If the rest of us must endure Drag Queen Story Hours in the libraries that are funded by our tax dollars, why shouldn't our servicepersons have to celebrate them too? After all, Gay Pride is one of the main things they're fighting for; that and battling White Privilege and climate change, and defending other countries' borders while leaving our own wide open.

It breaks my heart but I saw it far too many times during my 20 years in. Some weenie 2nd Lt will sign onto any policy no matter how stupid it might be, in hopes of getting that promotion. If that 2nd Lt is a white male he is relegated to a back office and forgotten. If he is black, or a girl or a Moslem, his supervisors are afraid to say no and the idiocy goes into perpetuity. And the Lt gets promoted over and over.

Pope Francis on Sunday named as cardinal San Diego Bishop Robert W. McElroy, a Roman Catholic leader who had spoken out against the calls for bishops to exclude pro-choice politicians like President Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi from Holy Communion over their stances on abortion. The move comes in the wake of San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone's announcement earlier this month that he would bar Pelosi from receiving Holy Communion due to her stance on abortion. In naming McElroy, Francis passed over Cordileone, who holds a higher rank.

In the 1970s, Irene Demas and her husband Tony would trade dishes at their restaurant for the talents of the locals, including bakers, craftsmen, and artisans. One of these exchanges gave them something they could have never imagined: a painting by the acclaimed Canadian folk artist Maud Lewis, which is now worth thousands of dollars. Painter John Kinnear and his wife would go (to) the Villa, Irene’s restaurant, almost every day for lunch. And every time, Kinnear would only ever order a grilled cheese sandwich, which he exchanged for a selection of painting(s) from him and his friends. “Mind you, it wasn’t just an ordinary grilled cheese.

A military strike that utilized quadcopter drones launched from inside Iran hit the top-secret Iranian military base at Parchin. It’s believed the strike targeted Iran’s drone research and development complex and not its missile or nuclear research facilities. No nation has claimed responsibility for the attack, but both Iran and the U.S. say that it fits the pattern of past attacks by Israel. The attack follows an assassination of a colonel in the Revolutionary Guards last week. Analysts believe the Israelis intended it as a warning to Iran to stop targeting Israeli citizens abroad.

Nancy Pelosi is in serious trouble. And not the kind of trouble associated with such petty, earthly concerns like her party losing its majority in a humiliating and historic fashion this coming November. And with that loss, her loss of the speakership for the second time in a dozen years. No, Nancy Pelosi has some serious trouble with the disposition of her soul. And she needs our prayers, even if she doesn't believe it herself. Last week, her Archbishop, the aptly named Salvatore Cordileone, notified Pelosi that she should no longer present herself for the Holy Eucharist when attending Mass.

Back in 1988, scientists in London almost seem to have had a crystal ball. Writing in the International Journal of Epidemiology, they made a bold – and surprisingly prescient – prediction about monkeypox: Over time, "the average magnitude and duration of monkeypox epidemics will increase," they wrote. At the time, monkeypox was an extremely rare disease. Health-care workers detected only a few cases a year in West and Central Africa. People caught the disease almost exclusively from rodents or primates and then spread the virus to only a few people. Transmission between people was limited. But the foresighted scientists warned that, over
