Colleges Justify Tuition Hikes By Pointing
To Inflation

Original Article

Many universities are increasing tuition for the upcoming school year while pointing to record-high price levels. Inflation reached 8.3% as of last month, remaining near elevated levels last seen 40 years ago. The high prices coincide with the United States economy shrinking at a 1.5% annualized rate in the first quarter of 2022 — representing the only quarter with negative growth since COVID-19 hit the United States. As a result, some economists are warning of stagflation — a reference to the sluggish economic growth and high inflation that characterized the late 1970s under President Jimmy Carter.

And the fact that struggling taxpayers will be on the hook for these university puke's bills has nothing to do with it. Right? I hope some enterprising Conservatives have the foresight to start videoing all the morons in Florida on Spring Break next year and then see just how angry taxpayers can get.

They’re charging too much already for what amounts to four years at a summer camp. I could supply a kid four year’s worth of beer and pizza, a tiny bedroom they have to share with at least one other person, four year’s worth of access to YouTube and The Great Courses and a library card for a fraction of what it costs for a semester at a mediocre state school. And I’d still have money left over for four debauched cruises over Spring Break for them on Carnival. Any lectures by professors could be covered by spending weekends riding public transportation and conversing with the drunks, the junkies and the just plain mentally ill.

I have friends here from a foreign country attending the U. of MN. The greedy universities make a killing on foreign students. They're charged full tuition, not offered financial aid, and have a limited amount of low-paying jobs for foreign students. At the height of the pandemic when students were not allowed to go to class, but rather had to watch their computer screens, the U. of M. refunded them $100 for the semester. My point is not that these rich foreign kids can afford to pay that; my point is that the universities with their liberal profs and staff, are soaking in all this money and still demanding breaks from the govt.

A shocking new poll puts Republican Christine Drazan just slightly ahead of Democrat Tina Kotek in the Oregon governor’s race.Conducted between May 25-27, the new poll from Nelson Research showed Drazan had 29.5 percent of support out of 516 likely voters, while Kotek had just 27.5 percent of support with a margin of error of 4.3 percent. Independent Betsy Johnson trails with just 19.4 percent of support. (Tweet) The poll did not explore the top reasons for Drazan’s support, though it might stem from the fact that Oregon had some of the strictest coronavirus policies in the nation, which Drazan has outright opposed.

In a new analysis for the Center for Immigration Studies, my colleague Karen Zeigler and I show that the total foreign-born or immigrant population reached 47 million in April 2022 — the highest number ever in American history, and an increase of 2 million in just the first 16 months of the Biden administration. These numbers are extraordinary, not only because they indicate that America has lost control of its borders, but also because they raise profound questions about how many people the country can successfully integrate.

A California task force has released a report calling for 'comprehensive reparations' for African American residents, that include free four-year college, payouts, and raising the minimum wage in predominantly black industries, such as agricultural. The more than 500-page document consists of 13 chapters and breaks down reparation suggestions for the eligible black community in California to compensate for the 'racial terror' they've endured. The task force voted in March to limit reparations to descendants of slaves, overruling reparations advocates who wanted to expand compensation to all black people in the US.

As inflation has been knocking the wind out of Democrats' midterm strategy, the Biden White House has turned to pop culture icons and TikTok influencers to drum up support among its key voter base - young people. And while strategists say that such forays into the world of celebrity -- like bringing K-pop group BTS to the White House -- often deliver a momentary boost, even young voters are not soon to forget that everyday goods are being priced out of their budget. Biden, a self-professed K-Pop fan, invited the global supergroup to the White House Tuesday to talk about combatting Asian hate crimes.

Last year, the United Methodist Church accepted Isaac Simmons, who regularly preaches dressed as a drag queen under the name Ms. Penny Cost, as a candidate for ordination. Since that time, Simmons, who serves as an associate pastor at Hope United Methodist Church in Bloomington, Illinois, has challenged basic theological concepts, projecting a worldview where divinity rests not in God but in queerness. In a church preparing to split over LGBTQ issues, the drag queen pastor, who embraces queer theology while barely attempting to plaster on the basic tenets of Christian theology, has become a lightning rod.
