The War In Ukraine Is An Historic Mistake

A Russian General Agrees with the US President: One month before Russian forces invaded Ukraine, a retired Russian general condemned the imminent war in much the same terms as President Joe Biden. Both the general and US. President have called on President Vladimir Putin to step down. War against Ukraine, the general wrote, is an unnecessary and criminal act that will harm the Russian people and their country. Biden now calls Putin a war criminal.

Hard line general forced to retire by Vlad in 2001 at the age of 57. Definitely no "axe to grind" there!

Never heard of Walter or the 1945 blog but you don't have to sift through the dead general files to get one to show agreement with biden on a foreign war . Afghanistan is loaded with them and they all agree with joes war strategies.

What a surreal, typically Democrat, god-incarnate, perspective of the article title -- like Joe Biden is some lone voice in the wilderness calling Russia's war on Ukraine a mistake. And we should all wake up every morning wondering what Joe thinks.

Shows the sorry state of the Russian military if they have a general agreeing with our faux-presudent... who is certainly senile or deeply demented. Saying out loud within reach of Putin is monumentally suicidal.

What's that about failure being an orphan? One wonders what the General and his All-Russian Officers’ Assembly thought in the months leading up to this war. Perhaps they believed their own lies regarding Russian military prowess, which has never been good except for chasing a defeated (by the winter weather) foe home. It's naval forces are even less celebrated. How many American generals have disagreed with Presidential military decisions? Seems the one most recently was an insubordinate Chair of the Joint Chiefs, who still holds that office. Others have done the same over the years, perhaps McClellan the worst example during our Civil War. This tidbit is interesting because it may expose a growing schism between Putin and the military. No one likes being exposed, and the Russian military is being embarrassed almost daily by its malperformance against what was thought an inferior foe. Russians are not good losers. Putin may find himself in a deep hole with the military and his people. He needs a victory. A sinking flagship is not a good omen. The question now is how far will Putin go...how far will his generals allow him to go to secure victory.

Gen. Ivashov, if you want to live longer, keep your defeatist attitude the hell away from Gen. Dvornikov and Putie. Dvornikov promised Putie he would deliver and doesn't need losers like Ivaskov peeing in their pants. But, Dvornikov has his own problem, too. His enlisted boys don't want to fight and miss their mommies. Neither do his junior officers who miss their 3rd and 4th wives. Dvornikov's other problem - he might be the next general to have a come to Jesus meeting with Putie. And Putie does not believe in God.

Donald Trump appeared on Sean Hannity’s show last night on Fox News. He commented on a variety of topics, including how the Biden administration has killed America’s energy independence. But it was another comment that made the most news, lining up with something Joe Biden said days earlier: that Russia is committing genocide in Ukraine.

Russia already has nuclear weapons in the Baltic region, Lithuanian Defence Minister Arvydas Anusauskas said on Thursday. One of Russian President Vladimir Putin's closest allies warned NATO on Thursday that if Sweden and Finland joined the U.S.-led military alliance then Russia would have to bolster its defences in the region, including by deploying nuclear weapons. Anusauskas told Lithuania's BNS wire that nuclear weapons have been deployed in Russia's Kaliningrad exclave on the Baltic Sea since before the current crisis.

Pundits skeptical of or even hostile to Ukraine’s cause in its defensive war against Russia have different reasons, or rationalizations, for their views and hail from different points on the political spectrum. But there is one belief that unites nearly all of them: the conviction that Ukraine is not a democracy fighting for its survival but an American “Deep State” project, with a regime installed by a 2014 coup that was led by Ukrainian far-right extremists and backed or even engineered by the U.S. State Department.

Russia’s ill-fated invasion of Ukraine recalls Britain and France’s Suez campaign in 1956. Britain and France’s humiliating retreat marked the end of their status as first-rank powers and the beginning of a troubled period of political crises and loss of territory to independence movements. History may repeat itself.

A quarter-century ago, the U.S. Senate was faced with a major question: whether to ratify expanding the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to include Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary, which would bring the alliance closer to Russia’s border. The public generally supported NATO expansion, as did both President Bill Clinton and his 1996 GOP opponent, Bob Dole. Still, one foreign policy expert at the time said the ratification would require a “feat of magic”: Support for NATO expansion was shallow, and senators had hugely varied priorities.

A satellite image of Bucha in Ukraine appears to show bodies lying in the street nearly two weeks before the Russians left the town. The image from 19 March, first reported by the New York Times and confirmed by the BBC, directly contradicts Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's claim that footage of bodies in Bucha, that has emerged in recent days, was "staged" after the Russians withdrew. The satellite image shows objects that appear to be bodies in the exact locations where they were subsequently found by Ukrainian forces when they regained control of the town north of Kyiv.

Surely, said my fellow hacks, I would witness the end of Leonid Brezhnev, the evil man in the Kremlin. Well, end-Brezhnev turned out to be mid-Brezhnev as he staggered on and on. < snip > My bet, though, is that we have reached mid-Putin not end-Putin. The New York Times published an op-ed Friday that proposes eliminating belief in God — as one of the holiest weekends of the year begins. Titled “In This Time of War, I Propose We Give Up God,” the article claims that God is responsible for “war and violence” and for “oppression and suffering,” and suggests that people stop teaching children about Him. Author Shalom Auslander, who is disillusioned about his upbringing in a religious Jewish community in New York, argues (original emphasis): God, it seems, paints with a wide brush. He paints with a roller. In Egypt, said our rabbi, he even killed first-born cattle.

Except when it is. But that’s another story. Last Thursday, Joe Biden spoke to students and faculty at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro. It was boilerplate political stuff — blaming the supply chain problems on COVID-19, increased fuel prices on the Russians, and inflation wasn’t his fault. At the end of the speech, Biden’s eyes became a little glassy and he turned around slowly and extended his hand. Except there was no one there.
