Thousands of Americans are still in the midst of holiday travel woes following a winter storm rocking the United States leading up to Christmas weekend, but Southwest Airlines is under fire for having one of the highest volumes of cancellations. Thousands of flights were delayed or canceled across the country leading up to Christmas, and the trend is still not over. According to data from FlightAware, over 3,100 U.S.-related flights were canceled on Christmas Day, and over 7,800 were delayed. On Monday, as of 2:00 p.m. Eastern time, 2,990 flights were canceled, and 4,902 more were delayed.

Totally bogus article. One of the highest volumes of cancellations? Whenever I look at the arrival/departure boards in any terminal (particularly BWI), it seems like Southwest always has one of the highest volumes of flights. And is there a domestic airport Southwest doesn't fly in and out of? Go look for trouble somewhere else, Hannah. Breitbart sure ain't what it used to be.

SWA is my airline of choice. If they don't fly where I need to go, I'll reconsider my destination. Besides, if I have a choice of ice on the wings or no ice-up, I'll have to decline that honor. Article needs to dis the boss.

One would think from this headline the the airline enjoys losing money when it cancels flights. They do it for SAFETY. Remember those hot dog pilots working for Air Florida, back in the 80's. that flew out of National airport and crashed into the Potomac because ice developed on their wings in line to take off? Well, the Pan Am pilot refused to fly and all their passengers were in the terminal complaining when this happened. I was there.

I really have nothing to add to previous posters who said better to cancel a flight for safety reasons than see several hundred passengers lose their lives. That bout of “global warming “ sure did inconvenience a lot of people.

BWI is the main hub for Southwest #1. Similar to Atlanta being the main hub for Delta. The airlines are still trying to recover from the Covid lockdown when they laid off thousands of personnel and grounded and mothballed aircraft. Well over a year ago, it was determined that it would take five or more years for the airline industry to get back what it was before Covid. Planes need to be built, and pilots need to be trained. That takes years to accomplish. So, bad weather or not, delays and cancellations during the busy travel times of the year are going to be with us for quite some time.

Girl ran out of interesting topics while the world is going mad around her? Normally I would take sides against the airline industry because the quality of flight has been going severely downhill since the DHS began screwing the entire industry up after 9/11/01 but in this case there were thousands upon thousands of foolish passengers who thought it would be a good idea to fly around the country on a normally busy holiday in the middle of a nationwide blizzard. It's a miracle that there were no crashes other than the normal runway skids on ice. If flights were canceled you can be sure that somebody thought more about passenger safety than the passengers did. One of the dumbest comments you hear quite often at airports is, "the sun is shining outside, why did they cancel my flight?" Flights have two steps, a takeoff step and a landing step. You need to accomplish both.

I surely hope that many others read past these misleading and lying headlines trying to blame this on “airline greed.” Southwest refused to take chances with the lives of their passengers. I was stuck overnight in Dallas airport twice in 2019. Was it fun? Unfortunately, my Southwest flight cancelled because of mechanical problems. I thanked God for an airline that chose to deal with the wrath of a few mean customers rather than risk the lives of many passengers.

As a pilot of more than 40 years experience, there is an applicable "old saying" among pilots. "Far better to be on the ground wishing you were up there, than up there wishing you were on the ground." Complaining because flights are cancelled due to bad weather is just stupid as heck. You do NOT want to be up in a plane which can't continue to fly due to too much ice, or can't make a safe takeoff because of ice, or snow or limited visibility .......and often it is a wonderful combo......."All of the above". If the airline says "Cancelled due to weather", I am happy not to be flying with some bozo airlines that might try with the "Heck, we could probably make it." sort of attitude.

This is why Joe Biden won't go to the border 5 replies
Posted by Dreadnought 12/27/2022 9:51:54 PM Post Reply
As I described last week, the crisis at the border is about to get dramatically worse. There are tens of thousands of people waiting in camps on the Mexican side of the border for the end of Title 42. Whenever that happens, estimates suggest there could be 12,000 to 14,000 arrivals at the border per day. Meanwhile, the Biden administration has no coherent plan to deal with it. Through all of this, Joe Biden has remained consistently on the sidelines. His refusal to go to the border to see the crisis he helped create up close has become a point of perverse pride. And the media, naturally, has sided with Biden.

Twitter head Elon Musk had some more to say on Tuesday about the reach to which the censorship by the government went. We saw with the release of the last Twitter files the pressure that the Biden administration was putting on Twitter to de-platform people over things like COVID. That of course is a constitutional problem when the government is suppressing speech. You’re no longer just talking about Twitter being a private company when they are acting at the direction or because of pressure from the government. But, as we reported, it wasn’t just Twitter that the government was putting pressure on. Journalist Glenn Greenwald was pointing out how — for the “crime”

With the dismissal of Kari Lake’s lawsuit over Arizona’s 2022 election, a contentious saga was brought to an end. Despite issues with voting machines and questions about the chain of custody of ballots, the judge in the case said the Lake campaign did not meet the legal threshold needed to provide any remedy. Ultimately, as I wrote initially when the lawsuit was filed, it was always likely to be too difficult to prove intent (required under the law) and that voters were actually disenfranchised. Supposition, as much as it makes for good internet chatter, wasn’t going to do it here, and without direct evidence that ballots were improperly discarded or

The Supreme Court voted 5-4 on Tuesday in favor of keeping Title 42 in place while legal challenges around the Trump-era border restriction play out. The decision comes about a week after Chief Justice John Roberts stayed a lower-court order that would have ended the pandemic-era policy on December 21. Title 42 allows for asylum-seekers at the border to be expelled to prevent the spread of communicable diseases. On Tuesday, the court agreed to keep that pause in place, granting an emergency request by 19 Republican attorneys general who warned that allowing Title 42 to expire would lead to an explosion of illegal immigrants

All across America, families of service members — those fortunate their family member returned home and those whose family member tragically did not — will leave a place setting at their holiday table for those who never came home. For many, it is a solemn reminder of sacrifice and loss, but for many more, the empty place setting also sparks great memories and, ultimately, great stories. The ultimate fear among soldiers who went off to fight for their country, explains retired Army Capt. Tyler Merritt, is that their sacrifice and service will be forgotten as time fades or dismissed as society's attitudes turn on the reason they were sent into battle.

Since the federal government, with the consent of both parties, just lit another 1.7 trillion dollars of imaginary money on fire, the generally quiet period between Christmas and the new year might be an opportune time to consider an important matter that has been almost completely ignored by both elected officials and the media. That would be the national debt. In case you hadn’t noticed, America’s debt has now reached a staggering level of 31.3 trillion dollars. That’s a figure so huge that it’s almost impossible to wrap your brain around it. In the Boston Globe this week, business and finance reporter Jim Puzzanghera has raised an important red flag,

They want your children, and your efforts to protest will be unavailing.
