Trump Blasts National Review

Former president Donald Trump ripped into National Review on Friday, arguing that it is a magazine without any remaining influence in an official statement issued along with an image of his 2024 campaign logo. “Why does anyone read the National Review. They are so negative to Conservatives and me, and are seen as being led by lightweights that couldn’t shine the shoes of Bill Buckley. They have absolutely nothing going, it is failing fast, and my only question is, who is paying for the losses — when it loses plenty of money and serves no purpose at all. People are tired of haters —

Former Speaker John Boehner described leading his caucus as "herding cats." Far better, and more American, to be a party of cats than a party of robots who get elected to Congress in order to vote as a bloc in support of bills of more than a thousand pages that need to be "passed first so that you can know what's in it." At least our party thinks and debates freely, and does not unanimously repeat verbatim each day's talking points. You do not have to agree with NR in order to appreciate its independence.

I learned conservatism from National Review. I learned how much contempt the Establishment had for working-class conservatives from Trump. I vote for Trump more often than I visit NR's website. Jonah Goldberg was forced to leave NR when it was revealed he took money from Big Tech in return for NR not reporting on Big Tech was de-platforming Trump supporters. And Jonah "Benedict Arnold" Goldberg...took the money.

I dunno. I spent a whole lotta time that should have spent better understanding organic chem reading back issues of national review in the library of a once great Jesuit institution. I would strongly encourage every self impressed contributor to that once great magazine to do the same just to understand how principled and and influential it was and how much they have squandered. Buckley, Whittaker Chambers et al understood the role of that publication and the influence it had. It shaped us. Like Paul Harvey. Rush. And now the primary function is a clubby little group of under achieving Ivy League snobs who lack the courage, the intellect, the humor, and the appreciation of what came before them but love the prestige of anti Trump celebrity status. A cult all to itself. My guess is the next episode is themed as another collection of I hate Trump articles and DJT isn’t going to stand still and let these pukes get a free swing that they have planning for years.

Here is a fun factoid from the Way Back Machine. Back when the National Review Magazine had a conservative spine, I remember the end of an episode of Magnum P.I. At the very end the main character was perched on a beach chair and was holding up, making sure everyone could see, the latest edition of National Review. By then Tom Selleck was such a significant star the powers that be could not protest or organize an effective boycott. It's a shame what National Review has become..

I carefully tore off the cover, circled my address in black Sharpie marker, and wrote. "Please cancel my subscription" on it. Then I mailed it to the editorial offices. I had been reading the magazine for 30 years at that point, & I loved NR. I never looked back.

Las Vegas, Nevada — Several possible presidential hopefuls took shots at former President Donald Trump on Friday evening and Saturday morning at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual leadership convention. Foremost among these was former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who likened Trump supporters to the John Birch Society and blamed Republican losses for high inflation and crime as he urged the party to dump Trump. Counting off the losses of Trump-backed candidates in several key midterm races, while omitting victories such as that of Sen.-elect J.D. Vance (R-OH), Christie said the GOP had to free itself from one-man rule to win again. Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was more subtle,

Musk added, “Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” Latin for “the voice of the people is the voice of God.” Trump responded to the poll on his TruthSocial platform on Saturday. He messaged a screenshot of the Twitter poll showing that 52% of respondents wanted him back on Twitter with the comment, “Vote now with positivity, but don’t worry, we aren’t going anywhere. Conservative Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito on Saturday strenuously denied any involvement in leaking the outcome of a 2014 ruling in a lengthy statement issued in response to a New York Times report. The Times story said that former anti-abortion campaigner Rev. Rob Schenck found out about the outcome of the Burwell v. Hobby Lobby ruling before the decision was issued in June 2014. The 5-4 ruling in a case closely watched by conservatives allowed privately-held companies to object on religious grounds to a provision of the Obamacare law that requires employers to provide health insurance that includes contraception coverage.

The attack on Paul Pelosi, outgoing Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s husband, has largely receded into the background of the news cycle. Weeks before the 2022 mid-terms, though, it burst into the national consciousness and was quickly presented as another marker of just how dangerous “right-wing extremism” is. It didn’t matter that the attacker was a nudist protester who lived in a leftwing commune adorned with Black Lives Matter and LGBT effects. The fact that he had allegedly dabbled in some alt-right materials online was enough to hang him on Republicans and Republicans alone. Of course, the truth is often more boring
