Lutheran Bishop Megan Rohrer of the Sierra Pacific Synod (ELCA), the first openly transgender bishop in a major Christian denomination, has resigned over racism allegations after firing the Puerto Rican pastor of a church in Stockton, California.
In 2021, Bishop Rohrer, a biological female, became the first openly transgender bishop in the Evangelical Lutheran Church and oversaw nearly 200 congregations in Northern California and northern Nevada. Rohrer’s term as bishop of the Sierra Pacific Synod was supposed to last six years.
During college, Rohrer identified as a lesbian before becoming transgender and is married to a woman, Laurel.

Wait, what? She declared herself a lesbian when in college, now calls herself a man/transgender and she's married to a woman. So basically, she's just a lesbian, right?

I'm confused - is she/he is "transgender" does that mean she/he is a man who became a woman, or a woman who became a man? The name "Megan" makes me think she/he is a woman, but if she/he is a "biological woman," she/he must have changed to a man, but why does she/he have a woman's name????? Just trying to figure things out.

So it was a woman first, then it became a lesbian and now it's a man. You know, if the marxists can convince us this is normal and that men can get pregnant and have babies, what will they try to convince us of next? That bumblebees are fish? Oh, wait.

The medical profession used to call homosexuality a 'mental disorder' and relented under pressure from the left. I think they need to revisit that original diagnosis.

As of today, I am no longer an ELCA Lutheran. Mrs. Lakerman and I discussed the situation, and considered alternatives to our faith, but reached no decisions.
I will consider exploring part of my religious heritage, as a Jew, but it won't be easy. Perhaps a Messianic Jew, or a Missouri Synod Lutheran might work, , but the ELCA has abandoned itself to cultists. And I can't even consider my former Catholic upbringing. And I might even consider Jimmy Swaggart's church, but there is too much music there.

#11~ Scripture warns “teachers” (clergy) that they will be judged with greater strictness. (James 3:1) Pastor, leading your congregation out of the ELCA brings to mind what is written in Matthew 25:23, “...Well done, good and faithful servant. ... Enter into the joy of your master.” With utmost respect and gratitude for your wisdom and courage. Blessings!
#14~ Agree!
#15~ Made the decision to leave the ELCA for the LCMS more than 20 years ago upon seeing liberalism creeping into the ELCA and regret not having made the transition to the LCMS decades earlier. Some ELCA members chose to become aligned with the NALC (North American Lutheran Church) that departed from the ELCA and was constituted on August 27, 2010 in Columbus, Ohio. There are those who would profoundly disagree, but others believe that Martin Luther was guided by the Holy Spirit to bring about the Reformation and, therefore, his works may be the most authentic “reformation” in existence today.

#16, thank you. I am suffering as the ELCA goes off the rails. I joined the Faith more than 30 years ago, and I never have been around nicer, more decent people. I served on Church Council, represented my parish at a synod gathering, and was completely at home with my religion.
Then, about 20 years ago, something happened. Things changed, communion pacts were signed, and we were told not to judge the direction of our religion.
Luther's grace of God transitioned into good works, refugees, and the like.

#18~ Thank you. As a senior citizen at the time, the inner turmoil is completely understood for having experienced the necessity of leaving the Lutheran church of baptism for a different Synod based on the reasons cited in #18 plus one other, the knowing ordination of homosexuals into the clergy. We all are children of God, and God loves us; however, homosexuality is a sin, an abomination according to Scripture, and the knowing ordination of homosexuals was the catalyst for departure. Personal love and reverence for God could not make an allowance for what seemed to be throwing God’s Word aside for secular acceptance, for political correctness. Hate the sin, love the sinner. It is sincerely hoped that prayer will guide to peace and, possibly, staying within Lutheranism in another Synod. Blessings and peace.
