For East Palestine residents John and Lisa Hamner, life as they knew it came to a screeching, flaming halt at 20:55 on 3 February.
It was that day that a toxin-laden train derailed just metres from their successful garbage truck business, which they'd grown from five customers to more than 7,000 over an 18-year period in and around this close-knit Ohio town.
"It's totally wrecked our life," he told the BBC, choking back tears in the parking lot of his business, where the stench of chemicals and sulphur from the derailment remains powerful.
"I'm at the point now where I want out of here," he added. "We're going to relocate.

And it will be with you all for probably decades or longer. What happened to this town is outrageous. And Biden is ignoring it. No help for these people. What is wrong with liberals and progressives? Do they not have one ounce of compassion or caring for others? I'd advise East Palestine residents to find the best lawyers in the country and start your lawsuits now. Sue everyone involved to infinity and beyond. My prayers are with all of you.

I'm sticking with media overhysteria. I don't think this is a good thing, by any means, but typically these things are very localized and the damage is mitigated in a reasonable length of time. It doesn't mean I want this in my back yard....where there are train tracks about 200 yards away, or that I don't think that this is bad.
But, like the Flint "lead in water disaster".....where not one single person got sick, not one single person tested with elevated blood levels....the media was hysterical for months. NOBODY got sick, nobody was harmed, nobody showed any indication of increase lead in blood....the whole thing was BS.
Is this totally BS? I don't think it is, but I think it is massively exaggerated, and hyped by a media looking for money from "clicks" and a media that despises ALL businesses, and is pushing their "modern technology is killing the planet" agenda, which is a lie. Things are far, far better now than they were 50 years ago, yet we are endlessly told that "everything is horrible" and "we are killing the environment"....neither is true, but they give Dems power and money, so that is the story.
Be objective, be critical. Ask for proof of any harm. Did anyone's water test as toxic? Did anyone have any actual, proven harm from their water? Perhaps it has happened, but just because the media screams about it - I do not assume it is true. They have been lying about everything else for years and years, why would I expect this to be honest journalism?
I don't trust the media at all.

That was a mushroom cloud that was detonated in East Palestine Ohio. The Government agencies approved burn off released a myriad of toxins into the air. The toxic chemicals that were burned off will linger for years. Ohio, PA, KY, WV have been affected by the burn off. The Ohio River and tributaries have been polluted. It will take a while for the chemicals to seep into the ground water and well water. And guess what, Joe Baby turned down the Governor's request for Federal assistance. Butt Pete is AWOL and MIA - too busy counting minorities in construction. The NSRR brass is also missing, refusing to answer resident questions. Property values will decline. Who will want to live there? No one in their right mind. Would you trust the Government agencies after they approved the burn off? No. East Palestine Ohio is the new Love Canal.

I would say that I'm surprised by this fubar mess but given the Biden administration botching of the Afghanistan pullout, the COVID pandemic, the Swiss Cheese border and the various ongoing disasters in the food and transportation industries that appear to be orchestrated, one can not avoid the suspicion that the insane ruling class is celebrating the systematic collapse of American society and planning more.

Did anyone's water test as healthy?
Once you know, it may be too late…
Perhaps hire a local water quality team, but be aware…
Evian, natural electrolytes, 7.2 pH, is my water of choice… available on-line, or locally @Safeway, et al…
Here in CA, local water is dirty, too much so to trust local water resources.

Wait a minute. We can afford to put an endless stream of Joe Biden's illegal aliens in luxury hotels, but FEMA can't arrange safe housing for our own taxpaying citizens???
There is nothing new about trains transporting chemicals through communities. We're a big county and we need our railroads. But when accidents happen, shouldn't both State and Federal agencies have plans in place for not only temporarily moving people out of those communities, but also for remediating the damage as quickly as possible? In what universe is it asking too much of FEMA to provide temporary housing for our own citizens?

And also the towns downstream on the Ohio River...I fully expect our water to be shut down in Cincinnati eventually...

