New York Times Op-ed on Holy Weekend:
Let’s Get Rid of God

The New York Times published an op-ed Friday that proposes eliminating belief in God — as one of the holiest weekends of the year begins. Titled “In This Time of War, I Propose We Give Up God,” the article claims that God is responsible for “war and violence” and for “oppression and suffering,” and suggests that people stop teaching children about Him. Author Shalom Auslander, who is disillusioned about his upbringing in a religious Jewish community in New York, argues (original emphasis): God, it seems, paints with a wide brush. He paints with a roller. In Egypt, said our rabbi, he even killed first-born cattle.

I have a counter-proposal: Let's get rid of the New York Times!

Now, more than ever, Christians need to unite and spread the Gospel. I am almost through reading the book, Christianity and Wokeism, by Owen Strachan, a Maine native son (from Machias) and a Bowdoin College alumnus. I recommend it. We must "Put on the whole armor of God to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places!" (Ephesians 6:11&12) I have always wondered why the principals of the sister publication of the NYTimes, Washington Post, don't recognize the ambiguity of their adopted motto (after Trump was elected)..."Democracy dies in Darkness." Is that their goal? The death of democracy in the darkness that compels them each day?

For all their claims of being the ones who understand nuance, liberals are intellectual clods. The author of the garbage piece in the New York Times bases his premise on a single occurrence without context or doing the hard work of understanding the message of the Bible. Of course, his rabbi probably isn't going to teach him about the type/anti-type message delivered by the Passover story in prospect of the blood sacrifice of Christ.

Psalm 14:1, The fool in his heart says there is no God.
Might I suggest that Shalom Auslander is the King of the Fools and will regret his words one of these days. God gave man free will, and the fact that some people will reject Him and His sovereignty does not dilute His power or negate His existence. I pity anyone who does not or will not consider God’s existence. The misery we see all around us is man’s doing. It was never the plan of God that we would live this way. Man in his arrogance defied God and continues down that path to this day. I am so thankful God made a way for us to be reconciled to Him, but it came with a high price. What He freely did in human flesh was a gift to all of us. He paid a debt we could never begin to pay, and I am so grateful He did. I suggest Mr. Auslander read the book entitled,
Jesus on Trial by David Limbaugh or any of his other books on Jesus if he seeks the truth.

IMO, NYT is finally putting their creed in writing. Apparently, no one has ever read The Word. I haven't checked to see if NYT published anything about the ancient copper scroll found recently on Mt. Ebal. Good luck wid dat, as they say.

27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with "social" religion. Discredit the Bible
and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a "religious crutch."
28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it
violates the principle of "separation of church and state."
Looks like the Times has signed onto the Communist Manifesto...a POX on them...would be interesting to watch when they finally meet God...

I think if I were an atheist, I would feel a little left out during Holy Week too. All that drama - Holy Thursday with the institution of the Mass and Good Friday with the carrying of the cross and the crucifixion and Holy Saturday with the empty tomb and then Resurrection Sunday. I understand there were many witnesses - some unbelievers - to Christ after His Resurrection and to the other happenings that week (so it is a true story - not a movie script), but I was pleasantly surprised by so many people wishing me and others a "Happy Easter" these few days - not just at church services, but in convenience stores and gas stations and the market too. I think there are more of us than there are of them.
Speaking of movies, I recommend an excellent movie directed, produced and acted by Clint Eastwood (He is 90 and there is even a love story in it with him and a widow - who is not 90). It is called "Cry Macho" (Macho is the name of a rooster owned by a little boy in the story.) Nice family movie - nothing salacious - so the kids can watch too, but it is so well-written and acted and beautifully filmed. Got it in the library. I will watch it again with the family on Easter after dinner. Happy Easter! Happy Passover! (there are more of us than there are of them)

This is high school level drivel.
But take it for what it is and consider when the paper has decided to publish it. If you pay attention, your adversaries will tell you who they and what their intentions are.

Just about finished reading through the book of Isaiah. Several themes and observations stand out. God's justice and mercy to Israel. Many hymn lines and familiar Bible quotes. A number of passages and verses referred to in the New Testament, of course Isaiah 61 being one of the most prominent, quoted by Jesus himself. But the other New Testament authors, having been Jews knew the contents of Isaiah, and other books. These men knew their "Bible". My point is that the Bible is a coherent, consistent book, and will be found as such by anyone who takes the time to read it.

While evil people have done evil things purportedly in God's name, their deeds pale in comparison to the evil and mass murder committed by the regimes of Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and others, who -- like many in the NY Times crowd -- revered the god of Socialism.

Yesterday I started reading The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel. Written in 1998, the author is an investigative reporter who digs into the question of the existence of Christ, his works and his resurrection as if it were a court case. Though I have always been a believer, I got the book on the advice of Dan Bongino who says that it changed his life. The sequel book is The Case for Heaven, which I will start as soon as I finish the first book. I will not be reading the Slimes article.
Happy and blessed Easter, everyone!

I am sure that the current owners of the slimes, the Ochs-Sulzberger families, highly approve of Auslander's op-ed. Which is strange for a guy and a family comprised of Zionist Jews would behave this way. Gets back to the age-old question of why those of the Jewish faith tend to vote democrat.
Auslander, you might want to walk this op-ed back before God finds out.

He is free to his beliefs, free to share them, and I am free to ignore him. While I do not subscribe to any certain religion I do believe in a higher power and look to God for strength and guidance. God gave men and women the ability to choose their path in life. There is evil in this world and it appears a lot of stupidity. Happy Easter everyone.

Let’s try some critical thinking here, Shalom. If we can simply get rid of God because He causes “war and violence” and “oppression and suffering” then that means that God is something that we created in the first place. And, if that’s true, then it is we (us?) who created the “war and violence,” etc.
Now, if you are suggesting that we merely ignore God and not believe in Him anymore, does that mean we have the ability to make Him disappear, like a child learning to conquer his nightmares? I would think that a being who created all these horrors you speak of would not only refuse to disappear, but perhaps double down. Like Satan, maybe? It all boils down to the fact that a God you don’t believe in doesn’t behave the way you think He should, so therefore He doesn’t exist. Or, shouldn’t. So there.
Time is getting short on Planet Earth, my friend. You can feel it. I pray you find The Light while you still can.

Huh.
Matthew 22:36-40 New International Version
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

It's not unusual that the Times would print this--but it's 100% intentionally nose-thumbing that they would publish it on Good Friday. Ranks right up there with Google's header of Caesar Chavez robed in white on Resurrection Sunday about 10 years ago. (The last time I visited Google.)

Nothing new here. The left is composed mostly of militant atheists and for some reason want to attack Christians. One would think a non-believer would simply ignore persons who believe in God but they don’t. They seem to want to proselytize people away from their faith. Odd that these non-believers are so intensely angry at an entity that they swear doesn’t exist.

One of the goals of communism is the elimination of GOD. All of you are aware of how the MSM treats Christianity. " Happy Holidays " anyone ? They hate Thanksgiving too which is about giving thanks to GOD. The left has framed it as a day when rotten white people killed and stole from the Indians.

Thousands of years before Darwin and modern science the writer to the Hebrews found it necessary to remind them “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.”
No reason to think that the heart of man has grown less jaded over the eons.
(Also … speaking to the same people … it is notable that God pointed out that the first person to recognize the Savior was a fetus.)

NYT has been an evil, communist-supporting newspaper since they provided cover for Stalin's massive genocide in Ukraine in the 1930s by writing a series of articles by their "reporter on the scene" who "proved" that it wasn't happening - when, of course, it was happening.
NYT is pure evil, pure communist propaganda. Never waste your time on NYT.
