Oh my, this is terrible. I would never want to experience a home fire. My husband's apartment was destroyed by fire when he was in the Navy. They lost everything. His young daughter, who lost her cat, was very traumatized by it.
I know this area well, as I lived in Northern Virginia for many years. McLean, VA is a very affluent neighborhood, where many government officials live, right near CIA Hqs. Chain Bridge is a very historic road. Lots of beautiful homes. The Robbs are by now aging citizens, and they have probably lost everything. I would not want to wish this on anyone, whether they live in a trailer park or a mansion. We should not rejoice over this.

Thank you poster #3. It is beyond my understanding how some people can be so cold and uncaring as to bring politics into a story like this.

In 1973 - - as I was passing through DC National Airport - - now Beloved Ronald Reagan Airport - - I noticed that the gift shop had some items on sale. One of them was a Lady Bird Johnson refrigerator magnet.
I've had many refrigerators since then - - but the Lady Bird magnet is still on my newest one. Gee - - I wonder how much that rare object is worth nowadays - - - - -

The Robbs just celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. Their home was filled with memories and American history. Whether or not you liked LBJ, the interviews I have seen of Lynda Robb show a very gracious woman, very much like her mother. I honestly don't remember the years of Governer Robb, as I was probably overseas at the time.
This sort of loss and devastation can kill people. You don't recover from this. I cannot imagine how one would even begin to cope with such an ennormous loss, especially the elderly, who already have health issues. We need to keep the Robb family in our prayers.

I will be forever grateful to Lady Bird for her "Keep America Beautiful" campaign. Of all the first ladies, she was probably the most effective as her legacy lives with us today.
I agree with #3 - losing your home and everything in it, including beloved pets, whatever the circumstances (fire, tornado, hurricane, flood, earthquake) is a disaster I don't wish on anyone, particularly to seniors who stand to lose a lifetime of memories. That it happened during the Christmas season makes it all the more painful.

Marine Corps officer, was one of those Dress uniform Marines, stationed around/in the Whitehouse...caught the eye of the Presidents Daughter. She scandalized Daddy by dating "the Help". Their eventual wedding was like a "Royal" wedding, he was then sent to Viet Nam, served well and honorably...his medals for valor were earned , not political gifts.(Kerry/Gore)
This story refers to him a a Governor, but he only served one term there. 12 years a senator, the Only Dem senator to vote for all parts of the Repub "Contract with America". Voted to Confirm Clarence Thomas, breaking with the Dem party.
He did apparently have a fling with a Miss Virginia/Playboy bunny, have some beach parties where cocaine was present....and was caught taping cell phone messages of an opponent and leaked them to the press(He and his staff were not aware that cell conversations though broadcast over airwaves were treated as "Phone calls" would be on a landline under the Law)
Just published a Memoir in April, if/when I see a copy at a used bookstore, I'll certainly read it. His overall record is much closer to what a "Republican/Conservative" is today than what the Dem party has morphed into.
Oh...he was also key in the creation of "Super Tues", giving smaller, particularly southern states, prominence/parity in how campaigns needed to be run. Instead of focusing on Just really big cities and urbanized states with major media markets.

Not to diminish the gravity of the Robb's loss, but the photos do not portray this as much of a "mansion." A large, comfortable two-storey home maybe, but not what I think of as a "mansion." Real estate prices in Virginia must be outrageous--on a par with Silicon Valley--for this home to be worth $3.4 million.

#10, the house is over 50 years old. Knowing the area where it is located, I'd guess that the land value is probably at least $2,500,000, maybe more. As in many places in the best neighborhoods, it was at the point where it would go for lot value, the old house razed and a true mansion built in its place.
