Ronald Kessler is a former Washington Post and Wall Street Journal investigative reporter and New York Times bestselling author of books on the White House, Secret Service, FBI, and CIA
After announcing his decision to live out his final days in hospice care at home, Jimmy Carter is being hailed as America's decent, humble president who cared about the so-called little people during his time in office.
And while his philanthropic work after leaving the White House speaks to that image, Secret Service agents who were on the 39th president's detail during his four-year term saw an entirely different man.

I’m not the least bit surprised. When he left office, his true character came out - nasty, angry, bitter and an anti-Semite to boot.

Not surprised. He was a T**d of a human being. Took money from the PLO to promote their vile anti-semitic agenda.

About time the peanut farmer was exposed. He and Zhou will go down in historic infamy. The worst.

Champagne's chilling, cigars are in the box. Waited a long long time for this.
Not quite as evil as Obama or Biden, but not for lack of trying.

Carter spearheaded the effort to spread communism to S. America. The Soviets and the Iranians had zero respect from him. The movie 'Red Dawn' struck a nerve with America. It's dangerous to have weak and incompetent Presidents. Let's hope Biden doesn't start WW3 before he is replaced.

I’d like to see Carter’s military record- I suspect he quit before he would have failed promotion.

I got a kick out of all those "nice man," decent huma being" posts out here on the recent Carter threads. He was neither. He was a bitter, vindictive man who did everything he could to undermine America (and Israel) after we booted his ass out in 1980.

I lived in D.C. during the Carter administration. There was a gossip column called "The Ear" in the morning paper (the Washington Star). One of the items it published was from one of the stewards in the White House who said of Carter, "he NEVER says 'thank you.'"
Carter was treacherous even to fellow democrats. I remember how he went behind Clinton's back and negotiated a settlement with North Korea that infuriated Clinton.

Only good thing I will (continue to) celebrate about Carter (and I remember him well) is that he was so awful, he gave us Ronald Reagan.
I miss Ronaldus Magnus and Rushbo. I would imagine the two of them are pal-ing around Heaven's golf course.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who remembers the things he did that hurt our country. Never liked him, and won't pretend to now that he's reaching the end of his days. Be glad to have him off the payroll after all these years

So, basically, Jimmy was just your normal average Demon-Rat?!?!?!?
Just like every Demon-Rat president since LBJ, they have all hated this country and our military. And they have all been purely evil. Jimmy was just a great liar and actor, but not a good man, and a terrible excuse for a "leader".

I'll give the man his due: he brokered the peace agreement between Israel and Egypt which has stood the test of time. He also appointed Paul Volcker to the Federal Reserve Board, a man who was a key player in helping President Reagan to curb inflation.
And as to the situation in Iran, I think Carter was between a rock and a hard place. The Shah was despised by the Iranian people and suffering from cancer. I don't believe any American president could have changed the unfortunate outcome in that country.
It's a damned shame that he exhibited such a virulent hatred for Israel ln his later years.
It is good that he did not get a second term.

He wasn't all that bright either. When I was young and not too savvy in financial matters, I signed up for one of Carter's 16% mortgages. It almost sunk me. That "malaise" of his was tough to beat.

I remember the Carter years interest rates as high as 27%, gas shortage...gas could only be purchased on alternative days using license plate numbers, high unemployment, Iran took US hostages ...

All of the revisionist love for Jimmy Carter is kind of sickening. He also talked down to the American people. Anyone remember "malaise?" He micro-managed, trying to get people to turn down their thermostats and who can forget long lines at the gas station after he imposed price controls? Or 14% mortgage rates? Or the hostage crisis? I hate to say it, but Carter was even worse than Biden. At least Biden has the mentally impaired excuse.
