The troubled teenage son of pop star Sinead O’Connor had escaped suicide watch in an Irish hospital the day before his death, the pop star claimed on Twitter. The distraught mom is now demanding answers from authorities. Shane O’Connor, 17, was found dead Friday outside Dublin. The cause of death was not released. “Like, how has a seventeen year old traumatised young person WHO WAS ON SUICIDE WATCH in Tallaght Hospital’s Lynn Ward been able to go missing???” O’Connor wrote Thursday.

I read his name. Suicide is horrible and wish it on no parents or friend, but reminds me of the Johnny Cash song, "Boy named Sue". You either grow up to be a mean sob, or you grow up defeated. It's doubtful you grow up normal. Somehow I'm thinking his name was the least of his problems though.

My condolences for her loss, but if she wants “answers” about her son’s mental issues, I suggest that she look in the mirror. Often, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

I have no idea what would make a 17 year old want to kill himself, but perhaps having what appears to be a nutcase for a mother would be a contributing factor, either genetically or just from being around them your whole life.
Sad, for certain, but it seems shockingly common in these various show biz families. It has to be a toxic environment to grow up in.
My grandfather was a radio performer on a national scale in the 1930s, was invited to go to Hollywood with a good friend and fellow radio singing star, Gene Autry. Another friend of the time joined the Sons of the Pioneers and then was a character actor on westerns for decades. My grandmother would always point him out when he came on Gunsmoke or some other TV western in the 60s and 70s. My grandfather decided not to go to Hollywood, and that probably saved my father and his siblings from being in that destructive environment.
Thanks, Grandpa, good choice.

I forgot to say, that my grandfather said that he chose not to go because "Hollywood isn't a good environment for a family, and I didn't want to put them through that." I wonder about that as a teen when he told me that....now I understand.

RIP.
We know -nothing- about him or how he was raised. I am not going to assume or judge or stereotype without facts.
That's what leftists do.

Sinead O’Conner’s entire train wreck of an existence has been about being the center of attention and her offspring are bound to be damaged by her. Without a beautiful singing voice she’d be an obscure fool. With one, she’s a well-known fool.

Very sad...she herself had been in and out of psych treatments, the kid had four other prior attempts.
I had a friend that was on the brink of suicide for nearly a year, over a relationship that lasted barely a month...he sat on his bed with a gun in his hand listening to "Nothing compares to You" all day and night.
Then one day someone asked if they could "temporarily" board a couple of goats at his place, just watching goats be goofy snapped him out of it. The 1st baby goats to arrive changed his entire outlook permanently.
I don't care much for goats, never have, can't stand the smell, but.. found out long ago I cannot be unhappy around a Horse.

I can't imagine anything hurting as much as losing a child to suicide. I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, we don't know what demons are inside someone's head. This a tragedy and I won't pile on O'Conner here.

Four years ago we lost a 23yr. old grandson to suicide. It's one of the worst things to go thru. I still cry just typing these words. No matter her life style choices, she must have loved her son and her grief will be with her for the rest of her life.

d'ya think the mother's lifestyle on her road to stardom had something to do with the boy's present and past condition? the boy was messed up, obviously, long before this incident, no one is set in "suicide watch' status unless there are previously known conditions which make suicide watch necessary and now she wants to blame the hospital for her negligence in raising her son???

She managed to TWEET about his death though. Good Lord.
Condolences Maggie. The death of a child or grandchild is not something one ever truly gets over.

Mummy lived in a make believe world. Poor son lived in the real, cruel world having to defend his first love.
