulls jumping into the GOP primary race.
The broadcast is set for Wednesday, June 7, at 9:00 p.m. ET from Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa. Pence said last month that he would make a decision on running for president “well before late June,” and with a presidential town hall lined up, the former vice president’s decision appears to be coming within the next two weeks.

Former President Donald Trump released an ad on Truth Social Wednesday during Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s campaign launch on Twitter Spaces, making the case that the governor is nothing more than a Trump imposter.
“The Washington established politicians like to talk about how they can be just like Donald Trump. The truth? There’s only one Donald Trump,” the ad, which showed images of DeSantis, asserted. The ad’s narrator stated:Only one who gave us the largest tax cuts in history. Who gave vets the health care they deserve and stood up to China and protected your job. Only one who kept us out of endless wars while destroying our terrorist enemies.

House Republicans passed a resolution that would overturn President Biden's student loan forgiveness plan on Wednesday.
The resolution, brought forth by Rep. Bob Good, R-Va., passed 218 to 203 - with two Democrats joining Republicans: Rep. Jared Golden, Maine, and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, Wash.
The Biden proposal was expected to bring relief for up to 40 million borrowers who could have qualified for as much as $20,000 in forgiveness. The plan has been mired in legal troubles and is now before the Supreme Court.

Not so long ago, America had a great economy, the lowest unemployment ever for a range of demographic groups, energy independence, an increasingly secure southern border, a strong international profile, and no new wars. It had freedom. It had national pride. And all because it had a highly skilled president of unabashed patriotism who was devoted to the best interests of his people.
Now we’re being readied to eat bugs while our overlords dine on steaks. To live in “fifteen-minute cities” while they fly to conferences in Fiji. To tighten our belts to prevent rising sea levels while they luxuriate in sea-level mansions in Malibu and Martha’s Vineyard.

Whoopi Goldberg told her co-hosts Wednesday on ABC’s “The View” that Gov. Ron DeSantis’ (R-FL) presidential bid will have to deal with “gay folks” rising up and fighting for what they need.
Discussing DeSantis’ presidential announcement, Goldberg said, “He has to work on, be articulate, so we know what you’re talking about. I don’t understand. I didn’t know what he was saying. Look, you know what, this idea of announcing on Twitter. I’m old and I’m okay being old, do that on television. Okay? I want to see you do it on television. I want to see you actually take real Americans’ questions. That’s what I want.

Ron DeSantis appeared to compare his own military service to Donald Trump's draft-dodging when asked how he'd cope with insults hurled by the former president.
Speaking to Fox News on Wednesday night, the Florida governor said such jibes would pale in comparison to the hardships experienced by service personnel - with the lawmaker himself once serving as a Navy lawyer.
Trump, by comparison, dodged being drafted into the Vietnam War by claiming he suffered from bone spurs, with DeSantis seemingly keen to highlight the ex-president's much-mocked excuse.

An Arkansas man who was photographed during the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol protest with his feet propped on a desk in then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office was sentenced on Wednesday to four and a half years in prison.
In January 2023, Richard "Bigo" Barnett was found guilty on all eight counts in his indictment, including felony charges of civil disorder and obstruction of an official proceeding.
Federal prosecutors asked the judge to sentence Barnett to more than seven years in prison followed by three years of supervised release for his actions during the January 6 protest.

The IRS whistleblower in the Hunter Biden probe has broken his cover after claiming the president's son was given preferential treatment in a tax probe.
Gary Shapley, a 14-year IRS agent, said he immediately saw deviations in Hunter's tax probe investigation when he was assigned the case in January 2020. He became concerned that prosecutors were mishandling the 'controversial' case and felt bound to blow the whistle due to his oath of office.
'This is a job, and my oath of office is to treat everybody fairly that we investigate,' he told CBS News. '[This case] was way outside the norm of what I've experienced in the past

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) was mocked by Twitter users after his presidential campaign launch, which occurred on a Twitter space, was plagued with technical difficulties.
As Breitbart News reported:
The Twitter Spaces call, scheduled to launch at 6 p.m. Eastern, began several minutes late as one unidentified voice whispered that it was “quiet.” David Sacks, the entrepreneur hosting the event, began to introduce Elon Musk and asserted that this was “historic” before the audio cut out. From then on, the audio continued to cut in out several times, with continued echoing and seemingly random voices
