SEATTLE - Twenty years ago, just days before the 9/11 attacks on the United States crippled the aerospace industry, Boeing Co (BA.N) moved its headquarters from its historic Seattle manufacturing hub to a stylish downtown Chicago skyscraper. The move was central to Boeing's plan to forge a new identity as a diversified global juggernaut, distancing top executives from the daily operations inside far-flung business units, and getting closer to Wall Street and major customers. Two decades on, in the midst of a fresh crisis shaking the industry, Boeing's corporate hub is in a state of limbo. A new crop of

No mention that widespread violence and political incompetence make Chicago a poor location. But some fear exiting the city would provoke a firestorm from the powers-that-be.

What runs Boeing these days. Is the corporate leadership made up of insiders with 20-30 years experience in the aeronautical industry loyal to the company? Or is it a bunch of outside or corporate looters?

Not a word on their push for Diversity and Equity, hiring non-WHITE engineers, many from overseas, who work cheap but whose skills are such that the product is now unreliable. That's no concern for the executives, whose corporate vision extends out to a horizon of the next fiscal quarter. Move your offices again, collect more tax incentives, pad your bonus.

We have all seen this dance before.🥱 The Corp says won't leave meanwhile the HQ gets empty while the city falls into anarchy where shootouts are not persecuted.😲 They are looking around for a deal, tax breaks etc.., & when a Red State makes the offer they will be gone.😚 Chicago was better run & safer when Capone was in charge.😄

PHOENIX — The mustard-colored apartments built as public housing more than half a century ago are among the hottest spots in Phoenix, with only a few scrawny trees and metal clothesline poles offering shade in dusty courtyards. The two-story stucco structures in Edison-Eastlake, a historically Black neighborhood that has become majority Latino, are among the last still standing halfway through a six-year redevelopment project that aims to better protect residents from extreme heat amid a megadrought in the West. Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., was sharply criticized Wednesday after being caught on video claiming she was only wearing a mask at an event because a Republican tracker was present. The video, posted on Twitter by the Washington Free Beacon, showed the masked "Squad" member mingling with a group of mostly masked people outdoors. Tlaib briefly walked out of site behind someone before one of the unmasked individuals can be heard apologizing for not wearing his mask as he puts it on his face. DENVER — Colorado state Sen. Kerry Donovan, a leading Democratic challenger to Republican U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert in next year’s election, has suspended fundraising for her campaign after the state’s independent congressional redistricting commission approved a map that places Donovan’s residence in another district. Donovan tweeted this week that she won’t accept donations because the proposed map for the 3rd Congressional District, which Boebert represents, doesn’t include her hometown of Vail or her ranch in neighboring Wolcott. The map submitted to Colorado’s Supreme Court for approval places Donovan in the 2nd District, which is represented by Democratic U.S. Rep. Joe

In the history of the pandemic in the U.S., 2020 will be remembered as the most disruptive year, a time when the coronavirus shut down businesses, schools, sports, travel and many more staples of everyday life. But 2021 has surpassed its predecessor as the deadliest year. That threshold, especially lamentable considering the widespread availability of COVID-19 vaccines in the country since the spring, was crossed Tuesday when the U.S.'s world-leading total of coronavirus deaths went over the 704,000 mark. The 2020 tally was 352,000, or half that number. On Tuesday afternoon, the Washington National Cathedral plans to toll its funeral

Charlotte’s refugee resettlement agencies are warning of a potential roadblock for the influx of Afghans who fled the country during the Taliban takeover in August: finding an affordable place to live. Resettlement agencies — those tasked with providing support for refugees, asylum seekers and others who flee international crises — rely on landlords for open apartments and houses where they can place displaced families. In Charlotte, though, it will be complicated. Housing markets are tight. Apartments and houses are bought up or rented quickly, leaving few options for the agencies tasked with helping vulnerable international families who are starting new

"Single-family zoning" is no more in Seattle following a city council vote Monday. The bill, sponsored by Councilmembers Teresa Mosqueda and Dan Strauss, will replace the city’s single-family zoning moniker with "neighborhood residential zoning," according to MyNorthwest. While it won't change the actual makeup of Seattle’s density, it does away with a term regarded by critics as rooted in discriminatory red-lining policies. "The legislation passed today brings us one step closer to a more inclusive Seattle," Mosqueda said in a news release following the bill’s passage. WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden on Monday urged Republican senators to “get out of the way” and let Democrats suspend the nation’s debt limit, hoping to keep the U.S. government from bumping dangerously close to a credit default as Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell refuses to lend his party’s help. Biden’s criticism came with Congress facing an Oct 18 deadline to allow for more borrowing to keep the government operating after having accrued a total public debt of $28.4 trillion. The House has passed a measure to suspend the debt limit, but McConnell is forcing Senate Democrats into a cumbersome

Divorce usually isn’t a good idea, and that’s especially true of a nearly 250-year-old continental nation. The notion of a national breakup has long simmered as a fringe argument, but it is increasingly popular in certain precincts of the political right and has gained at least some traction with partisans of both sides. A recent survey by the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia found that about 50 percent of Donald Trump voters and 40 percent of Joe Biden voters agreed to some extent with the proposition that the country should split up, with either red or blue states seceding.