"Michael Regan, visited East Palestine to oversee recovery efforts, meet local officials and reassure residents that the government stands behind them."
If the government offers to stand behind you it's likely Pete Buttigieg.

And no wonder Management Fund BlackRock has been silent about the Norfolk Southern train derailment, and China Joe’s has stocked his regime with ex-BlackRock executives.

With all due respect #2, I disagree with your post. Initially, outside of a little local coverage, there was virtually no media talking about East Palestine’s train derailment and subsequent chemical spill. Only days after officials decided blowing up the cars was the best way to handle the vinyl chloride leak did Twitter explode about the handling of these toxic chemicals, showing pictures of the black cloud over the town. The news was then taken up by conservative media (and frankly, good on them.) As another poster indicated, once you know it may (will) be too late.
In 1981 construction crews discovered that one of the tanks holding the solvent 1,1,1,trichloroethane at Fairchild Semiconductor in South San Jose California was leaking. The underground chemical plume affected wells for the local water company, Great Oaks Water. I lived in the Los Paseos neighborhood directly across the street. The church I attended was also right across the street. I remember knowing at the time that of the 3 auxiliaries that women were responsible for in my congregation, 11 of the 12 women in leadership positions had miscarriages. I was one of those women. I got pregnant again shortly after the miscarriage and that child was born with a birth defect. At the immediate time we didn’t realize what was happening - it was other women in the neighborhood who began asking questions and putting things together. By 1982/83 it was all over the local news. Eventually, the EPA determined that the Fairchild site qualified for Superfund cleanup status. I lived through this. This is ONE chemical in a limited spill in the local groundwater. What are the people in East Palestine living through right now? They are exposed to multiple dangerous chemicals not just in the water, but in the air and on the ground as well. The smoke from that toxic fire will settle eventually, contaminating every surface on which it rests. The fact that everything in the local streams and rivers nearby have died (fish, frogs, salamanders, snakes and worms from first-person accounts) indicate how serious the exposure is. When I look back at all the families affected by our relatively limited exposure to the Fairchild spill (my son alone had to have multiple surgeries for his birth defect) I can only fear for what lies ahead for the families in East Palestine. My heart goes out to them. Our government should support them.

If one filtered out all the stories being fueled by political partisanship, how many would be left? Half?
Comparing a derailment to Chernobyl seems a bit much. Actually, it reminds of Bhopal, India, but not as severe. Two thousand people died in Bhopal.
Feel sorry for the people in the article, but some of the cheapest property one can find is near railroad tracks for obvious reasons.

Re #3, if they were burned off, how - exactly- will they "linger for years". Burning typically turns complex and toxic chemicals into simpler, and usually harmless results. Hysterical claims of "Years of Damage!!" with lots of extra capitals and exclamation points is just not factual in most cases.
And a "mushroom cloud"....can come from burning as few as 50 gallons of gasoline....I have observed this done intentionally in an model aircraft airshow with a model B-29 flying by and a 'mushroom cloud' as part of the show. The "mushroom cloud" sounds ominous by it's connection with a nuclear explosion but means very, very little but is widely repeated to induce fear.
Cut the hysteria. I am sick of it. Report some facts. Show me some tests that show that there is something toxic - at dangerous levels in the water supply. I dismiss reports like "was detected...." out of hand as fraud. Today if you put an eyedropper of iodine in a swimming pool it can be detected by the best instruments. And ANYTHING at barely detectable levels is typically harmless, especially in the short term.
The media knows how to lie to us. Put on your skeptic caps and cut through the hysterical reporting and look for a fact or two. Is this a good thing? Not at all. But we have had similar train derailments with chemical spills dozens of times a year. They cause some local harm and are mitigated relatively quickly in most cases.
Right now Traitor Joe needs some distraction from his incompetence and his corruption - so this is the "Look, a squirrel!!!" that they are pumping now in the Enemedia. Don't fall for the hype.
