OLYMPIA, Wash. — “Pot,” “weed,” “grass,” “Mary Jane,” “flower” — there is no shortage of terms to describe cannabis. However, Washington state is taking one word officially off the table: “marijuana.” Legislators recently passed a law that changes every Revised Code of Washington with the word “marijuana.” The change gets rid of the term, swapping it out for the word “cannabis.” Supporters say the word “marijuana” has a long history of racism. “The term ‘marijuana’ itself is pejorative and racist,” said Washington state Rep. Melanie Morgan during testimony in 2021. Morgan is a Democrat representing the 29th Legislative District and sponsored the bill

Comments:

Insanity reigns in the state of Washington. They have nothing better to do than come up with made up racism.

Spain is not a race, it's a place. Spanish is spoken by mostly white people. Marijuana is the drug version of cannibis. Hemp is the non-drug version. Cannibis can mean anything to do with the whole genera of plant. Solving a problem that doesn't exist while creating a problem that never existed. Then saying they accomplished something important. Only gov't.

I think it is all a tool to start what they actually said they want: Money from the selling of marijuana to go to black businesses and black college tuition. The word is not racist, but these democrats especially these Washington State black democrats are racist against the whites. They want their share of the tax dollars to be bigger than other citizens.

Not to mention that it will cost many thousands of tax dollars to reprint the pages in the many Washington Statutes that contain the word "marijuana." Just one example: years ago, a few federal politicians opined that "illegal alien" is offensive and therefore should be removed from all federal statutes. A quick search of a few legal research databases revealed that at least 77 federal statutes included "illegal alien." The costs of such removals would probably have been several hundreds of thousands of dollars. Wokeness can be expensive in many ways.

(snip) poor Depp is also the perfect star stereotype: Horrible childhood, limited education, substance abuse, and sexually perverse relationships. On-screen, he’s in control, even if his character is not; off-screen, he married a woman who was famously crazy and vicious and then suffered horribly at her hands because he’s weak and lacks internal resources.
