New Zealand´s central bank raised interest rates for the first time in more than seven years on Wednesday, removing some of the support it put in place when the coronavirus pandemic began.
The Reserve Bank raised the benchmark rate to 0.5% from a record low 0.25%.The move came despite an ongoing lockdown in Auckland, its largest city, due to a coronavirus outbreak.
The bank said the lockdown had badly affected some Auckland businesses but a broad range of indicators pointed to New Zealand´s economy performing strongly overall. It said inflation was expected to rise to 4% in the short term before easing to 2% in the medium term.

On Saturday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Yasmin Vossoughian Reports,” Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) argued that the $3.5 trillion price tag for the Build Back Better Act reconciliation package “is a modest investment” for an economy the size of America’s.
Torres said, “[T]here’s misconception about the price tag of the Build Back Better Act. The Build Back Better Act, the original draft, it is not 3.5 trillion over the course of a year. It’s over the course of ten years. So, it’s $350 billion. Which, for a $20 trillion economy like ours, is a modest investment. So, I think it’s shortsighted to focus on the price tag.”

The Ryder Cup, a biennial competition between the twelve best golfers from America and Europe, was won by the United States yesterday. It was a dominant and historic win, with the U.S. scoring an unprecedented nineteen points; a remarkable performance by the most likeable group of golfers we’ve seen in ages.
But before we get to their brilliance as athletes – and yes, they are not only athletic, they are extraordinarily so – let’s review some other aspects of our 2021 Ryder Cup Team for which we should all be proud.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) reaped a whirlwind of criticism this past week when she attempted to explain her “present” vote for a bill that would allot funds to Israel’s Iron Dome defense system.
Following the vote, which passed the House 420-9, AOC characterized herself as a victim in a lengthy letter in which she confessed to crying over the “complete lack of regard I often feel our party has to its most vulnerable and endangered members.”

More than 20,000 Haitians now living in South America may try to copy the Texas migration success of their fellow nationals, according to NBC News.
NBC reported September 20:
U.S. officials are tracking large groups of Haitians in Latin America, including more than 20,000 in Colombia, who like the thousands now massed on the Texas border may soon try to reach the U.S., according to an internal document obtained by NBC News.
In addition to the 20,000 Haitians gathered in northern Colombia, DHS is also monitoring groups of about 1,500 in Panama and 3,000 in Peru, the document said.

NBC political director Chuck Todd said Sunday that President Joe Biden appeared to be facing down “pretty big credibility crisis.”
Todd spoke with fellow MSNBC host Willie Geist on “Sunday Today” to discuss the political news of the day, from the growing crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border to reports confirming that a U.S. drone strike had killed an Afghan aid worker and his family rather than the intended ISIS-K operators. Geist mentioned those issues along with the FDA’s announcement recommending COVID-19 booster shots for only those at high risk or over 65, despite Biden’s plan to make boosters available for everyone by September.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said Tuesday he is not “bluffing” on Senate Republicans’ stand on the debt ceiling.
McConnell told Punchbowl News that Republicans will not help the Democrat-controlled Congress raise the debt ceiling, which is required for the government to continue operating alongside a bill to fund the government.
The leading Senate Republican said that Democrats have the onus of raising the debt ceiling:

The latest Golden/TIPP poll shows that nearly two-thirds (63 percent) of Americans believe the Biden administration’s way of withdrawing from Afghanistan was a mistake.
Biden’s botched withdrawal ended with the deaths of 13 U.S servicemembers and many wounded, along with hundreds of Americans still trapped in the Taliban-controlled country.
The poll asked respondents, “Please indicate the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement: The way the Biden Administration executed the withdrawal from Afghanistan was a mistake.”

I ask this question for two reasons:
I have seen enough videos and read about enough officer-civilian interactions to know that the act of subduing a lethal threat requires several rounds.
If an intruder entered my home and threatened my wife and child, I would shoot until I was able to ensure the target was immobilized.
As to the first statement, there are plenty of examples of police officers firing multiple shots at a suspected threat. In the past year, the American public has been thoroughly able to parse through the shootings of criminals like Breonna Taylor and Antonio Brown, to name just two examples.

On Thursday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “The ReidOut,” host Joy Reid stated that while New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) should resign, he “did a much better job on the pandemic than Trump, even with all of the issues.” And “was a good crisis manager for what it was worth,” despite his many “issues, including nursing homes.”
Reid began by stating that Cuomo should resign and would do so if he had a conscience. She later added that “If Cuomo gets impeached, he gets impeached. I literally don’t care what happens to him.
