Decatur, Ill.(WAND) - Everyone is feeling pain at the pump right now, but farmers are facing steep prices ahead of planting season.
"We really seen what the cost to our farmer customers is really doubled," said Mark Bauman, general manager of Central Commodity FS. They distribute fuel to farmers and they are seeing the rise in prices firsthand.
"[It's] about as high a level as we've ever seen, at least in the last, you know, few decades," (Snip) "If we're looking at the price of a bolt fertilizer commodity last year, it's been about $500 ... a lot of those were about $1,000 a ton now,"

I would prefer Putin as President over Diaper Joe... Here's why. Putin would love his country. Putin would put America first. Putin would jail the lying, America hating press. Putin would throw Pelosi and the rest of the America haters on the left, in prison. Putin would have already hanged Hillary for treason. Putin would open up the oil pipelines. Putin would put Biden in an asylum where Biden belongs. Putin would appoint Trump as Attorney General. .. Just sayin'

I hope the farmers make a ton of money this year as their efforts will be needed by billions worldwide. Heck some farmers are not even planning to till before planting - lower yields, sure but energy prices go way high when democrats run things and it might be too expensive to till fields before planting this year.
Do most people know you can order heavy equipment, trucks and machinery to run on other fuels? Yeah, LP, LNG, gasoline, diesel and some electricity. I hope farmers use their windfall profits from extreme demand expected and extremely low yields due to Biden policy. Diversify the farm equipment - Thats diversity where it counts!

During WW II, because of rating and lack of goods, many people started gardens to salient their nutrition. They were call Victory Gardens. Now we all need to consider starting these gardens again. And in honor of the man that caused this, Diaper Joe, we will call the gardens Depends Gardens!

This is why farmers in former times stocked up on pitchforks and torches for times like these.

Expect farmers to park their tractors and ride out the inflaction. By product, food and grain shortages. Stock up now as the grocery shelves will be empty soon.

Farmers are paying MORE than double for many fertilizers and inputs. Nitrous and anhydrous ARE more than double around here. Given that corn and bean prices going up a bit since the invasion, but are still lower than 10 years ago. Inputs prices have doubled, fuel prices have almost tripled and corn and bean prices are still about what they were 10 years ago?? Not making for a great year for farmers. Those higher prices for corn also mean higher prices for beef and chicken. Hay prices are going up as well - that translates to higher beef prices and MILK prices. Not looking good for food prices over all.
At my age I had quit canning food, but this year I will be digging out the canner and putting in a larger garden.

Re #9. This is how the Davos folks impoverish the middle class, by making food and fuel eat up all our finances. And how long before there's a canning jar and lid shortage? 🙄
Yes, those that know how to can from their own gardens can stay way ahead of this with some sweat equity.
How many under 60 have any idea how to do basic home canning? But meat and non-acidic foods are more difficult, requiring a pressure canner to get the required temps, and botulism the penalty for getting it wrong.
Yes, Mrs DVC and I have done it for years, not recently, though. And making cheese was successful, too, if you have access to large quantities of milk that you can't use - cheese is how you store it's food value.

God bless our farmers. They go into their fields, produce the food we need, speak only of the weather and prices, and mind their business. They win this months outstanding citizenship award. Maybe we should have a farmer's month in the spring.

Add to what #9 brought up with many ares such as here in central Texas that haven't had a decent rain since last May, and the food situation will be a big problem later this year.
