Judge Sentences Parkland School Shooter
to Life in Prison after Tearful Testimonies

Original Article

The Parkland school shooter was sentenced to life in prison without parole Wednesday after he perpetrated the 2018 massacre that left 14 students and three teachers dead and another 17 innocent individuals wounded. Nikolas Cruz received 17 life sentences for the murder of each of his victims at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. The killer stormed the campus four years ago and opened fire with an AR-15 rifle. He abandoned his gun at the scene and slipped out with evacuating students, authorities confirmed later, before police apprehended him. Broward County Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer announced a punishment of life behind bars, rather than the death penalty

And they wonder why this keeps happening. The death penalty could never be more deserved. But they want to ban guns instead of giving appropriate punishment to perpetrators.

DeSantis had a press conference about this a week or so ago. One juror did not vote for the death penalty so the judge had no choice but to sentence him to prison. Hopefully he’ll never be eligible for parole.

Florida's law that the jury must be unanimous for the death penalty needs to be changed. I was on a jury that gave a life sentence because of one juror who "couldn't believe anyone would purposely strangle his wife/mother of baby" and place her on a railroad track to try to make it look accidental. Years later the villain tried to get the sentence changed and be let out, but the judge said no. That was at least a little something toward "...and justiice for all."

Florida does not allow a judge to change a jury verdict. One juror voted for life and Florida requires a unanimous jury. That is the law!

After a few months, he will have two choices. Spend the rest of his life in solitary confinement so the other inmates cannot get to him, or face the daily hell of the abuse the prison population heaps on those who hurt children. He will pray for death, or perhaps take matters into his own hands.

Post: Democrats fear midterm drubbing
(but Biden is preparing to spin the loss)

These stories keep coming fast and thick this week. Here’s one published this evening by the Washington Post full of Democrats expressing their nervous concern about the midterms. A democratic strategist quoted in this story even uses the M-word: Malaise. Welcome back, Carter! As Republicans have focused on inflation and crime to go on offense in Democratic territory over the past month — competing in traditionally blue districts in California, Oregon, New York, Illinois and elsewhere — there’s a growing sense among Democrats that there’s little they can do at this point to combat the combined forces of history and economics.

As we reported, Joe Biden gave a primetime speech last night to the nation. It was his last chance to convince people of what he or the Democrats had done to earn anyone’s vote before the midterm. It was his chance to talk about how he was going to bring down inflation and crime, the two top concerns of the American people. Instead, Biden used the moment to try to tell people that they should vote for Democrats because of the “threat to democracy” – that “democracy was on the ballot.” So if you thought the top issues wed inflation or crime, sorry, as Hillary Clinton says

Twitter has notified employees that it will be “reducing our global workforce” on Friday, November 4th, according to an unsigned internal memo seen by The Verge. The confirmation comes a week after Elon Musk became Twitter’s new owner and quickly started changing how the company operates and its product roadmap. Since then, speculation about the timing and scope of the expected layoffs has run rampant inside Twitter. Employees will receive an email by 9AM PST on November 4th confirming whether they have been laid off or not, according to the internal memo, which also states that employee badge access to Twitter’s offices will be shut off “temporarily.”

President Joe Biden and actor Jason Bateman debated the best way to encourage Americans to vote in the upcoming midterm elections. On the Wednesday edition of the SmartLess podcast, Biden sat down with hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett to discuss his career and current state of the country. During the conversation, Bateman proposed a unique idea to encourage more Americans to head to the voting polls next Tuesday. “With the midterms on our doorstep. Okay. Two thirds of the seats that are up for grabs and the midterms are trending to be won by admitted election deniers. And then that means that elections and consequently democracy

Senate Republicans are in their best position in months to net the one seat they need to flip control of the chamber next year — on the eve of the midterms, no less. Claiming even that one needed seat looked like a Herculean task this summer as GOP candidates, several of them blessed by Donald Trump, struggled in must-win races across the map. Those struggles now mostly behind them, Republicans finally feel optimistic thanks to a late-game spending surge and a deteriorating national environment for Democrats. The biggest boost for the GOP is in Pennsylvania, where Democrats’ monthslong lead has nearly evaporated: Mehmet Oz now has at least

Tel Aviv - Bibi is back. Thursday, with nearly all the votes counted, Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid conceded defeat to former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “The State of Israel comes before any political consideration,” said Lapid, who has served as interim prime minister for four months. “I wish Netanyahu success, for the sake of the people of Israel and the State of Israel.” Now the man who has dominated Israeli politics for more than a decade looks certain to make a dramatic return to power with the help of far-right parties that surged into the mainstream after the country’s latest election.

During his last address before the balance of power would be decided in Washington D.C., Biden pleaded with Americans to vote against Republicans, accusing them of being election deniers and MAGA extremists who have encouraged political violence, promoted former President Donald Trump’s "Big Lie" about the 2020 election and engaged in voter intimidation. Rather than focusing the on main issues voters are most concerned about, namely, rampant inflation and other economic woes, Biden’s speech pointed the finger at his political opponents.
