An elderly woman was killed by two alligators in a pond near her home, officials in Sarasota County, Florida, said late Friday night. Officials said the alligators grabbed her after she fell into the water. At approximately 7:47 p.m., the woman was seen falling into a pond along the course at the Boca Royale Golf and Country Club in Englewood, according to a statement from the Sarasota County Sheriff's office. The gators were removed form the pond? I hope that means they will also be euthanized.

In Florida, nuisance gators removed from waterways become the property of the trapper, who harvests them for hide and meat. That's the only compensation the trappers get.

If I had big gators near my home in Fla, there might be a few accidents for them. It is just stupidity to let them get big near people's homes. Would they let T. Rexs live near people? Not a heck of a lot of difference, really.

They should put anti-gator fences around those ponds when they are located adjacent to residential areas especially in locales where elderly people reside.

We have read here of many alligator attacks. Used to have cannibals, too, until Lucianne said “enough, alaready”… She fell into the water. Struggled to stay afloat. Two alligaors decided “um…should take care of the food shortage for a week”… They have been known to pull persons off paths and boat docks. Alligators, that is.

Re #7, yes, of course, but neither should be wandering around loose near people when they get over about 6 to 7 feet long. No idea how quickly T. Rexs got big. Gators take many years.

Really, really, really horrifying way to go. People don't realize very fast these animals move. A number of people have had run-ins when their little doggie gets snatched and they think they can rescue the poor animal. It's small comfort for Fish and Game to say fatal gator attacks are "rare." They live on in nightmares, such as the little boy at Disney and the frisbee guy who was found mangled in another golf course pond, and now this woman. Apparently, this horrific scene was witnessed. Feel for the witness(es).

Re #17, we lived on rural lakes in central Florida, and canoed in lots of the rivers, have seen lots of gators, but back in the 60s and 70s a 7 footer or bigger was pretty rarely seen anywhere near human habitations. Only WAY out in the swamps. Letting them get this big near people's homes is just seriously stupid.

It began Saturday afternoon as a grim, if familiar, ritual. Dozens of protesters gathered outside the south Minneapolis apartment building where police fatally shot a Black man two days earlier. His name was Andrew Tekle Sundberg; his family said he was having a mental health crisis that led to an overnight standoff with officers, and activists wanted to know why the police could not have taken him in alive. Three months ago in our quarterly list of the top 10 most likely Democratic candidates for president in 2024, we changed things up. But that scenario seemed to be growing more likely, so we decided to also include Biden on the list. The reason: There might come a time when the incumbent president isn’t the most likely nominee the next time around, for whatever reason. And his

President Joe Biden finds himself far underwater with voters, facing foreign crises and increasingly scary inflation figures — all of which attract comparisons to America's 39th president, Jimmy Carter. Carter is perhaps the president most closely associated with high inflation, and thanks to a legacy that includes a stiff 1980 primary challenge and a decisive reelection loss to Ronald Reagan, he's a president to whom no White House Democrat wants to be compared. "High inflation and rising gas prices are economic numbers that make people nervous, which tends to bring down presidential approval ratings — all of that is similar," said Robert
