Albany—New York is making it easier for public servants to get relief from student loans. Gov. Hochul signed a bill into law Thursday that expands student debt relief to include more teachers and school faculty and will simplify eligibility rules for a soon-to-expire federal loan forgiveness program.“When you think about people crushed under the weight of student debt, you know, student debt doesn’t just defer your dreams,” the governor said during a signing ceremony at Borough of Manhattan Community College.(Snip)“We’ve removed bureaucratic barriers, making it easier for those who selflessly chose careers in public service to apply for relief before the limited PSLF Waiver

Comments:

For Party Members, everything. For others, less than nothing because they're the ones stuck with the bills.

The UNelected NY governor will send taxpayer moneys to favored union members to try to buy votes … just like Demento-the-Magnificent wants to do nationwide. These clowns care little about the people who actually PAID per their loan agreements, often under trying circumstances. The word you’re looking for to describe these klepto-politicians is UNSCRUPULOUS, and it applies to almost all Democrats (like “heels up”).

A selfless career in the civil service. Been around government many, many years and I never met a "selfless" civil servant. It's a job, for some a career. For way too many it's a secure place to burrow in and game the system. And, please, don't start with teachers, police, and firefighters. Ask their unions why they exist and sit in on contract negotiations...you'll quickly learn how "selfless" they are, especially as retirement comes over the horizon.

Detroit—The National Transportation Safety Board is recommending that all new vehicles in the U.S. be equipped with blood alcohol monitoring systems that can stop an intoxicated person from driving. The recommendation, if enacted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, could reduce the number of alcohol-related crashes, one of the biggest causes of highway deaths in the U.S.(Snip)The recommendation also calls for systems to monitor a driver’s behavior, making sure they’re alert. She said many cars now have cameras pointed at the driver, which have the potential to limit impaired driving. But Homendy says she also understands that perfecting the alcohol tests will take time.

The US Air Force will unveil its next-generation stealth bomber, the B-21 Raider, during the first week of December, lifting the tight cloak of secrecy that has surrounded the aircraft's development. Northrop Grumman and the Air Force confirmed the timeline for unveiling the B-21 on Tuesday, saying that it will offer an 'exclusive view' of the aircraft at the company's facility in Palmdale, California. The bomber, which will be nuclear-capable, will cost about $639 million per plane, and the Pentagon plans to buy at least 100 of them to complement and eventually replace the aging B-2 Spirit. A health care advocacy group has sued Pfizer in federal court, alleging the pharmaceutical giant violated the Civil Rights Act by excluding Whites and Asians from a racial equity fellowship. Do No Harm filed the lawsuit Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. It claims the New York-based company’s Breakthrough Fellowship Program defies the law’s color-blind definition of racial discrimination under Title VI because it accepts reimbursements from federal healthcare programs. The complaint cites Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, which extended the race neutrality requirement of the 1964 law to private entities that accept federal funds

It's the first time the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force has recommended anxiety screening in primary care for adults without symptoms. The proposal is open for public comment until Oct. 17, but the group usually affirms its draft guidance. The recommendations are based on a review that began before the Covid-19 pandemic, evaluating studies showing potential benefits and risks from screening. Given reports of a surge in mental health problems linked with pandemic isolation and stress, the guidance is "very timely," said Lori Pbert, a task force member and co-author.
