Camille Paglia's Second Wave

The internet was set abuzz with Camille Paglia’s name when two characters on HBO’s popular recent series The White Lotus appeared poolside reading a copy of her 1990 seminal tome Sexual Personae. It was only one of many recent examples of the dissident feminist writer and provocateur’s resurgence in popularity among millennials and older zoomers, long after her first wave of notoriety in the early ’90s.

"a pro-choice Democrat who thinks abortion is murder,..." So she together with many other pro choice people who concede the Science that abortion involves the murder of a human being, now rationalize and justify the murder by giving the unborn child the ludicrous status of a criminal "RAPIST":, i.e. another human being inside the mother against her will", which grants her the natural right to kill it in 'self defence". Don't worry that the woman is the MOTHER of child, who in the vast majority of cases co-operated in conceiving it inside her. and came into being inside her and therefore there was no PENETRATION. There is also TOTAL consent for the baby being place inside her, in the case of IVF conception. The entire world has a right to expect so much more from those who have pretensions to be its Intellectual Leaders

If you thought of babies as puppies no one would want to kill one.

Camille and her academic intellectual gobbledy-gunk. She thinks lofty, complicated thoughts but they’re wrong thoughts. But I’m no judge, my thoughts were always, “Will folks have enough to eat tomorrow?”

I attended the university where she teaches but it was long before she arrived there when it was still just a college with about a thousand students. I find it interesting that the students tried to cancel her, because when I attended (1971-75) I don’t remember a single discussion about politics taking place either in a classroom or among fellow students. The leftist indoctrination came later. I have read numerous articles about her over the years and I concur with #3’s assessment - intellectual gobbledy-gunk. Filled with oxymorons. Like many on the left, I think that her main concern is to come across as outrageous as possible. No one should take her seriously.

In the grips of monomania, psychotic people perseverate on their object of interest. They talk about their enthusiasm incessantly and believe, wrongly, that everyone else is similarly inclined. America’s establishment, left and right, and the media, are obsessed with Donald J. Trump. Trump’s tweets, his pretend press releases, his real ones, doesn’t matter. He occupies every neuron and inflames them. With each sweaty proclamation, the monomaniacs sound increasingly unhinged. Dick Cheney called Donald Trump the greatest threat to humanity and America and all that is good and decent. And also, he’s proud of his daughter because
Will Religious Freedom Concerns Doom the

The Senate has delayed a vote on its gay marriage bill, misnamed the “Respect for Marriage Act,” until after the August recess. It appeared that momentum was building to pass the bill. A significant number of Republicans, 47, had supported the House’s version of the bill, giving Senate Democrats confidence that they could round up 10 Senate Republicans to vote for their bill. But delaying the vote may give religious freedom advocates time to scuttle the legislation. Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, who was leaning toward voting for the bill, now questions it,

For all of the media’s hyperventilating about the GOP’s “culture war,” most Republicans show little to no interest in fighting it. In truth, the “culture war” is hopelessly one-sided, pitting tenacious Democrats against irresolute or decadent Republicans. Take Nancy Pelosi’s recent gay marriage bill. It passed in the House of Representatives not in spite of the GOP but in part because of it: 47 Republicans, including members of GOP leadership, joined the Democrats in supporting the bill. Imagine the cries of horror from the media and the Democratic base if 47 Democrats ever voted for a piece of GOP legislation on a crucial social issue. That’s inconceivable

The Federal Bureau of Investigation launched an inquiry into National Institutes of Health funding of bat research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology, the Epoch Times reports. The FBI involvement, “adds to the international scrutiny on the Wuhan facility, which houses one of China’s highest-level biosecurity labs that has been considered a possible source of the COVID-19 pandemic.” In an email obtained by Judicial Watch, an NIH investigation officer directs a message titled “Grant Questions—FBI inquiry” to FBI agent David Miller. Heavy redactions render the extent of the investigation unclear but the name of the attachment corresponds to the NIH grant for “Understanding the Risk of Bat Coronavirus Emergence.”

