The US federal vehicle auto watchdog dispatched investigators to probe yet another Tesla crash — this time one along Interstate 75 in Florida that killed two people last week.
A Special Crash Investigations team was sent to probe the fatal collission Wednesday, where a 2015 model year Tesla hit the back of a semi-trailer at a rest area near Gainesville, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Friday.
The agency would not divulge if the Tesla was using the company’s partially automated driving technology. The vehicle was traveling on Interstate 75 about 2 p.m. Wednesday when, for an unknown reason, it careened into a rest area.

I think that the whole autopilot feature is dangerous, and should be banned by law.
But, I also think that this would not be happening if they though Musk was a globalist extremist.

#1, I think that the second part of your comment is spot on.
But as for Musk not being a globalist extremist, you sure?

Re #2, I think he's at least a WHOLE lot more of a libertarian type than most of the billionaires, who seem to be trending towards totalitarian megalomaniacs. He is no friend to the 2nd Amendment, unfortunately, his libertarianism doesn't apparently extend that far. Musk is NOT a conservative, for sure.
I don't think he wants us all dead.....or at least he's good at hiding it if he does.
But, his reason for making the rocket company is that he literally buys the whole MMGW / Climate Change Disaster / end of the world scenario and thinks that getting some of us to Mars is the 'backup plan' for the human race.
Frankly, as much as the rockets are great technology, I think that Mars colony part is really screwy, as Mars' atmosphere is so incredibly thin and all CO2, essentially, and there is very little water, and the sunlight is very dim there, with average temps running as warm as 70F in daytime, but plunging to -100F at night. Air pressure at sea level here is 14.7 psi. Air pressure on Mars is 0.09 psi, around 1/170th of Earth's pressure. Mars' air pressure ranges from the same as 100,000 ft on Earth to 190,000 ft on Earth, varying greatly. This requires a full space suit, not just the masks shown in some sci fi movies.
Mars may be the closest to Earth in our solar system, but it is a real mess for human habitation. I am guessing that Musk got involved with this whole 'end of mankind' baloney as a kid and has had the financial and managerial wherewithall to endulge his personal sci fi fantasies a bit, and in the mean time, there is a good bit of money in affordable, innovative space launch vehicles and space craft.
OTOH, it would be a hell of an adventure to go to Mars and stay there for a while. Way beyond my bravery level and I'm too old by a bunch now. But there are people who would go, in a heartbeat.
I don't think that human life is possible on Mars without massive, massive injection of off-planet resources like metals, energy production systems (reactors) and probably water. And is the soil any good? Earth soil has billions of years of plant material worked into it to make it fertile, whereas Mars' soil is going to basically be sterile sand and clays of different types. I'm no botanist but I don't think that's going to be good for crops without a lot of "admixtures".

Driving a self driving car is like getting vaccinated and boosted twice. You have a death wish and are way too trusting.

Re #4, I think it is the latter way more than the former.
A lot of people are entirely baffled by pretty much ALL technology, not "tech types". That doesn't make them bad people by any means, but they are at the mercy of the technology around them. For probably half of Americans, all "tech" is pretty much the same as magic. So, when they are told that the car can drive itself, and they observe the car doing a decent job for a while....they buy the whole enchilada, imagine that it is going to drive perfectly in all conditions. And there are fatal bugs in the software.

Think of the times when your computer froze, or blue screened.... There's no room for error in a self driving car. Driving may be the only thing that humans are better at than computers.
