Two States Now Have Universal School Choice

n Tuesday, Iowa became the second state in the country to pass universal school choice, directly providing families with funds to support their children’s education. Arizona was the trendsetter for this new wave of educational freedom after Gov. Doug Ducey signed universal school choice into law on July 7, 2022.  Now the race is on to advance educational freedom, with several red states looking to follow suit. The significance of these developments can hardly be overstated. What was once a pipe dream for many education reformers — the enabling of school choice at scale during their lifetimes — is now becoming a reality.

Comments:

This is a wonderful trend. I had a friend in the 1990s who was a Kansas state senator, and she pushed hard for this for her entire career. But, it was an idea ahead of it's time thirty years ago.
Now is the time for this. Stop government schools from brainwashing kids to hate this country.

Not here in Virginia. Gov Youngkin is trying but VA is still a purplish blue state - no way a red state and he doesn't control the Senate in state house so his bills go there and die.

Not Michigan, unfortunately. We now have Democrat control of the House and Governorship, and they are having fights amongst themselves as to how to best funnel the state budget surplus to unions, teachers, and their pet demographic citizens.

Texas needs to follow Arizona unreal school choice by giving funds DIRECTLY to parents for whatever educational costs they need. In Arizona, it amounts to $7,000 per school year to be used for private school, homeschool resources or tutors.

Are there ways to insure that the parents use the dollars for their child's education? This also could be interesting on how it affects sports teams.

At the end of the day, a school is only as good as the students that enroll in it. Ultimately, student and school success have little to do with the schools themselves and everything to do with the families from where the students originate. Students and schools in affluent districts with educated parents are the most successful. Schools in districts with single-parent, poorly educated families tend to be plagued with a lot of disruptive, unsocialized kids that cause havoc in the classrooms. This diminishes the opportunity for sincere students to get a quality education. I don't know how the nuts & bolts of school choice actually work, but it concerns me that these feral kids might have the means of infiltrating and spoiling the best of schools. If at all possible, get your students into private or schools in an area of two-parent, successful families that value education. It is the quality of the kids and families that make a school successful, not the state, building, teachers, administrators, technology, inclusion, differentiation, or money.

So migrants do indeed enter countries illegally and bring with them a lot of crime. That's what anyone who lives in a migrant zone, which includes Europe, already knows, given the scope of soaring crime in such areas.  A recent Swedish study, cited below, certainly found a link: According to a RealClearPolitics investigation, by respected researchers John R. Lott, Jr. and James Varney, a Swedish study has proven that there is a significant link between illegal immigration and violent crime, noting Sweden's sudden upsurge in violent crime traced to unassimilated illegal immigrants.  RCI collected homicide data for the European Union from the United Nations

The steel tower, which once stood hundreds of feet tall, was buckled in half, and the turbine blades, whose rotation took the machine higher than the Statue of Liberty, were splayed across the wheat field below. The turbine, made by General Electric Co., had been in operation less than a year.

We are now three years after the COVID-19 apocalypse began, and the CDC and WHO still refuse to acknowledge that the virus was created in and escaped from the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV). But they, along with all our institutions, have lied so often and so egregiously that 72% of the public doesn’t believe them. If nothing else, that is a very positive sign. The evidence for the lab leak is as overwhelming as the evidence for a zoonotic origin is non-existent. For anyone trained in the art of biology to deny the lab origin betrays either deceit or, worse, willful ignorance.

In mid-December, Dr. John Lott, president of the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) and a world-recognized expert on guns and crime, testified before a Congressional subcommittee on violence and made some startling revelations. Perhaps one of the most important was that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) covered up the fact that armed citizens use their guns quite frequently to stop active shooter attacks. According to Lott’s testimony before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security, the FBI grossly underreported the number of times armed citizens had stopped active shooters.

This is one of those stories that you’re certain is from the Babylon Bee, and that is stunning in its implications when it turns out to be the truth. In this case, the truth is that, in accordance with UN and WEF climate recommendations, the city of Oxford (home to the famed university) approved plans mandating that citizens may not drive more than 15 minutes distance from their homes without permission. It’s called the “15 Minute City” and is intended to reduce auto emissions. Mostly, though, it will reduce liberty, which is what climate change madness has always been about.

There is a strange but all too widespread coalition of left-wing anti-war activists and alleged “right-wing” isolationists trying desperately to dimmish any perception that Russia and China are working together against American security. A focus has been the Ukraine invasion, the larger consequences of which they dismiss except to fear that it might lead to regime change in Moscow rather than Kyiv. The most ugly and ridiculous manifestation of this was Tucker Carlson’s disgraceful rant against President Volodymyr Zelensky’s speech to Congress. He embarrassed Fox News and insulted its patriotic audience by trotting out every New Left argument from the anti-Vietnam war era,

We are all Americans.  That said, there have been efforts for years to divide us for perceived political reasons.  Those who live in the bigger cities often tend to look down their noses to those who don't.  We have become a Blue America and a Red America.  I personally believe that the colors are reversed, but maybe that's just me.  A good representation of red vs. blue can be seen on the 2020 election map by counties. It has gotten so bad that there are discussions of secession and even civil war, God forbid.  It would be difficult to have states against states.  The real conflict appears to be larger cities versus the rest of America.

It is been two years and nine months since the start of the COVID pandemic. In my region of Pennsylvania, the newest milder omicron variants are certainly about, but in greatly reduced numbers compared to last year. There is relatively little morbidity. Nonetheless, we are still forced to mask at the hospital, and once a week, symptomatic or not, because I’m unvaccinated, I am expected to be tested for the virus. Unfortunately, I see no end to this. Regarding the pandemic, I feel like one does after a dangerous storm passes through your town. You spent time in preparation, boarding the windows and staying indoors.
