Whipped Cream Canisters in New York

Original Article

Do you periodically enjoy an adult beverage? I’m talking, of course, about a milkshake — the kind with whipped cream on top. New York stores are now checking identification per a state law aimed to reduce drug deaths. The measure bans the sale of whipped cream canisters to anyone under 21. From the Albany Times Union: The chargers that propel whipped cream through a canister nozzle are filled with nitrous oxide gas, which can be inhaled to produce a high. The inhalant has long been a popular recreational drug — called “whippets” — among teenagers due to the availability of whipped cream canisters at grocery and convenience stores.

Comments:

Safely back from Afghanistan? No whipped cream for you! Should just have made 'Whipped Cream Free Zones' At least you could have your strawberries somewhere else. I can't find the words for this insanity.

Miracle Whip, the new fentanyl! Really grabs you by the boo-boo. What are they going to outlaw next? Paint? Remember the traveling dentist scene in 1976's The Pink Panther Strikes Again? Reportedly, Blake Edwards's crew trying to film the scene kept laughing and destroying good takes, of which many were needed. Peter Sellers and Herbert Lom were too funny to film that day. BTW, Nice reference, #1. Maybe a taste of honey would be safer than whipped cream.

Maybe 19-year-olds can get wisdom tooth surgery, instead? Have 'em out one at a time, and that could give them four nitrous oxide parties? Are there some sort of restrictions on TYPING "nitrous"? Our comment-entry spell checker flags that word as misspelled, whether I capitalize it or not.

This week, President Joe Biden—in search of a new label to pin on his political opponents after the failure of his “ultra-MAGA” branding, which prompted peals of laughter rather than shudders of horror—landed on a new slur with which to tar those who don’t support his agenda: they are, he said, semi-fascists. Speaking with a crowd of Democratic donors in Maryland, Biden reportedly said, “What we’re seeing now is either the beginning or the death knell of an extreme MAGA philosophy. It’s not just Trump, it’s the entire philosophy that underpins the—I’m going to say something—it’s semi-fascism.” Now, Democratic politicians painting half of Americans as beneath contempt is old hat.

It's only a day since we reported on California’s intention to outlaw sales of new combustion-engined vehicles from 2035, and already the ripples are being felt across the nation. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) that governs motor vehicle emissions for the state adopted new rules that will require 35% of the new cars sold in the state are electric or plug-in hybrids by 2026, with that percentage rising to 68% by 2030 and 100% by 2035. California has a waiver from the federal government to set its own air quality rules, and other states are allowed to opt into its regulations, which are typically more stringent than the national standards.

President Joe Biden is set to announce student loan forgiveness of $10,000 — and perhaps more — for lower-income debtors on Wednesday, in a move that is unconstitutional, unfair, and dangerous for the stability of our economy and our democracy. There is no doubt that some borrowers would benefit from student loan relief — especially young people, low earners, borrowers in the black community. It would help them avoid default, and perhaps allow some to enter the housing market. Some of these debtors can truly be seen as victims of a system that urges young people to attend college when other paths might be better suited to their talents

But the president’s speech in Philadelphia last week marked a new low for America and a new low for a party that I once idolized. To me, the Democratic Party was the party of hope, tolerance, and opportunity. Indeed, those themes echoed through Bill Clinton’s speeches in 1992. Clinton’s presidency was the high-water mark of the post-war Democratic Party. He blended JFK’s idealism with Reagan’s folksiness. He embodied America’s middle class, the greatest political force

Joe Biden has made his obsession with President Trump known, most recently through his hellishly lit Mussolini-meltdown speech at Independence Hall in Philadelphia last week, manically painting Trump and all his voters as "threats to the republic." He may be doddering and insentient, but he still burns bright against his potential opponent in the 2024 presidential race, which even Democrats don't want him to get involved with. On Trump, Biden's as obsessed with Trump as Stalin was with Trotsky.
