EPHRATA, Wash. — Ephrata homeowners got a bit of a surprise when a cougar came wandering through their neighborhood. KXLY TV reported that April Longwill shared video taken by her husband that showed the cougar scrambling up a fence into a backyard. Ephrata Police said that cougar ended up clawing through a screen door and entered a resident's house. The homeowners inside quickly tranquilized it, but the cougar continue, running into the kitchen and climbing up the sink to try jumping out the window.. They tranquilized the cougar again and it finally went to sleep.

Comments:

Ephrata is about 132 miles straight east of Seattle. Even for Washington state this is a little strange.

"The homeowners inside quickly tranquilized it"????? What the heck? Who even has a tranquilizer gun? And they need a dart, loaded with a drug....and on the TV shows that I have seen where they are used, they take a couple of minute to load and set up the dart. The only thing I can imagine is some sort of a veterinarian who had one for his/her business. Possibly an animal research scientist. A one in a million chance, there. If it had been me, I'd have quickly tranquilized it, too with a couple of .45 ACP rounds to the chest once it was inside the house. It'd be pretty tranquil after that. I wouldn't set out to hunt mountain lions, and wish them no ill will IF THEY STAY AWAY FROM MY HOME. Same rule for rattlesnakes. In the wild, far from my home....I'll back off and 'live and let live'. Near my home.....bam, dead. Not allowed. I keep a rifle handy for the coyotes that occasionally come thru my property. Not going to eat my pets.

The late Miami cocaine cowboy Jon Roberts, before he got busted in the late-'80s and sent to prison, lived like a king with stables of horses and two full grown house cougars (mountain lions) who were photographed in bed with Roberts's girlfriend. The big cats were apparently tame, but either one could rip a human being to shreds in seconds. I wouldn't trust the catamount. Florida's own panthers, down to fifteen or twenty specimens and near extinction thirty years ago, had their numbers augmented by female West Texas mountain lions, which bred with the survivors. There are thought to be about 230 of the big cats in the state in 2021.

Something weird is going on in Utah. Last week, a group from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources dispatched to count sheep spied a shiny monolith in the middle of nowhere. After spending several hours behind bars Wednesday, Rashyla Levitt returned Thursday to the streets, protesting and confronting authorities just a day after Seattle Police Department officers swept through the area that had been known as the Capitol Hill Occupied Protest. “We are back with the fire and we are ready to go,” she said. Levitt was one 44 people arrested early Wednesday morning in Capitol Hill as police moved in during a predawn operation that pushed a handful of demonstrators from the area. Police charged Levitt with failure to disperse, but since it was only a misdemeanor, the judge released her. The hasty release raised questions about if the protesters would quickly reassemble.

This week, we're marking the one-year anniversary of the murder of George Floyd. His death at the hands of Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin—who has been convicted of two counts of murder and one of manslaughter—sparked a national conversation about racism in America. It's a conversation that's long overdue, that activists like us have been waiting for for too long. (Snip) Rather than exposing our struggle, it dilutes and erases it behind a broader and inaccurate class of victims. Yesterday, Peter Doocy asked Jen Psaki why President Biden wasn’t pressing for more information on the Wuhan lab leak theory. “We have repeatedly called for the WHO to support an expert-driven evaluation of the pandemic’s origins,” Psaki replied. That answer was very troubling, I observed in our story on Psaki’s response. Is there an American investigation still ongoing into the question from the Biden team, I asked? Because it doesn’t sound like it, from what Psaki was saying — and because we surely can’t trust anything that WHO concludes on the matter, given their prior actions. Turns out that was a good question to ask. Because now there are reports

More than 200 rioters—most fully clad in black and many wearing gas masks—trashed the troubled City of Roses soon after a peaceful march ended late Tuesday, according to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB). Some of the mob tried to torch the Multnomah County Justice Center by pushing flaming dumpsters against the building as at least two people tried to pry open the doors and get inside, the force said.
