The United States is facing a looming crisis of utility shutoffs, with a record number of households falling behind on their power bills, industry observers and experts say. About 20 million US households, or one out of six homes, are behind on their utility bills, the most on record, according to the National Energy Assistance Directors Association (Neada). 'I expect a tsunami of shutoffs,' Jean Su, a senior attorney at the non-profit Center for Biological Diversity, which tracks the power industry, told Bloomberg this week. Electricity prices have soared due to rising costs for natural gas, which has skyrocketed following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in late February.

This is a preview of what's coming from the Green New Deal. The Biden Administration is not going to solve these energy problems.

I'm guessing most Americans don't realize that natural gas is soaring in cost. When the heat clicks on in about 6 weeks they will get a rude awakening - right before the Mid Terms.

Not to worry, Joe will forgive it. I'm concerned however, that 87,000 armed IRS agents may not be enough.

People are finally going to realize the enormous cost of “green energy”. We need fossil fuels during the transition to renewables. It will be years before we can stop utilizing coal and petroleum/natural gas.

If the price of natural gas is skyrocketing so much, why are the gas companies paying me little more than beer money for my wells? I should be making out like a bandit, and the taxes are costing more than I'm making.

Lunch Box Joe just agreed to pay off the electricity bills, but only for those college graduates making $125,000 a year.

#4, renewables will never be able to support a modern civilization. Now it could manage a feudal one, where the serfs aren't on the grid, and don't wear synthetic clothing, footwear or place any demand on modern medical care devices or medicines produced from hydrocarbons. But not a modern, growing civilization.
We need loads more modern molten salt reactors and hydrocarbon production. They aren't 'fossil fuels' and that's been known since the middle of the last century. But the propaganda organs of the commies just keep on cranking out the music.

The man in the big blue PG&E truck came out and cut the line to our house today! We are total solar/battery with a propane Kohler backup generator. We re-financed in October (closed at 2.78%) in order to afford the $72,000 investment. Six years ago we installed eight solar panels and were on the inter-tie system, paying $18 a month. During this project we had to disconnect for a month and had straight PG&E power, the bill was $218. One of the main reasons we went total solar was being at the end of the line and the last to be repaired after emergency outages. Last month I got a taste of current electric rates and realized they are just going to go stratospheric. We made our move at just the right time. I had thought we would never realize anything back from our investment. My God, could we get it back in ten years?

When the utility bill comes in the mail, write "Joe's got this" on it and send it back.

Not going to happen - Joe & Co. will require utilities to keep supplying power to the deadbeats. It is "for the children," you know. Like the rent moratorium, many will take advantage. The rest of us chumps will keep paying.

The article states the average cost per kW hr in the US is $0.17. It's 0.36 euro per kW hr where I live. Fortunately I live in a very sunny place and installed a PV system 4 years ago. I pay about 120 euros/yr now. Yes, even with the PV system (net metering I have to pay, nit no where near what others pay. I don't know how families will manager here - wages are very low.

The smart move here I guess would be for us to simply stop paying our utility bills, which by federal government policy have necessarily skyrocketed as part of crashing the economy, destroying the value of our assets (while also taxing us on the illusory increase in value caused by inflation), and ushering in the Great Reset. With near certainty Poopy Joe, on behalf of Transformative Barry, will stimulate these bills out of existence, because that's only fair. Expect a small handful of Republicans to tweet about how that might maybe kinda be unconstitutional.