For followers of “Star Trek,” one of the most memorable antagonists is the Borg, a race of beings composed of organic and biomechanic body parts linked together in a hive mind called the “Collective.” In their quest to achieve perfection, the Borg travel through the galaxy extending their power and control by integrating the knowledge and technology of other alien species through a process called “assimilation,” whereby individuals are forcibly injected with nanoparticles that alter their cellular DNA and transform them into drones for the Collective. On July 6, in an act of vandalism for which the culprits are still at large, one of the four “Georgia Guidestones” was blown apart. The damage was so severe that the entire monument was rendered too unstable to leave standing. For safety reasons, state officials almost immediately demolished the rest of the monument. While the Georgia Guidestones are not as well known as, say, Stonehenge, among critics of globalism they had acquired a certain infamy because of the inscriptions on the stones. Carved into four massive blocks of granite, and rendered in eight languages, this is what was on the stones:

In the 1920s, when he was still an agnostic, C. S. Lewis noted in his diary his latest reading: “Began G. K. Chesterton’s Eugenics and Other Evils.” A controversial English Catholic writer, Chesterton published his book in 1922, when the popularity of eugenics was at flood tide. Respectable opinion on both sides of the Atlantic embraced the concept: a scientific approach to selective breeding to reduce, and eventually eliminate, the category of people considered mentally and morally deficient. From U.S. Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes to Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger, eugenics policies — including involuntary sterilization — were hailed as a “progressive” and “compassionate” solution to mounting social problems.

In 2020, according to exit polls, Joe Biden won the Catholic vote by five percentage points over Donald Trump. But Biden “has lost significant ground with Catholics since his election,” reports Susan Crabtree of RealClearPolitics. Citing “findings in the latest survey of Catholic voter mood by RealClear Opinion Research in partnership with Catholic-themed television network EWTN,” Crabtree writes that now “just 47% of Catholics approve of Biden’s job performance, while 53% disapprove.” Biden remains popular with Hispanic Catholics — “Biden’s approval rating among Latino Catholics stands at an impressive 59%,” writes Crabtree — but his support among white Catholics has sharply declined and stands at a mere 36 percent.

I had breakfast in Budapest this morning with an American academic on vacation with his family. We talked about the turmoil in the world; like me, he is a Christian. He has been working in the Baltic countries for the past few years, and said that those places are beginning to re-paganize. About the Christian churches in the West, he said that it feels to him like we are at the point of the downfall of the Kingdom of Judah, just before the Jews were taken to Babylon in captivity. He said that in those days, many false prophets appeared, telling the Jews what they wanted to hear:

Many people believe electric vehicles are higher quality than gas-powered vehicles and are emissions-free, which makes them much better for the environment. But two recent studies have shown that electric cars have more quality issues than gas-powered ones and are not better for the environment. J.D. Power has produced the annual U.S. Initial Quality Study for 36 years, which measures the quality of new vehicles based on feedback from owners. The most recent study, which included Tesla in its industry calculation for the first time, found that battery-electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles have more quality issues than gas-powered ones

With inflation raging and the shadow of recession looming, it’s difficult to envision a worse time to pass a tax-and-spend bill like the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Yet, that’s just what Senate Democrats did Sunday. It’s even harder to imagine that “moderate” Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.), both of whom voted for the bill, believe it will live up to its Orwellian name. If so, they are at odds with the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), hundreds of economists, millions of Americans, and even Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).

Even before he became president, the now-79-year-old Joe Biden faced serious and persistent questions about his mental health. Among average Americans, those questions have become a major issue, the latest I&I/TIPP Poll shows. The I&I/TIPP Poll, conducted online from Aug. 2-4 among 1,335 adults nationwide, shows that a 59% majority now say they are “very concerned” (36%) or “somewhat concerned” about Biden’s mental health. That compares with just 39% saying they are “not very concerned” (18%) or “not at all concerned” (21%). Only 2% of respondents said they were “not sure.” The poll has a margin of error of +/-2.8 percentage points.
