On Friday’s broadcast of ABC’s “GMA3,” Rep. Bill Keating (D-MA) argued that cities in the northeast like Martha’s Vineyard “have done their part” to deal with the border crisis. Co-host Whit Johnson asked, “Of course, you’ve heard the criticism from Gov. DeSantis and others who say that the Biden administration isn’t doing enough to deal with the border crisis, and that other cities in the northeast like Martha’s Vineyard and elsewhere need to step up and do their part. What’s your response to that?” Keating responded, “Well, they certainly have done their part. But the issue is this, we have a broken immigration system. I was just in D.C.

Jean Michel thought his neighbourhood in the north of Port-au-Prince, far from the capital’s infamous slums, would shield his family from the violence engulfing the Haitian capital. But in May young men started coming into town on motorcycles, armed with assault rifles. By June, they were seizing control of the area. And in July the bandits had become the de facto authority, snatching up children to join their ranks and raping any women who took their fancy. “They take what they want now,” said the construction worker, who fled his home with his wife and two boys once the gangs took over. “They have no fear and

A tourist from Denmark was shot in the back after refusing to turn his property over to a gun-wielding robber on Manhattan’s Upper West side Sunday morning, cops said. The robber approached the 31-year-old at West 103rd Street and West End Avenue around 3:30 a.m. and demanded that he turn over his cell phone. The victim, who was on his way home from a party, refused to comply and attempted to walk away. “He just kept walking and the guy shot him,” a police source said. The tourist, who was born in Argentina and is a resident of Denmark, suffered a gunshot wound to the back,

American military leaders may have violated federal law in apparent rapid-fire denials of religious exemptions to the Defense Department’s COVID-19 vaccination mandate, a national religious civil liberties law firm said late Friday. Memos obtained by Liberty Counsel written by acting DOD Inspector General Sean O’Donnell said the official warned Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin of “deliberate violation[s] of federal law” within the agency over the way denial requests were processed and turndowns were issued, the group said.(Snip)Assuming a 10-hour work day with no breaks or attention to other matters, the average review period was about 12 minutes for each package. Such a review period seems insufficient

A judge in Missouri is allowing a settlement involving several unhappy 'Rita' drinkers and Anheuser-Busch, the company behind Budweiser, to go forward. The disgruntled customers say that the were deceived into buying the company's margarita themed drinks by believing that they contained tequila. The drinks manufacturer opted to settle with the customers. That means anyone can apply to be compensated for the deception without proof of purchase. The funds range from from $9.75 to $21.75 per household. All you have to do is fill out this form. They also said that they were led to 'falsely believe that the Margarita Products contained tequila and the Wine Products contained wine.'

The percentage of Americans who are refusing to get a vaccine for the Chinese coronavirus is remaining consistent, as nearly three in ten have yet to receive a single jab for the virus, a poll from The Economist/YouGov found. The survey found that 28 percent have not received any coronavirus jab from any manufacturer, compared to 72 percent who said they have. What is more, 58 percent indicated that they are at least triple vaccinated. However, it appears that those who are unvaccinated will remain so, as 66 percent said they do to plan on getting any shots, followed by 16 percent who said they “might” and nine percent

Albany—New York is making it easier for public servants to get relief from student loans. Gov. Hochul signed a bill into law Thursday that expands student debt relief to include more teachers and school faculty and will simplify eligibility rules for a soon-to-expire federal loan forgiveness program.“When you think about people crushed under the weight of student debt, you know, student debt doesn’t just defer your dreams,” the governor said during a signing ceremony at Borough of Manhattan Community College.(Snip)“We’ve removed bureaucratic barriers, making it easier for those who selflessly chose careers in public service to apply for relief before the limited PSLF Waiver

The city Department of Education has axed another 850 teachers and classroom aides—bringing the total to nearly 2,000 school employees fired for failure to comply with a vaccine mandate increasingly struck down in court. About 1,300 DOE employees who took a year’s unpaid leave—with benefits—agreed to show proof of COVID vaccination by Sept. 5 or be “deemed to have voluntarily resigned.” Of those staffers, 450 got a shot by the deadline and “are returning to their prior schools or work locations,” DOE officials told The Post. They include some 225 teachers and 135 paraprofessionals. The 850 let go makes roughly 1,950 DOE staffers terminated since the vaccine mandate

Rep. Henry Cuellar said Saturday he disagreed with Vice President Kamala Harris‘s assessment that the southern border is secure, citing his border district’s experience with the influx of migrants into the United States. The Texas Democrat cited the thousands of people that come across the border per day, as well as more than four million people reported as crossing the border in the past two years. “The border is not secure, with all due respect to the VP,” Mr. Cuellar told CNN. “We get thousands of people along the border, at least 6 to 8 thousand people a day.” The congressman added: “You’re talking about almost 4 plus, maybe 4.4

Senator Ted Cruz branded Joe Biden 'the biggest human trafficker on the face of the planet' as the war over GOP governors moving illegal immigrants to liberal cities and areas escalates. During an appearance on Fox’s Hannity Friday night, the GOP lawmaker said: 'The Democrats did not think it was a humanitarian crisis when we pulled over 50 bodies and body bags out of a truck in Texas of illegal immigrants who died because the smugglers let them die of heat exposure. ‘And yet suddenly, 50 illegal immigrants show up in lily white Martha's Vineyard, where rich liberals and billionaires sip Chardonnay. And it is World War III.'

Party-loving Mayor Eric Adams—who said this week that the city’s shelters are near a “breaking point” as they deal with incoming migrants—was spotted Thursday night at the highly exclusive, members-only jazz club at the newly opened Aman NY. We’re assuming he found few, if any, migrants there. “He was sitting in the center of the room with a group of people,” says a spy, who notes that founding members splashed out $100,000 to join the club. We’re told one of these people was his controversial pal, convicted money launderer Zhan “Johnny” Petrosyants. “Guess tonight there’s no migrant issue if he’s sitting at the fanciest new club,”

New Orleans overtook St. Louis as the US murder capital in the first half of this year, as the city struggles with its lowest police staffing level in modern history amid a crisis of officer morale.
In the first six months of 2022, New Orleans recorded 41 murders per 100,000 population, a higher homicide rate than any other US city, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of data from the Major Cities Chiefs Association. By comparison, the first-half murder rate per 100,000 was 11.5 in Chicago, 4.8 in Los Angeles and 2.4 in New York City. In New Orleans, the homicide rate has soared 141 percent compared with
Comments:
The mayor got less than 5 years in prison and supposedly will pay back just 13% of what he stole. Federal relief programs are designed to enable wholesale fraud. The next time around they should allocate 10 or 15 times the amount of money, so at least some fraction will help the people who were supposed to receive the aid.
