These days, to my surprise, people want to talk to me about evil. In a Substack essay last year, and in my book The Bodies of Others, I raised a question about existential, metaphysical darkness. I concluded that I had looked at the events of the past two and a half years using all of my classical education, my critical thinking skills, my knowledge of Western and global history and politics; and that, using these tools, I could not explain the years 2020-present.
Wow -- far left Naomi Wolf? Former far left, apparently!

Todays popular culture is like Baal worship and Moloch worship without the little clay statues.

I can only hope that whatever God(s) there are, have adopted the promised "Eye on the sparrow" and deal with mankind man by man, not all of us in bulk. When the time comes I can and will fight whatever men(and demons) that must be fought, have done so in the past, and then fought my own demons of the pathway to a Faith that really does work....not just for me, but for any I can affect in any positive way, every single day.
If we are all judged and afflicted by the acts of "Society" as it now behaves? Dogs will inherit the earth, they will have earned it.

"And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins,
When all men are paid for existing, and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as water will wet us, as surely as fire will burn,
The gods of the Copybook headings with terror and slaughter return"

Certainly something to think about! her reasoning is well documented and compelling...We have IMHO fallen from Grace and as a Nation are in need of repentance.

She writes so reasoned about signs and portents I have seen developing in our society for years now. The level of self-ness in Our society now is appalling and freaking scary. Humans are like water, we all seek the path of least resistance and selfishness and gratification is so rewarding to our animal bodies and easily influenced minds. And since we have lived under the umbrella of Jesus supreme sacrifice for two thousand years we surely don’t even recognize the “rough beast” that slouches toward us even as we speak.

Wow! A formerly skeptical atheist secularist has stumbled upon the truth! To anyone who is similarly inclined, I suggest a read-through of the late Dr. Mike Heiser's books, The Unseen Realm and Reversing Hermon. Jonathan Cahn liberally "borrowed" from Dr. Heiser's scholarly investigation and explication of the spiritual history of mankind.

As a Christian, the explanation which makes most sense is the rise of the beast mentioned in the Book of Revelation. I am not yet convinced that this is what is going on, but I am concerned that it may be.

We, as individuals, are "Har Satan" as the "gods" reside in our own human selfishness. We lack spiritual discipline and easily succumb to laziness, envy, avarice, lust...
We have put our trust in other men, government, instead of ourselves. God resides within us, our conscious, and we must obey Him. That Righteousness differs in each of us but it essential to our individual salvation and the well being of our planet and its inhabitants.

There is hope for a final solution when Messiah returns, purges mankind, casts Satan (the old gods) into the lake of fire for their final destruction, and establishes God's eternal kingdom with His redeemed ones in a new heaven and earth.

The Lady Chihuahua and myself got in a discussion about this.
Oddly enough, it reminded me of the writings of HP Lovecraft. When faced with an evil so repugnant, monstrous, and horrific, the human response is to kill it, destroy it, and wipe it out without hesitation.
The Lady Chihuahua's response was 'who gets to decide what is evil?', and went on to point out Christianity hasn't had such a great track record at that. To prove her point, she pointed out how the church used to think black people were demonic because of their color.
As to the question 'who gets to decide what is evil', my answer was 'evil will' if nobody else does. That's where we are at. We will tolerate anything regardless of how monstrous, repugnant, and horrific it is.
As for blaming the devil for our evils, we should always ask 'are humans capable of perpetrating this evil?" Sadly, the answer is always 'yes'. How many people did Hitler kill? How many people died in Rwanda in such a short period of time? How many civilizations have been wiped out by another in the entire history of humanity? Probably hundreds. No doubt the victor thought the loser was evil. Humanity does this to itself.
As for the sudden current events, they have the earmarks of being laid out over a period of decades and maybe centuries until everything was finally in place. Not just governments, nukes, and tanks, and soldiers, but also banks, universities, media, and churches, and a host of other institutions. Like minded people all bent on wealth, power, and control with no regard for humanity.
Before blaming the devil, blame humanity. Far too many people have no regard for human life. If the devil (or some invisible force) does exist, it is in our interest to prove its existence because it intends to wipe us out.
