In socialist countries, the political elites nobly and selflessly refrain from enjoying the fruits of the workers’ paradise they create. Instead of living in soulless apartment blocks, eating stale and unpalatable scraps, and toiling all day at state-owned factories for the sole benefit of the state itself, they luxuriate in magnificent dwellings and feast on lobster and caviar. The rules are for those who actually believe in the socialist propaganda or who have no choice but to comply. Those who actually make the rules in the dictatorship of the proletariat don’t feel any obligation to live as if they really were proletarians.

Last week’s oral arguments before the Supreme Court concerning the Biden administration’s student-loan forgiveness plan predictably focused on arcane legal theories such as the “major questions doctrine.” Relatively little time was devoted to the profoundly inequitable structure of the program. Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Neil Gorsuch did note that it would provide benefits to certain favored persons while ignoring the very real costs it would impose on others, but no one mentioned a fact that will gall most taxpayers — it would cancel student loans for college dropouts.

The National Endowment for Democracy, a private foundation created by Congress whose funding is part of the State Department budget, said it will no longer provide grants to the Global Disinformation Index, according to The Washington Times.

Two of the four Americans kidnapped by armed gunmen in a Mexico border city on Friday were found dead and two were found alive, Tamaulipas Gov. Américo Villarreal Anaya said in a phone call with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador that was played at a news conference Tuesday.

Upon hearing this revelation, I could not help but admire his willingness to admit that he didn’t know, as well having the humility to ask.
Mayor Eric Adams wants the Big Apple’s retailers to make customers remove their masks in a bid to stem the ongoing shoplifting epidemic — but some merchants are wary of how they’re going to enforce that.
“We are putting out a clear call to all of our shops: Do not allow people to enter the store without taking off their face mask,” Adams said Monday on 1010 WINS radio. “And then once they’re inside, they can continue to wear it if they so desire to do so.
Adams said the move would help cops “use the technology we have available to identify those shoplifters and those who are committing serious crimes.”
