New Orleans overtook St. Louis as the US murder capital in the first half of this year, as the city struggles with its lowest police staffing level in modern history amid a crisis of officer morale.
In the first six months of 2022, New Orleans recorded 41 murders per 100,000 population, a higher homicide rate than any other US city, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of data from the Major Cities Chiefs Association. By comparison, the first-half murder rate per 100,000 was 11.5 in Chicago, 4.8 in Los Angeles and 2.4 in New York City. In New Orleans, the homicide rate has soared 141 percent compared with

Note that the New Orleans police were put under Federal micro-management during the Obama years. They are handcuffed and understaffed.

NOLA is one of the worst places I’ve ever been. I’ll never go back there. I10 goes through Baton Rouge. I make sure i have enough fuel so i never have to stop there either. Both places are awful.

I agree with others who have vowed to never return to such a horrible place as New Orleans. I attended a professional convention there some years ago and found the hotel staff not exactly surly but certainly unwelcoming. The police are reputed to be highly corrupt and some colleagues who went out to some of the local watering holes discovered to their dismay that the bars seemed to have an arrangement whereby instead of simply including the cost of the mug in the price of the first drink as a souvenir, visitors were casually admonished not to remove the mugs from the property. Those who did found the police waiting outside, ready to pounce and several convention visitors ended up getting seriously roughed up by the constabulary. Post convention surveys by our organization must have been quite negative such that we never returned to 'Nawlins' again.

My son spent his honeymoon there 20 years ago. They did one of the”ghost tours” through the cemeteries and mausoleums. One cemetery was off limits because it was next to, shall we say, a neighborhood that you would need Seal Team 6 to keep you from getting murdered. They never went back. We did our honeymoon In Jamaica 50 years ago. Same thing. I will never go back. Anybody see a common thread here?

My husband and I used to love going to NO. It was so much fun.
But then they went uber-woke and wasted all that money tearing down statues that weren't hurting anybody. I guess that was supposed to "solve" all of their problems. It didn't work, and made regular visitors like us (and all our tourist dollars) decide to go elsewhere.

What did the left think would happen after Obama declared war on those stupid police, and the non-stop defund the police movement?

And yet the voter's will pull the DEM lever again. If you do then stop bothering us with the facts. You obviously WANT to be murdered and carjacked and walk in urine and poop and used needles.

Re #3, NOT the world. The worst places in the USA are only a fraction compared to the worst places in the world. At 41 per 100K, NOLA ranks around 21st or so in the world. San Juan, PR is 20th at 42/100K.
#1 -- Tijuana has highest in the world homicide rate at 138/100K per year.
#2 -- Acapulco, Mexico at 111/100K.
#3 -- Caracas, Venzuela at 100/100K.
#4 -- Ciudad Victoria, Mexico 86/100k
#5 -- Ciudada Juarez, Mexico 86/100K.
#6 -- Irapuato, Mexico 81/100K.
#7 -- Ciudad Guayana, Mexico 79/100K.
#8 -- Natal, Brazil 75/100K.
#9 -- Fortaleza, Brazil 69/100K.
#10 -- Ciudada Bolivar, Venezuela 69/100K.
Note that #1 and six of the top 7 are in Mexico....and yet Traitor Joe keeps the border open so that more and more murderers can freely move into our country.

There is one segment of the population that has totally lost their minds. No one will say it or do anything about it. The trouble with ignoring this rancid violence is that it will spread. It is like a cancer and it will consume the host if intervention is not sought. Law and order should be a talking point in any Republican’s election campaign strategy. It would resonate with those of us who are appalled by this behavior and want to oivem8n safe communities.

Never fear, St. Louis will work really hard to regain their top spot. I live about an hour west of St. Louis. In the last week or two, I don't remember the exact date, a small car was stolen in St. Louis, driven to a town about 10 miles east of me, used to drive through the doors of a gun store. Ten hoodie wearing people piled into the store and cleaned it out in less than 3 minutes. Two other stores carrying guns were also robbed at around the same time. We don't have the Metro to carry them our way, but Highway 70 works just as well. DH and I visited New Orleans a few times in the 80's and 90's and always enjoyed it. Poster 8 was talking about St. Louis Cemetery #1 which was near apartments. DH and I visited there but we were warned to be very careful. I remember seeing the crypt Marie Leveau was supposedly buried in. Fresh food and throw beads in front of it, crosses drawn on the concrete with brown crayon. It is a shame that democrat run cities have become 'no go' zones because you could lose your life there.

Meet Me in St. Louis....... I don't think so. Sad that America's great cities have been trashed and gutted.

They tore down all of the Confederate monuments, they installed a permanent bLACK leadership, and things are worse than ever. Who could have predicted this, and more important, what will the city do for revenue when the earners flee and the tourists are scared away?
