Rory McIlroy nearly had his dream win at St. Andrews, but he couldn’t hold off Cameron Smith. Smith, the 28-year-old Australian, won the 2022 British Open on Sunday for his first career major title. He finished 20-under for the tournament, shooting a final-round 8-under 64 to squeak by McIlroy and Westchester native Cameron Young. Five straight birdies from the 10th through 14th holes allowed Smith to jump McIlroy for the lead, and he never looked back. Right after Young eagled the 18th hole to get to 19-under, Smith birdied to win it. McIlroy finished at 17-under. Smith missed the cut at this year’s U.S. Open,

There was a 9 putt difference between Smith and McIlory who he beat by 2 strokes. And I'll bet there was 2-4 put difference for 2nd place, American Cam Young. Like #1 said it's all about putting. Terrific tournament St Andrew's, Scotland once again put on a terrific show.

Rory played very well but Smith was an absolute wizard. Nobody should be allowed to play that well, it makes the rest of us look like elephants playing marbles.

Life is good today, in the Lakerman household! We celebrate the predicted loss by Really Fragile Rory! Last night on this site, I predicted a McIlroy collapse, and that he would lose today. But today's pathetic performance by Rory was more of a wilting, sort of like a drooping wild Irish rose, picked too early. The TV commentators were so pro-Rory, it was sad. They said he played beautifully, today, but he did not. He lost, when he should have won. I applaud Cameron Smith, the winner, in all ways except for that mullet haircut. He needs an intervention. Now if Harold Varner III would win a major tournament...he has the talent to win some big ones, but just needs a boost, or a sports psychologist. I haven't been this happy about a golf tournament victory since Greg Norman blew the lead in the 1986 U.S. Open and an aging Jack Nicklaus won.

After discovering him at last year's Masters, my love and my money is on Will Zalatoris. Besides being the spittin image of my handsome son, he's already making a name for himself with some close finishes among an impressive group of youngsters. I use that word with much affection and admiration and wish them all well.

Can hit some shots today that were spectacular! Really tough course that produces a true champion every time! The American course managers should take some lessons in how to build really hard conditions! Most American courses are just too easy for these guys!

Re #8: Will Zalatoris, before his career on the PGA Tour, was an Arnold Palmer scholarship player at Wake Forest, and is close to a Wake Forest graduate 35 years ago who is one of my brother's oldest friends. Will is also a friend of my niece since they were both at Wake Forest in the same class. Although Will is a couple of levels removed from me, he is close to some who are close to me. Consequently, I'm his fan. Go Will! (My comments on the Open Championship are a few threads above in the Daily Mail thread.)

One of the things that most bothers me about the “Never Trumpers” is their obsession with the man. I get that they don’t like him – fine, don’t have him over for dinner – but they seemingly wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat screaming his name. Everything, in their minds, is about him and they can’t stand it or shut up about it; it’s beyond their control. The same is true, though in a different way, of the radical left. They have this uncontrollable compulsion to be as far-left as a drum circle in San Francisco, even when it damages their cause.

Why would the seated administration sue a state over a constitutionally verifiable action it takes—especially when 80% or more of its own supporters are in favor of that action? Specifically why would *President Joe Biden choose to sue the state of Arizona over a state statute, handling the state’s business? You may say, “it’s none of the Federal Government’s business what that state decides internally within its borders.” And you would be right. The Biden DOJ did that just a bit more than a week ago. The state of Arizona, in conjunction with the will of its people, passed a law that requires proof of citizenship

Have you ever writhed in a racist dance — have you engaged in the bigotry known as ballet? If the activity isn’t fully nefarious, it’s at least a sinister sign of whiteness. That, per a high-class conservatory. The Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD) — a self-identified “progressive institution” — has decided to banish ballet. From The Telegraph: NSCD…has reviewed the “elitist” art form as part of a diversity drive that has seen the introduction of new policies relating to gender and race. According to “Head of Undergraduate” Francesca McCarthy, ballet boasts a “contentious nature;” it’s saddled with the wickedness of “white European ideas.” Hence, from NSCD’s entrance auditions, ballet has been booted.

In this episode of “You Can’t Make This Stuff up Because Left-Wing Loons Already Did”... Given the left’s hellbent drive to label virtually everything in — and about —America as “racist,” this nutjob story should come as no surprise to anyone. Lemme rephrase that: This nutjob story comes as zero surprise to anyone who hasn’t had their head in the (white) sand since the reign of Barack Obama. Even “better,” today’s left-wing radicals make Obama look like a piker in the race-hustling industry. Case in point, my fellow Americans: some of the names we give our dogs are racist. Who knew?

A little dog may have saved his owner’s life after making a shocking discovery while digging in the backyard. Vincent Webb’s little dog, Arthur, did what most dogs do and started digging in the backyard near the garden outside after relieving himself on Thursday in North Charleston, South Carolina, WCBD reported. Webb noticed that his dog had uncovered something very dangerous – an unexploded ordnance. “I went over and looked at it, found out it was a World War 1 artillery shell,” Webb told WCBD. The owner called 911, and the North Charleston Police Department, Charleston County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad, and the U.S. Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) rushed to his house.

Texas and Arizona have been among the states inundated by the flood of illegal aliens entering through our southern border. Yet, the Biden Administration doesn’t seem to give a darn about how that is affecting and harming the states involved. Their resources have been overwhelmed. So, the two states had a great idea. Let’s ship the people who entered illegally and who are awaiting their asylum claims to Washington, D.C., so that the people in Washington finally get how we are being overwhelmed. They’ve been shipping hundreds of people in dozens of separate bus trips since April. [Video]

CNN host John King thinks voters are being too harsh on Democrats over inflation and is calling for them to be shown “grace” as the fractured party gets slammed over skyrocketing prices and catastrophic policies. With midterms looming in November when Democrats are widely expected to get thrashed and as Americans are crushed by out-of-control inflation, it has become the overriding factor for most voters and that has Democrats terrified. The higher inflation goes, the lower President Biden’s poll numbers are and they are already at historic lows. His disapproval rating on inflation is currently a whopping 70 percent, according to CNN’s Harry Enten who pointed out the disastrous number on Wednesday.
