Rail company Norfolk Southern ran scared of a town hall meeting in East Palestine tonight because officials 'were afraid for their safety' following the chemical train derailment disaster. Representatives were due to attend to help explain what happened and how they could repair the devastation - and soothe fears of potential long term health problems including cancer. But the town's mayor Trent Conaway revealed just before the packed meeting at the local high school: 'The people want answers. I want answers. 'Norfolk Southern didn't show up.' Asked why, he said: 'Because they are scared for their safety.'

If ever there were people who need to be carried out of town on a rail, it would be this bunch. I don't want anyone to be harmed, but I do think they ought to be afraid for their safety, those residents are. Further, we've got to get control of the railroads. They have 150+ year old leases and permissions that allow them to do pretty much whatever they want. That has to end.

While NS definitely is at fault for the derailment, as I understand it, it was idiot officials in our wonderful, woke government who decided not to put the initial, small fires out and then take care of the spills in a relatively small area. They are the ones responsible for the huge fire and massive air pollution that followed, spreading the contamination far beyond the site of the derailment. NS needs to pay, but those who decided to burn off the vinyl chloride are most worthy of tar and feathering, too. Perhaps even more so.

This could have happened in any town. Most of us can hear a train in the distance from where we live. The lack of concern by the government (EPA and Transportation) is an indication that a democrat, who needs to be protected, is in office.

This disaster was a crime at many levels. I hope the wronged citizens of East Palestine are financially compensated for their suffering and the incompetent fools who decided that it was a good idea to allow poison gas to be dumped into the atmosphere are jailed. Lazy, unqualified Pete should be dismissed immediately.

East Palestine Ohioans are fubared by both the State and Federal governments. And the governments don't care. NSRR is at fault. The fed is also at fault as they govern interstate commerce. The NSRR is an interstate railroad. The railroad infrastructure is ancient and is suffering from decades of poor maintenance. So where is the SOT Butt Pete? Shifting blame of course. Instead of being there to help the Ohioans, Butt Pete is missing in action, AWOL. The Butt Pete(r) Principle. Not doing his job. Shame on Butt Pete.

Conservative, white modest income Americans getting screwed over by their very own government. How appropriate this Black History month. I am sure the DOJ spent more of our tax dollars investigating the "hate" crime of the five black Memphis cops beating to death Tyre than all the federal agencies have spent on helping the citizens of east Palestine. So tell me who are the real racists?

Events like this make me wonder if the private railroads should be nationalized. Sadly, that is probably the only development that could make them worse.

We are being fronted not led by a huge group of know nothings and incompetents. Joe Biden is a fraud his people are all a cabal of misfits and dummies. We have no government this past month we witness that. Spy balloons allowed to fly in our air space being shot down with half million-dollar missiles now a 'control burn' of a deadly toxic chemical that could linger in the entire town for a long time, that move/decision was pure Russian Chernobyl stupid. Watching the townhall I can stop the wondering about answers just look at the crowd there's not a black face in it. There's your answer white supremacy they say well all those whites be damned they are not the chosen race to be protected. Transportation Secretary, Glutimas Maximas already said it was racist because the infrastructure didn't use enough diversity in the railroad maintenance so white workers let this happened. I'm sick of these incompetent nitwits fronting this country. FJB

How many flights have been cancelled in the last month on account of computer issues? Another train derailed this morning in Michigan. What is our government doing about this? NOTHING!!!!!

Back in the 1800s, the railroads were the cutting-edge be-all and end-all of transportation technology. Every town and city in the US wanted the railroad tracks to come their way. In order to do that, every political entity from the local grange to the Federal government competed to make sweetheart deals with the railroads. The men running the railroads could make any decision they liked on locations of tracks and stations (including government condemnation of land for their use), set the schedules for their use, had use of the US Army to settle labor disputes, told the government what their safety regulations would be, and decided when and where they would perform maintenance. The railroads became obscenely wealthy and powerful, and eventually the anti-monopoly efforts of the late 1800s reined them in, somewhat. But I wonder how many of the thousands of rules, regulations, ordinances and laws made in favor of the railroads then are still in effect. Why do we have to brake at railroad crossings because repairs to them over the years have made them into speed bumps that will tear out our transmissions otherwise? Why do long vehicles, such as school buses, run the danger of getting stuck on the tracks? Why are crossing arms effectively the same as the ones developed in the early 1800s, except they are now electronically, rather than manually controlled? Why are trains are allowed be so long that when they stop on the tracks, they block cross-traffic, car and pedestrian, for miles, and disrupt traffic for an indeterminate amount of time? And why do train engineers lean on their horns, as if they are taxi-cab drivers in Tijuana? Of course "Norfolk Southern didn't show up". They don't have to. They are the Railroad.

Threatening the personal safety of people isn't a good way to get cooperation and "answers". Is this a bad spill? Yes, probably so. But the Enemedia has whipped up such furious hysteria over this that they are making things FAR worse. I am betting that much of the "problems" are imaginary. Probably people too far from the spill to have any actual effects are succumbing to psychosomatic illnesses....and a certain portion are just seeing a chance to cash in on "my asthma is way worse" and "I have endless headaches now from this". $$$$ is a powerful "illness creator". And the Enemedia is leading the hysterical charge -- as usual.

Recently we’ve heard arguments that the failure of the military to meet its recruitment goals is a product of recruitment policy. Politics are also held to play a supporting role. But these only address the surface issues needing adjustment. The real cause is more complicated and rooted in the last thirty years of constant international strife. The 17-24-year-old populace is the focus in recruiting. This is traditionally where new military personnel are found. So what have these people been bombarded with their whole lives? Constant combat, bloody house-to-house fighting against a foe who seeks death as a reward, detailed accounts of every death, never-ending rotations through

The announcement made headlines and points to the perennial debate over whether banning kids under a certain age from eating at restaurants is reasonable. This debate is, of course, not new. There will always be a steady stream of new children coming to restaurants with their parents, and some of those children will act in accordance with their developmental tendencies.
