Disgraced New York Governor Andrew Cuomo's administration confirmed Thursday that thousands more nursing home residents died of COVID-19 than the state's official tallies had previously acknowledged, dealing another blow to his image as a pandemic hero. The surprise development, after months of the state refusing to divulge its true numbers, showed that at least 12,743 long-term care residents died of the virus as of Jan. 19, far greater than the official tally of 8,505 on that day, a 49 percent jump cementing New York's toll as one of the highest in the nation. The US Treasury said on Friday it is considering alternatives to facial-recognition technology to verify identities for online taxpayer accounts after some lawmakers raised privacy concerns.
The $86 million partnership between the Internal Revenue Service and private contractor ID.me, which was announced in November, would be one of the biggest expansions of facial recognition software made by the US government. The measure has been met with criticism from lawmakers, who argue that the software is intrusive and inaccurate.

A new court filing by special counsel John Durham reveals that Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General Michael Horowitz concealed crucial information from Durham in connection with the ongoing prosecution of Michael Sussmann, a former attorney to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.
The filing also reveals that Horowitz failed to disclose that his office is in possession of two cellphones used by former FBI general counsel James Baker. Last summer I was notified of secret overnight flights coming into Westchester County Airport that were transporting thousands of illegal immigrants apprehended at the southern border. Having overseen the airport during my tenure as county executive, I knew that flights arriving after midnight are not allowed so I started asking questions publicly.

Allison Fluke-Ekren, 42, allegedly trained her own children to use AK-47s and suicide belts, translated speeches made by ISIS leaders, and conspired to plan an attack on an American college campus, the DOJ said.
