The University of Virginia canceled the 21-gun salute portion of its annual Veterans Day ceremony – citing gun violence. James Ryan, the university’s president, posted a statement on Facebook explaining that there were concerns about firing weapons on school property in light of recent school shootings. He said there were two specific reasons. "First, to minimize disruptions to classes, given that this event is located at the juncture of four primary academic buildings and is held at a time that classes are in session; and second, recognizing concerns related to firing weapons on the Grounds in light of gun violence

Comments:

The University of Virginia, once an elite public institution, has fallen to this. It's cowardly president is unfit to lead anything, much less a major university.

I could not call the U*niversity of Virginia 'elite.' After all, Dead Ted Kennedy attended U VA, after being kicked out of Harvard for cheating on a a Latin test.. (Dead Ted should have said, 'mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maximum culpa, but since he didn't know Latin, he could not utter those words.) Translation for you people - through my fault, through my fault, through my grieveous fault.

FTA:The blowback was apparently so significant – that President Ryan promised to re-introduce the 21-gun salute next year. The notion that students might suffer some sort of disruption because the ROTC is honoring our veterans is repulsive. I'm glad they got severe blowback. So sick of some ignorant snowflake derailing an honorable tradition.

Today’s snowflakes could never have prevailed over the Third Reich ... they would have joined forces with Neville Chamberlain and marched for peace wearing pussyhats. America’s adversaries now know that just being patient enough to allow snowflakes to prevail here will allow them to be the victor in any future confrontation. And when fools elect fools, the party is over.

When I was young, Vermont was an independent conservative beautiful place. It's still beautiful. When I moved to Virginia, it was an independent conservative beautiful place. It is still beautiful also, and other than the northeastern armpit, is still conservative.

Well finally we have taken the necessary step to keep our inner city youths from shooting each other and the random seven year old who wanders into the cross fire. Heck this could even cause the drug cartels to lay down their firearms and fight their turf wars with rubber bands and water balloons.

Side note. 21-gun salutes are reserved for Presidents, visiting heads of state, and Memorial Day observations of the fallen. Veterans deserve thanks and maybe a gun salute - but not 21.

They fire 3 volleys, and often the firing party consists of seven firers, causing the uninformed to do math ("Oh, no! I was told there would be no math!") to come up with 21 guns. Heaven forfend they would hear the Salute to the Union when 50 rounds are fired!

Does that mean that if someone had a really powerful stereo system and played the sounds of gunfire a high volume they could cause a total panic on campus? The cannon fire in the 1812 overture? Oh dear. I hope they all stay out of south Chicago.

Kamala Harris’ campaign capitalized on her viral debate moment with Joe Biden on Thursday night, making a “That little girl was me” T-shirt available via her campaign website. At the Democratic debate in Miami, Harris attacked Biden’s decades-ago work with segregationist senators, making the point personal by explaining she was a member of only the second class of black children in California to be bused to school in an effort to force desegregation. “That little girl was me,” she said directly to the former vice president.

OTTAWA - Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Monday that the victims of the Ukrainian airliner shot down in Iran would still be alive if the recent escalation of tensions in the region had not happened, according to a transcript of an interview with Global News TV. The U.S. killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad in a Jan. 3 drone strike prompted Iran to launch a missile attack on Iraqi bases housing U.S. troops on Jan. 8, hours before the passenger jet was shot down. All 176 aboard were killed, including 57 Canadians. "I think if there were

As Prince Harry and his wife, the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, make plans to move to Justin Trudeau’s woke paradise, Afua Hirsch is bitter. The author of “Brit(ish): On Race, Identity and Belonging” (yes, it reads exactly as it sounds) writes in The New York Times to claim it was racism that drove Harry and Meghan out of the United Kingdom. (Snip)The reason for Harry and Meghan’s departure is pure liberal-individualist narcissism. And both are equally responsible for that. Due to its symbolic and apolitical nature, British aristocracy are not supposed to publicly espouse political opinions, much less actively lecture people about mental health, toxic masculinity, or climate change.

Who is Q? What is Q? And, perhaps most importantly, why is Q? Q and the ever-growing worldwide movement it’s inspired have been the objects of fascination, mockery and hatred, but of surprisingly little serious analysis. Q first appeared in October 2017 on an anonymous online forum called 4Chan, posting messages that implied top-clearance knowledge of upcoming events. More than 3,000 messages later, Q has created a disturbing, multi-faceted portrait of a global crime syndicate that operates with impunity. A shocking new poll has discovered that 47 percent of young Democrats believe that other countries are better than the United States. Moreover, many young Americans admit that they wouldn’t mind other countries becoming as militarily powerful as the United States. Slightly more than one third — 36 percent — of Americans 18 to 29 say that other countries are better than the United States, according to a recent poll released by Pew Research. Among Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents under the age of 30, nearly half, 47 percent, say that there are other countries that are better than the U.S. Meanwhile, just 20 percent of Democrats age 50

Alec Baldwin is again targeting supporters of President Donald Trump, claiming this time that the “desecration of those ideals and the near moral collapse of this country falls squarely in the lap of Trump’s supporters.” “American democracy has always been a struggle between the misaligned protections of specific freedoms and a raging, at times intoxicating, 12 cylinder economy. It demanded vigilant/consistent regulation, compassion for the disenfranchised and the periodic display of a necessary sacrifice that allowed for the long term health of our society at the expense of short term whims,” Baldwin’s began, in a longwinded social media rant

On Monday’s broadcast of ABC’s “The View,” Rep. Trump re-upped his calls for you and Speaker Nancy Pelosi over the weekend. He was tweeting all about that. Joe Biden has said that he would not testify,

A Democratic presidential campaign field that was once touted as the most diverse in history has been whittled down to six candidates on its debate stage, all of them white. For Oakland Democratic Rep. Barbara Lee, that’s a problem. Lee says the Democratic National Committee’s rules for determining who can participate in its presidential debates is “systematically discriminatory” against people of color. To qualify for Tuesday’s debate in Iowa, a candidate had to receive contributions from 225,000 donors nationally and receive at least 7% support in two polls from the early-voting states — Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina

Fearing a repeat of the deadly violence that engulfed Charlottesville more than two years ago, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam plans to declare a temporary emergency Wednesday banning all weapons, including guns, from Capitol Square ahead of a massive rally planned next week over gun rights. That's according to two state officials who were briefed on the plans but not authorized to speak publicly about them. The governor, a Democrat, plans to announce the plans at a news conference Wednesday afternoon because of credible threats of potential violence and extremism, one official said.
