Florida cops arrested a group of looters in a devastated section of Fort Myers Thursday, according to a local reporter. Reporter Gage Goulding of NBC 2 tweeted out a video of five young suspects seated in handcuffs in the stricken city’s beach area. “Sheriff’s deputies told me Thursday afternoon these people were arrested for looting on Fort Myers Beach,” Goulding tweeted. Local officials warned of the potential for looting after Hurricane Ian tore through the area and left countless buildings battered and exposed. Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno issued a stiff warning to would-be thieves this week as the Category 4 storm made landfall in his jurisdiction.

Former President Jimmy Carter turned 98 on Saturday and celebrated in Plains, Georgia — where he was born in 1924, while Calvin Coolidge was in office.
Carter, who has lived longer than any other president in US history, marked the occasion with his family, including wife Rosalynn, 95. He attended a parade in Plains and watched from a wheelchair.

Like Pavlov’s dogs, when liberals saw a hurricane heading towards Florida, their immediate reaction was, slobber slobber drool drool. “Man made climate change caused this hurricane!” A few weeks ago, I wrote about the Weather’s Channel’s report that August had no hurricanes at all. Unusual, but not unknown. That fact produced no rush to deny MMCC (“man-made climate change”). The lack of hurricanes doesn’t disprove MMCC, one big hurricane, though, does prove it. At least you can wash out the stink with tomato juice, no amount of scrubbing will rid you of the stench that comes with an activist progressive Democrat. Just look at Hollywood – it is marinated in reek of left-wing politics so thoroughly that no matter what evidence points to the contrary, it always reverts back to über-leftist “message movies” no one wants to see.

Jonathan Capehart, a Washington Post columnist and MSNBC host, is arguing that Democrats need to retake the high ground on patriotism. It really bugs him that people associate patriotism with Republicans, while it is the Democrats who are the real patriots.
Yeah right. I have no idea why anybody would think that Democrat leaders and commentators aren’t patriotic. Maybe because of statements like this: Capehart’s argument is not uncommon, of course. Democrats have been frustrated by the fact that Republicans have been more successful with patriotic messaging than they since at least the 60’s. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) needed Manchin’s vote in the 50-50 Senate to enact his latest spending extravaganza, the Inflation Reduction Act, which was primarily a massive climate and “green” energy subsidy arrangement. It gives Schumer allies some $370 billion in wind, solar, battery and other funding, tax credits and subsidies. In exchange, Schumer would offer a path for Manchin’s reform bill.
