Russia threatened military action on Friday should NATO expand with the additions of Finland and Sweden.Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a press conference that the Nordic countries’ addition into NATO would “have serious military and political consequences.” The independent nations, which have close ties to the alliance, have historically resisted full membership, but the Russian invasion of Ukraine on Thursday may have shifted their priorities.“All [Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe] member states in their national capacity, including Finland and Sweden, have reaffirmed the principle that the security of one country cannot be built at the expense of the security of others,”

Awww...now there ya done gone and done it. Swedes, Fins, what next Laplanders?
Their leaders may be sommat Feckless, but their people are NOT.
Yer gonna make the same mistake the Prussians, Austrians, Germans, The French, Spain, and even the Holy Roman Empire made.
Bear in mind Ukrainians were Cossaks, ya really don't want THEM aligned with all of those others

I seem to recall that little Finland kicked Russia’s butt once before. And Sweden was one of the few countries sensible and honest enough to recognize the covid vaccine-mask farce. Unfortunate that our “leaders” aren’t nearly bright enough to take their example.

The correct answer is to immediately invite these two nations to join NATO. The reason is the demonstrated threat that Putin and Russia pose to democracies.

I guess Putin couldn’t stand having Justin Trudeau be the biggest SOB on the world stage any longer.

The way Putin is acting, he must have been watching Scott Morrison and Justin Trudeau, who have shown the way.

If Ukraine had joined NATO when they had the chance, things would be very different now. The rest of the NATO nations would be obligated to defend them, and that probably would have stopped Putin from starting WW-3. But they didn't, and now they can't count on anyone.
Sweden and Finland need to get in their NATO applications now. When Putin is done with Ukraine, he is not going to want to stop there!!!

Russia has a small state, Kaliningrad Oblast, and port city, Kaliningrad, formerly known as Koenigsberg under the Prussians from 1657 to 1945, that is on the Baltic but cut off from Mother Russia proper by Southeast Lithuania, Northeast Poland, and Belarus. Putin would have a big fit if two more Baltic countries, one sharing a long border with Russia, joined NATO, which is precisely what should happen, given Putin lying about Ukraine going to NATO. Because of St. Petersburg, a 300 year old port city on the Baltic, and home of the Russian Navy's headquarters, Putin might lose some sleep by the proximity of NATO bases in Finland in particular. Helsinki is roughly 250 miles to St. Petersburg.

They should definitelity join NATO now, especially Finland. I know that at least the Finns are Partners in Peace, the broader group that does some things along with NATO but they should be asking for fill NAO membership/

Sounds like to me, old Puty-Pute has spent one night too many in Crazytown. The sad thing is now that the Ukrainians have put up a fierce resistance, he will feel he cannot backdown and will go in with something massive and deadly to gain the upper hand. The world is against his invasion which means he will stiffen his resolve to save face. God bless the Ukrainians. It is a shame that Biden has so screwed up this to the extent we have zero ability to have any influence on the situation. This is what the world looks like when the United States abdicates its position as leader of the free world. Biden has much to answer for and the theiving and corrupt democrat party own every bit of his never ending failures.

Invitations to NATO should be sent to every neutral European nation, every former member of the Warsaw Pact, and every former member of the USSR.
Europe better seriously start rebuilding their militaries and determine how many troops it will take to deter Russian 'peacekeeping'.

Russian submarines sometimes harass ships in Sweden's coastal waters. I wouldn't be surprised if the Russians are lurking nearby in the Baltic Sea - itching to create an ''incident'' with either country.

It is indeed sad that the Ukrainian people were unfortunate enough to be born into one of the most corrupt nations on the planet. As regards Finland and Sweden, Putie's invasion of Ukraine obviously doesn't give them much reason to believe that NATO membership is optional.

There is a great story about the Finnish army after Russia had subjugated Poland they started to move into Finland's territory. The army was hidden and cut off supplies to invaders that starved and froze.

Putin’s gone off the rails. So far the Russians can’t even beat Ukraine with far more military and weapons than they have. He might want to dial it back. He cannot win a war against NATO and his Chinese buddies are distancing themselves from this train wreck. It might be time for the oligarchs to descend on Putin with a reality check.

During WWII my mother and her neighbors in Sweden hid children of Norwegian and Finnish officials...WE hid them in our root cellar when the gestapo came by...to take all our chickens and cows...leaving US very little except the ration cards...try and safe a little sugar from each month's ration card...so you could make a Christmas cake for the kids...BUT...WE endured the hardships and cheered when hitler killed himself....thank God my mother brought US to America...I thank my sainted mother every day!!

Finland is the natural sworn enemy of anything Russia. The Finns are fierce fighters and have a history of taking Russian military engagements apart. Not surprising that Russia doesn't want either Finland or Sweden involved in NATO.

Not so fast Putey-put! A two front war?
You might want to channel both Hitler and Stalin and find out how their winter invasions and the Lapland War didn't go so well for either one of them. The Finns were so ticked off forgeiners were on their land that they jumped out windows or ran up onto the Nazi Panzer tanks with lit Molotov cocktails and smashed them into the air vents of the tanks! That was not a joy ride for the tank's occupants.
Something about the cold and eating reindeer meat makes them a lot meaner than the average Euro trash, I guess.

People are taking not taking Russia seriously. They have thousands of small tactical nuclear weapons and it is well known that they have adopted a doctrine of first strike if threatened. They are in the middle of a military operation and they are not going to allow anything or anyone to interfere. This isn’t the US where we walk away after expending blood and treasure like we’ve done Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. This is on their doorstep not half a world away. Russia will grind through all necessary resources in men and materiel of both Russia and Ukraine to achieve their goals. Geopolitical ignorance is already getting people killed. I pray no more.

Remember when Trump took out Isis with precision accuracy? Why can't this be done against the Russians should they continue to move further into Ukraine? And who was responsible for removing guns and arms from Ukraine back in the 90's?
Why are we being bystanders? There's a much bigger story going on with the Biden's relationship with Ukraine.

The man has really lost it. The way he's acting, some of his own people may take him out. He's turning into a cornered animal. Guess he thought Ukraine would just roll over. Instead they are making him look like the sick dictator he really is. When you start killing innocent people, women and children, there is no place for you on this planet.....
