The freefall of President Joe Biden’s job approval rating continued this week, dropping to 38 percent over the past month.
Surveying 1,355 adults between February 2-4, the IBD/TIPP poll found the president’s job approval rating stood at 38 percent with a disapproval rating of 48 percent of adults, with another 14 percent undecided. The presidential leadership index, which tracks how the president is “viewed when it comes to leading the country,” put the president’s approval at 44.4 percent.

The White House on Tuesday backed the right of Canadian truckers to protest Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the overbearing coronavirus restrictions and vaccine mandates.
“We of course support as you know the right to freedom of speech and protest,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said during the daily briefing on Tuesday. “Everyone can peacefully protest, we fully support that,” she added.
The White House response differs from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who smeared Freedom Convoy protestors as a “fringe minority” with “unacceptable views” and described them as racist.

Tow truck companies are unwilling to help police haul away the vehicles that have blocked border crossings in Coutts, Alta., and gridlocked Ottawa’s downtown core, according to officials in both jurisdictions.
RCMP Deputy Commissioner Curtis Zablocki told reporters during a briefing about the blockade that had formed near the Canada-U.S. border near Coutts that the towing companies fear for their livelihood if they get involved.

As hospitalizations continue to drop, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker intends Wednesday to announce a lifting of a universal indoor masking order for most public places except for schools, a source familiar with the plan confirmed Tuesday.
His immediate focus in easing COVID-19 mitigations will be in bars, restaurants, grocery stores, museums and other common indoor areas that draw traffic, which have all been under a mask mandate since August.

Blue state governors and state health officials who most vigorously embraced pandemic restrictions are pivoting toward a new era, using Omicron’s decline to dial back precautions that have become a hallmark of the last two years.
Health departments from Oregon to Maine have over the last few weeks ended almost all of their government-run Covid-19 contact tracing operations and shifted the responsibility to the public.
At the same time, Democratic governors in the Northeast and West

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney has announced effective midnight Tuesday, the province’s COVID-19 vaccine passport program will end. At an evening news conference, Kenney said the restriction exemption program has served its purpose, but is no longer needed since Alberta passed peak of Omicron infections about three weeks ago.
“The threat of COVID-19 to public health no longer outweighs the hugely damaging impact of health restrictions on our society,” said Kenney, adding his government would only move forward if it does not threaten the capacity of the health-care system.

The Canadian government has declared a state of emergency because of the continuing protests against Ottawa’s vaccine mandate. The mayor has asked for 2,000 more police officers. Ontario Provincial Premier Doug Ford has called the protest an “occupation.” The radical left agrees and wants their very own Jan. 6 “insurrection.”
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau supports the right to protest — sort of. Actually, he has an extremely limited view of what exactly Canadians can protest about.

New York will roll back its indoor mask or vaccine mandate on Wednesday, three sources familiar with the situation told The New York Times.
Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul is expected to announce the change on Wednesday as Democrats around the country revisit coronavirus mandates in light of the omicron coronavirus wave seemingly beginning to recede.
For months, New York has mandated that indoor businesses check a person's COVID-19 vaccination status or require patrons to wear masks as cases increased with the winter and omicron variant.

As Democrats ramp up spending for the midterms, there’s an ongoing debate among national party officials, donors and major outside groups over how much time and money to commit to Florida in the wake of the party’s crushing losses there in 2020.
As part of an effort to make sure the state isn’t written off by Democrats, Latino Victory Fund, a Democratic super PAC, is backing candidates in two Florida primaries — endorsements that come with a six-figure investment in ads, fundraising events and organizing help for the state.

Jonah Goldberg, one of the two conservative political analysts who resigned from Fox News Channel in colorful fashion over the direction of its coverage, is joining CNN as a contributor, the WarnerMedia network confirmed Monday.
Goldberg, a longtime editor at National Review and a founder of The Dispatch, will appear on CNN programs as news networks gear up for the 2022 midterm elections. He and another popular conservative commentator, Stephen Hayes, took to the “Media Equation” column of The New York Times in November to say they were cutting ties with Fox News Channel, where they had been contributors since 2009. The duo expressed concern
