Denver is set to provide 140 homeless people with $12,000 in cash with no strings attached to help get them out of destitution, and a last ditch effort to combat soaring crime rates in the Mile-High City.
The city has allocated $2million from the American Rescue Plan Act to fund the program, which will be run by the Denver Basic Income Project.
The total program, which will cost around $9million, is seeking to help around 820 people, but the $2million provided by the city will fund around 140 people.
The rest of the money will be raised through charitable foundations, including the Colorado Health Foundation and the Denver Foundation,

Oh, to be a liquor store owner in Denver! On the other hand, the hospitals better gear up for a huge jump in overdose cases.

So... American Citizens are given nothing, and if they owe $12K in taxes they will be arrested, cuffed, jailed, tried, fined and sentenced. Foreign citizens that violate our laws and sovereignty get $12K from the tax dollars taken from American citizens. Did I get that right? Because it sounds absurd. Do any other country on the planet, do that? Because I want to go get my $12K.

point is... No requirement to be a citizen to get the cash. So who do you think gets it first?

Let’s see how many of the 140 die from drug overdose or alcoholism or get killed by someone robbing them. This is not going to turn out well. The only ones who will benefit are drug dealers liquor stores and lottery ticket sales. $12,000? Hahaha!!! How about giving it to disabled veterans.

Seriously, what then is the criteria to get this free money? They have to navigate the 'special' groups quite meticulously to get the right mix of alphabet status. LOL - let the lawsuits begin!

It is a bad idea to give a poor person money. They only know how to be poor. A normal person would use it for education or invest it in tools or something that can make more money. A poor person will always blow it on booze, delivered pizzas, hotel rooms, restaurants, or some other waste that has no return. Look at the poor people who have won the lottery. Most are back to being poor pretty quickly, and worse off.

So their answer to the cost of ongoing homelessness is give them enough hard cash in one shot to kill themselves with drugs.
This is the most cynical budget saving act ever in human history.

Are there any strings attached like if you OD, there will be no help, you still can't live on the street or we will fly you to Martha's Vineyard?

It's too late. The Peoples' Republic of Denver is becoming the new Detroit. Boy am I glad wife and I moved out of there. The leftists ruin what was once a fine city to live in. Such is socialism - communism.

the drug dealers and package store owners will like a substantial portion of this endowment by the city of Denver officials - don't they know this is how that money will be disbursed? - haven't the heads of the police department told them this is a stupendously stupid idea?

Homeless are not stupid. They'll invest most of their money in a lottery ticket. And if they don't win, they'll start robbing their neighborhood with the guns they bought.

Or… you could give them a job doing something (ostensibly) useful. When they complete that job, pay them minimum wage. Keep doing that until you’ve given them $12,000 and re-evaluate the situation. It’s a radical idea, I know, but it has been known to actually work.

Crazy thing is IMO these people are not Colorado citizens. They went there for the dope, when Colorado became big in the marijuana business. Now Denver thinks if they give them money they will leave. They won't . They will stay there for the dope.

$12,000? Why not $24,000? That would guarantee success. The homeless would disappear. Poverty would end. The Millennial Kingdom would be ushered in.

#6–I’d suggest giving the cash to the military troops who have been hit so hard by inflation that the Sergeant Major of the US Army has suggested that they apply for food stamps (SNAP). Disgusting situation.
