Broadway is living up to its old nickname of the Great White Way in more ways than one. Despite an historic diverse class of Tony nominees this season, Black entertainers and advocates say Broadway is still far too white when it comes to who’s making the key decisions—and who’s sitting in the audience.(Snip)“There were plenty of Black and brown bodies on stages, but not in position to actually write checks, not in positions to say this is what’s going to be produced and not in positions to put their creative work to use featuring other Black and brown bodies,” Black Theatre Coalition co-founder T. Oliver Reid

I think no one else would tolerate this behavior. One group in particular that has been singled out for violence seems to have little tolerance for those who fail to take charge of themselves.

Let's see: Blacks are about 17 percent of the American population, and they want to grab up the whole scene. . .

Let’s look at recent history: Obama president of USA country fails, mayor of Chicago city fails, mayor of DC city failing badly, police chiefs of many major cities crime out of control cities fail, Sec of Defense Austin worst military disaster in history in Afghanistan, readiness at all time low. Now the same people want Broadway— any guesses how this will turn out do you see a pattern developing here?

For a show to be successful and provide a return on investment, it has to have universal appeal. Catering to an audience that's interested only in "shows offering Black narratives" is a losing proposition. But maybe the advocates for a more "black Broadway" wouldn't mind investing their own money and taking a loss for the cause.

The only ones preventing "Black and Brown" bodies from attending Broadway shows are people with Black and Brown bodies. The only people stopping Black & Brown people from financing Broadway shows are Black and Brown people. The casts and crews of Broadway shows are artificially have disproportionate numbers of minorities just to keep the PC police happy. The minorities on Broadway advocates groups seem more worried about minority representation than putting on quality shows. They seem to forget that besides being entertainment, Broadway is also big business. A very expensive big business that wants to make money.

There is plenty of money in The Community. Today's news included Tiger Woods becoming a billionaire. LeBron and others have dough. They can produce plays on Broadway...why don't they?

Check out “We See You, White American Theatre,” or WeSeeYouWAT, for short. They have their own website complete with a manifesto and 29 pages of demands, some of which are mandatory 50% POC audience and administrative staff without consideration of merit, no copyright consequences if they have to change a “white play” to suit the POC agenda, and in fact compensation to POC if there are costs involved in making the changes, and an end to 9-5 workday rehearsals because “people of color’s bodies can’t work that hard.” I kid you not.

It was nicknamed the Great White Way because of all the lights. Keep chasing away your customer base and they'll go out.

Oh, stop it! It takes tons of money to mount a production on Broadway. The whining blacks are welcome to give it a try. Are they ready to lose a ton of money? (Nope. No government subsidy.)

Isn't it convenient that a street named the great white way for all the lights happens to play into the racist black woke agenda. Since most of the theater goers are white no matter what the play is about, tell these racist black actors to open an all black theater district, and see how that pans out. They can do without the lights, and call it the great dark way, and see how many people want to enter that street.

I have a CRAZY idea! Remember back in the old days last month, when Democrats defended Twitter, Facebook etc as being private businesses who could and should censor conservatives however they liked? Remember when they suggested that conservatives should start their own platform/s if they didn't like it?
Well....... Do what Tyler Perry did. Start your own version of Broadway.

Living 45 minutes from Manhattan there was a time (when) a visit to Broadway was a part of our lives. Hamilton was the straw that broke the camel's back for me.

I have no desire to go to NYC, pay outrageous prices to see any play, black, brown, white or whatever. That and risk my life visiting a giant ****hole of a city.

Well then, is the Apollo Theater in Harlem too Black? Doesn't it need more White acts staff. And crew? Just wondering in the name of equity and equality.

Write and produce your own Broadway musical. I am reminded of the Black Wizard of Oz starring middle aged Diana Ross as the child Dorothy.

Affirmative action is not enough, White guilt patronage is not enough, and awards for being bLACK are not enough; they demand the "keys to the kingdom" too. On whose ears will these pleas fall once USA becomes majority Latinx, and why does no other racial group whine this way?
