In the summer of 1994, Tony Zepeda and dozens of other teenagers marched through the streets of Los Angeles dressed in fake prison uniforms and toting balls and chains. California had just passed its punitive Three Strikes law, which mandated 25 years to life in prison for a third felony conviction of any kind. (snip)But in South Central Los Angeles, Zepeda’s mentor, Karen Bass, spent much of 1994 teaching Black and Latino teenagers how to organize against the laws being passed to put them in prison.(snip)California’s new three strikes law was racist, (snip)“We know who is going to jail. "we know who is going to jail. It isn't the white middle class male. Look at the statistics." What the statistics show is who is committing crimes and being found guilty. The reality is the "White Middle Class males aren't committing the majority of violent crimes. The idea was to put repeat or career criminals away for good if they show the pattern by committing the third "felony" crime. Not just misdemeanors but felonies. If minorities commit felonies our of proportion to their numbers in the general population, of course they will reflect that in the statistics. Whites as the majority still commit the majority overall of crimes just due to numbers, and reflect that in the numbers incarcerated. I am sure there are other reasons for the numbers but the fact that those minorities have a higher rate of criminal activity is going to be reflected in the stats. That isn't racism it's reality. Stop the criminal activities among the minorities or at least reduce the numbers and that will be reflected in the stats as well.

Street activists are dangerous crazies, and most are extremists. Good luck, LA. Why do I bet that LA will choose badly again?

Not sure where her base is in L.A. but God help the people of Los Angeles if she wins. She is very liberal, and activists tend to have narrow focus. Rick Caruso should win, and would be much stronger on the issues affecting Los Angeles.

South Carolina rep Nancy Mace is the typical DC political creature who sheds skin, changes position and manipulates sentences to obfuscate her DeceptiCon nature. In essence, she is the epitome of a new Nikki Haley, so it doesn’t come as a surprise to see Haley and the DeceptiCon crew circle the wagons to protect Mace from the primary challenge of Katie Arrington. Nikki Haley and her donor allies are pouring money into Mace’s district and putting all their clout behind her race. However, Donald Trump has endorsed Katie Arrington, who is the favorite of the grass roots MAGA base. If South Carolina republicans want to hit Mitch McConnell and his

If you know the way Washington DC thinks, specifically thinks about their own scale of importance amid a world filled with lesser people who do not understand the value of their elite place in the construction of government, then you could easily predict what is happening right now. A previous senate bill that would have afforded security details to Supreme Court Justices, is now stalled in the House of Representatives as Nancy Pelosi and top Democrat politicians add an additional set of people who should gain the full benefit of taxpayer funded security details.Democrats in the House are using the opportunity provided by bipartisan agreement to enhance the personal security services

Nothing beats success like success. President Donald John Trump's victories in the Republican primaries have convinced me that I was wrong. Endorsing candidates rocked. He is 116-7 for a 94.3% success rate. That translates into a .943 batting average. In Tuesday's primaries, he went 16-0. A 17th race -- Ryan Zinke's bid for Congress in Montana -- is undecided but he is ahead by 1.5 points. Sure, many of those hits were singles. Kristi Noem never was at risk in her bid for the Republican nod for another term as governor of South Dakota. But singles add up. Pete Rose had 3,215 career singles on his way to a 4,256-hit career,

A Washington law firm has filed a federal lawsuit against the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for interfering with the use of ivermectin as a treatment for COVID-19. The lawsuit was filed by Boyden Gray & Associates on behalf of three doctors who were disciplined for prescribing human-grade ivermectin to patients. The firm’s founder, attorney Boyden Gray, is a former legal adviser to the Reagan and Bush administrations. Gray told The Epoch Times that the FDA had violated well-established law that allows doctors to prescribe an FDA-approved drug as an off-label treatment. Ivermectin was no different, he said. It was approved by the FDA in 1966.

President Barack Obama approved a statement by the U.S. intelligence community in October 2016 accusing Russia of stealing emails from the Democratic National Committee (DNC), despite the U.S. government not having obtained the DNC server images crucial to ascertaining whether Moscow was involved in the theft. FBI emails recently made public during the trial against now-acquitted DNC attorney Michael Sussmann show the bureau was still in the process of requesting images of the DNC servers on Oct. 13, 2016. The server images, which are equivalent to a virtual copy of the alleged crime scene, were taken by private cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike.

As the U.S. military rolls out its new Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT), which imposes different physical standards and requirements for men and women, longtime defense analysts and observers say that the military’s push for diversity and inclusion—a trend that accelerated under President Barack Obama and that the Biden administration aggressively carries forward—undermines combat training and readiness. “The Biden administration has assigned priority to diversity, inclusion, and equity as the primary criteria. That is a key decision and from it flows everything else that is problematic” in the military today, said Elaine Donnelly, founder and president of the Center for Military Readiness, a public policy organization in Livonia, Michigan.

It wasn’t that long ago when the left’s narrative on ‘gay rights’ was simple, straightforward, and easy to support: Let’s all be tolerant of one another, live and let live, and don’t discriminate. Tolerance is, after all, one of the fundamental tenets of the philosophy which drove America’s founding. But as the saying goes, “give someone an inch and they’ll take a mile,” which is the situation in which we find ourselves today. The message of ‘tolerance’ eventually morphed into ‘acceptance.’ At some point late in the Obama Administration, our culture decided that it was inadequate to merely tolerate the shenanigans of the LGBTQ community, we needed to welcome them.

Speculation is rife concerning the possible presidential candidates representing the two major parties as the nation approaches the 2024 elections. Everyone has an opinion, and the pundits are competing in the expertise sweepstakes. What can we say with some degree of plausibility? The Democrat roster is, by all accounts, dramatically uninspiring. Biden, who speaks in tongues, is plainly beyond redeeming; the question is whether he will manage to survive the year, let alone stumble, lollop, and whiffle to the end of his first term. Kamala Harris belongs in vaudeville or farce, given her talent for provoking laughter. Both will have to be retired in favor of an electable candidate. But who?

The series of hearings that will take place over the next several weeks begin with a prime-time session Thursday night in which the nine-member panel plans to give an overview of its 11-month investigation. More than 1,000 people have been interviewed by the panel, and only snippets of that testimony have been revealed to the public, mostly through court filings.

I thought it would be fun. That's what I told my friend Mack when I asked her to drive with me from New Orleans to Chicago and back in an electric car. I'd made long road trips before, surviving popped tires, blown headlights and shredded wheel-well liners in my 2008 Volkswagen Jetta. I figured driving the brand-new Kia EV6 I'd rented would be a piece of cake. If, that is, the public-charging infrastructure cooperated. We wouldn't be the first to test it.
