Down With Electric Vehicles!

Posted on September 11, 2022 by John Hinderaker in Electric vehicles, Energy Policy, Environment Down With Electric Vehicles! Are people finally starting to catch on to the fact that electric vehicles are a terrible idea? I hope so. Bjorn Lomborg makes the case in accessible form in the Wall Street Journal. To begin with, EVs don’t even save much on CO2 emissions: Over its lifetime, an electric car does emit less CO2 than a gasoline car, but the difference can range considerably depending on how the electricity is generated. Making batteries for electric cars also requires a massive amount of energy, mostly from burning coal in China.

Comments:

No sentient being (sorry Joe) could believe that we can give up oil and gas as the energy source for the world economy. Unless they have nefarious ends.

The market is the place for competing technologies to sort out which is better. VHS or Beta? The market is continually distorted by government subsidies and other favors granted by elected officials. I don't care what drives your car. If you want diesel, gasoline, LPG, steam, hybrid or EV...that's your choice with your money. And you buy the consequences and expense. The key is to STOP government from making that decision for you or anyone else by tilting the field in favor of one or another over any.

It's a rather simple exercise to prove that in the vast majority of cases, EV's cause the release of more CO2, not slightly less. France, yeah... 60% of its electrical generation is nuclear. In the USA, it's not even close. It's not the dumpster fire of excessive CO2 produces in making and then burning ethanol compared to petroleum, but its still far worse than just burning gas to get to work.

Point 0 before you even enter into this argument is that CO2 is primarily a nutrient. NOT a pollutant or a toxin. If you don’t understand that the rest is useless.

All this information has been known for a while now. It proves the absurdity of thinking that we could all use EVs and solar and wind power and nothing else. Frankly, if the earth is doomed if we don't do this, per Brandon, it is doomed. We CANNOT do this. It is IMPOSSIBLE. Further, the ridiculously small impact on global temperatures, .0002 degree C, per the "standard United Nations Climate Panel model" makes "success" pointless. Finally, even making the attempt to move exclusively to EVs & solar & wind is going to destroy the global economy and kill people. The progressives have us working for IMPOSSIBLE goals, to NO PURPOSE, and significantly DAMAGING all humanity in the attempt. Sounds like a definition of insanity.

The root of his argument is fallacious. He accepts the idea that reducing CO2 output by humans is a necessary or desireable goal. IT IS NOT. There is not the slightest proof that the miniscule contribution to the increasing atmospheric concentration of CO2 by humans has the slightest negative impact on anything. In fact, we have lots of SOLID scientific proof that more CO2 in the atmosphere is very good for green plant growth, which is the foundation of all life on our planet. The BASIS for the discussion is false. Whether EV's do or do not increase or decrease CO2 is meaningless. They are expensive, crappy devices that do the job that is needed BADLY for a lot more money. And CO2 is irrelevant, should be dismissed immediately as a point to be discussed and have relevance.

The truth is coming out about the ridiculously stupid push for unaffordable electric cars. Gavin Newsom certainly helped when their new ‘law’ mandating electric cars was immediately followed by the State telling people that they didn’t have enough electricity to charge them.

#6 is spot on. 540 million years ago was a period (the Cambrian Period) that saw the greatest explosion of life in Earth's history. The oceans did NOT boil away and atmospheric CO2 was at 7000 PPM, SEVENTEEN TIMES WHAT IT IS NOW!

I have long thought that somebody ( Big Al ) heard of or was taught the THEORY that - Venus has a dense cloud cover and surface temperatures exceeding 800 degrees because it suffered from 'runaway' CO2. This was caused by 'pick your favorite uncontrollable villain - proximity to the sun, over population by squirrels, whatever ) and horror of horrors, IT CAN HAPPEN HERE !! Some group of zealots then ran with it and here we are today ! Ask someone 'what is the percentage of CO2 in our atmosphere ?' - take bets on getting shrugged shoulders, puzzled looks, blank stares etc. Hint - it's a FRACTION of 1% !!! This is ALL PROPAGANDA that survives because of flawed models / researchers taken as gospel, a basically scientifically illiterate population and a hostile media !!

Joe Biden’s ‘Build Back Better’ is not working as planned, or is it? Gas prices are at record highs, the economy is in recession, parents are having difficulty finding a baby formula, and the cost of everything is way up. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), there are currently no nationwide food shortages in the country. “There are currently no nationwide shortages of food, although in some cases the inventory of certain foods at your grocery store might be temporarily low before stores can restock,” the agency said on their website. “Food production and manufacturing are widely dispersed throughout the U.S. and there are currently no wide-spread

People who heat their homes above a certain temperature in Switzerland during the Winter face fines and potentially up to three years in prison if energy rationing measures are put in place. Under proposed legislation in the home of the World Economic Forum (WEF), Swiss lawmakers are preparing to set legal limits on the use of heating during the winter should the country face energy shortages. Under the plans, gas-heated buildings would be capped at 19C (66.2F) and water heating up to 60C (140F). Saunas and swimming pools would also be forced by government diktat to remain cold.

Major concerns and sporting events are continuing to be held across California despite the ongoing energy crisis, with fans flocking to Oracle Park in San Francisco Wednesday for a rock concert, and the L.A. Rams due to open the NFL season at home Thursday. As Breitbart News has reported, California is entering its eighth consecutive day of “Flex Alerts,” during which consumers are asked to save electricity in the afternoon and evening hours. An energy emergency is possible on Thursday, including possible blackouts. But the same apparently does not apply to large stadium events,

Yes, BYU punished an innocent man before the facts were known. And it was a lie. All of it. And we all knew it was a lie the moment it was reported. Do you periodically enjoy an adult beverage? I’m talking, of course, about a milkshake — the kind with whipped cream on top. New York stores are now checking identification per a state law aimed to reduce drug deaths. The measure bans the sale of whipped cream canisters to anyone under 21. From the Albany Times Union: The chargers that propel whipped cream through a canister nozzle are filled with nitrous oxide gas, which can be inhaled to produce a high. The inhalant has long been a popular recreational drug — called “whippets” — among teenagers due to the availability of whipped cream canisters at grocery and convenience stores.

This week, President Joe Biden—in search of a new label to pin on his political opponents after the failure of his “ultra-MAGA” branding, which prompted peals of laughter rather than shudders of horror—landed on a new slur with which to tar those who don’t support his agenda: they are, he said, semi-fascists. Speaking with a crowd of Democratic donors in Maryland, Biden reportedly said, “What we’re seeing now is either the beginning or the death knell of an extreme MAGA philosophy. It’s not just Trump, it’s the entire philosophy that underpins the—I’m going to say something—it’s semi-fascism.” Now, Democratic politicians painting half of Americans as beneath contempt is old hat.

It's only a day since we reported on California’s intention to outlaw sales of new combustion-engined vehicles from 2035, and already the ripples are being felt across the nation. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) that governs motor vehicle emissions for the state adopted new rules that will require 35% of the new cars sold in the state are electric or plug-in hybrids by 2026, with that percentage rising to 68% by 2030 and 100% by 2035. California has a waiver from the federal government to set its own air quality rules, and other states are allowed to opt into its regulations, which are typically more stringent than the national standards.
