Queen Elizabeth II has permanently quit living in Buckingham Palace, according to a report. The 95-year-old UK monarch, who called the palace home for most of her record-breaking 70-year reign, has decided to permanently reside in her weekend home, Windsor Castle, according to the Times of London. The decision was based partly on an ongoing “reservicing” of the palace — but also Elizabeth’s preference for the castle, where she spent her last days with late husband Prince Philip, sources told the paper.“Windsor is the place she loves,”

I don't blame her. Windsor is home and it's near her family. At the age of almost 96, I think the queen should live where she wants to.

Do queens ever retire and pass the reigns to their heirs, or does she have to die for Philip and Camilla to step in? By the way, look at a recent picture of Philip. He looks as old as his mum.

At 95, this is unlikely to be about living where HRM wishes....

#2, I think that you mean Charles. And yes, he’s looking old because he is old - he’s 73.
From what I have read, the queen never wanted to live at Buckingham Palace. Good for her that she gets to spend her remaining time on earth exactly where she wants to.

I have known the occasional Ldotter to grouse about (ha, hunting reference!) stories of the UK's royal family. But I for one, stand in appreciation and amazement that this other Iron Lady has, with steadfast distinction, served and represented her Nation since the beginning of Dwight D. Eisenhower's first term.

I'm guessing they're getting Buckingham Palace ready for Charles and Camilla to move in when the time comes. I still hope that QEII lives as long as her mum (101) which would give her six more years, and make Charles (of femine hygiene fame) 79 when he ascends to the throne, and Camilla 80. With any luck, their reign will be short.

Hopefully it's far enough away from Harry and Miracle that she doesn't have to see them. She doesn't need that kind of distraction.

#2, Most recently, Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands retired in favor of her son, but aside from the odd abdication (Edward II, Richard II, Charles I, Edward VIII, e.g., and those didn’t end well), I can’t think of a time in British History where a crowned monarch just retired in favor of the heir.

The Queen always considered Buckingham Palace to be the office, Windsor, her home. She has a fabulous work ethic, worthy of admiration. Going home to Windsor is not a god sign. Charles is a jerk. A true believer in man made climatchangeglobalwarming.

Don't blame her a bit. Windsor has had its refurbishing finished for a long time, and would be more comfortable to live in. Who among us wants to live in a construction zone? Why should we expect her to? Long live Her Majesty.
Given the vow she took early on in her lifetime, she isn't going to abdicate. She lived through that with her feckless uncle and his mistress, and that was enough for one lifetime. Seems that Charles resembles his Uncle David a whole lot more than he does his own father doesn't it. Diana had it nailed right when she said he is truly unfit to be King.
