DENVER — Coloradan women are becoming less and less interested in having children. Women in the U.S. and much of the developed world have been experiencing a drop in fertility rates in the 21st century. In Colorado, the trend has been especially pronounced. It has one of the nation’s lowest fertility rates and saw one of the sharpest declines in birth rates over the last 15 years. The fertility rate differs from the birth rate. While the birth rate measures the number of children born for every thousand people, the fertility rate measures how many children are likely to be

You couldn't tell it by my neighborhood - I see pregnant women pushing baby carriages all through my neighborhood. There's even one woman with a two-baby carriage who looks like she's about to deliver the third at any moment.

With legal weed, a lot of Colorado’s young people are feckless stoners and that may have some factor in this decline.

The city of Minneapolis has decided to buy the boarded-up Speedway gas station at the intersection where George Floyd was killed by police and turn it into a racial justice healing center and permanent memorial for the Black man. The City Council voted unanimously Thursday to purchase the gas station at the intersection now known as George Floyd Square. Why Does the GOP Elite Hate Its Own Base? 44 replies

It is one of the most bitter and tragic ironies of our contemporary politics that the leadership of one of America’s two major political parties, the Republican Party, utterly despises that party’s very own voting base. The GOP elite’s scorn for its own voters has, at this point, been a long time in the making. The trend accelerated during the 2009-2011 rise of the Tea Party, a grassroots movement fueled by constitutionalism and anti-elite populism. The crustier elements of the Republican establishment ran as far away as possible from the Tea Party, and the 2012 presidential coronation of private equity plutocrat Mitt Romney effectively killed the movement.

Two-million-year-old DNA from northern Greenland has revealed that the region was once home to mastodons, lemmings and geese, offering unprecedented insights into how climate change can shape ecosystems. The breakthrough in ancient DNA analysis pushes back the DNA record by 1m years to a time when the Arctic region was 11-19C warmer than the present day. The analysis reveals that the northern peninsula of Greenland, now a polar desert, once featured boreal forests of poplar and birch trees teeming with wildlife.
