Here’s how much US households are spending
on gas

American families are shelling out what amounts to $5,000 per year to put gas in their cars—a painful increase from $2,800 just a year ago, according to a new report. The new study by Yardeni Research shows the ever-increasing financial burden borne by US households in recent months as the price of fuel has reached record levels. In March, the annual rate of gasoline spending by US households was at $3,800, according to the study. “No wonder that the Consumer Sentiment Index is so depressed. The wonder is that retail sales have been so surprisingly strong during April and May,” Yardeni said in a note.

We should simply drive around in a Tesla like AOC. Or better yet, a massive SUV where the chauffeur unloads your bicycle a block before your destination, the way Mayor Pete does it. (Most people would choose to add a seat to the bike, but to each his own.)

I just drove from NH to AZ, UT, and NM for a 6 week adventure towing a trailer. I averaged 11.7 mpg, drove 8900+ miles and spent $3500+ on gasoline. Based on $5000/year I am now restricted to just going to the grocery store. It is not even summer yet. Don't let me go off on the price of electricity or fuel oil in NH. It iis the highest ever. Let's go Brandon.

This money spent on fuel to get to work, to the Doctors Office, to the grocery store is money not spent on other things. Recession is on the way.

Walmart, which has always been the cheapest was $4.86 about an hour ago. We took a chance and went to our local independent grocery store and it was $4.59 with long lines. Luckily the have a lot of pumps and we got the "cheap" gas. (Good gas though) We were talking with a few people waiting and everyone agreed that this was a conscious decision that Biden made knowing that it would screw every working family. Listening to the comments of strangers, my husband got into the car and said "It's good to be among our people." I email myself my grocery lists every week and my lists include the advertised prices. We used to get gas at the same time (now we fill at the half tank level) each week. On May 18, 2020 we paid $1.79 at the same pumps as tonight. $2.80 per gallon less than today. At these prices it will do us in fast. Somebody tell Putin to stop this!

A Virginia board is considering restoring the names of two schools which were originally named for Confederate generals but changed in 2020 after the murder of George Floyd. The Shenandoah County School Board in 2020 voted to change Stonewall Jackson High School to Mountain View High School and Ashby-Lee Elementary School to Honey Run Elementary School. But in the two years since, community members—especially alumni—have expressed opposition to the name changes, school board member Cynthia Walsh told NBC News. More than 4,000 people have signed a petition to change the names back, Vice Chair Dennis Barlow said at a board meeting, where the issue was discussed at length

Monkeypox contact tracers are probing gay bars and spas as they scramble to contain an outbreak of the rare disease. Health chiefs in the UK are 'actively investigating' venues visited by six homosexual and bisexual men who tested positive in the past week. They include bars, clubs and saunas, according to an update by the World Health Organization (WHO). Six of Britain's nine confirmed cases are men who have sex with men, which officials say is 'highly suggestive of spread in sexual networks'. A similar pattern is emerging in Europe, where seven gay or bisexual men have tested positive in Spain and nine 'mostly young' males in Portugal.

Do you know what it’s technically called when “government takes control of the means of production?” Yeah, that. This afternoon Joe Biden invoked the Defense Production Act giving Health and Human Services the legal authority to control the supplies needed for the creation of baby formula (how it is made), and the authority to determine distribution equity (who gets it). White House – “[T]he authority of the President conferred by section 101 of the Act to require performance of contracts or orders … is delegated to the Secretary of Health and Human Services with respect to all health resources, including the ingredients necessary to manufacture infant formula.”
