One of the more common questions that’s been making the rounds lately, particularly in terms of how various countries are handling their pandemic responses, is “what the heck is happening to Australia?” The most heavily populated states in the country have been imposing some of the harshest lockdowns and COVID restrictions in the world, with videos emerging showing police firing rubber bullets into crowds, macing elderly women, and beating people down in the streets, all for the crime of being outdoors without permission. But now even more chaos down under is making headlines. The main focus seems to be on the state of New South Wales,

“ But as one Aussie analyst recently quipped during the evening news, the problem isn’t that Australia is peopled by folks who are the descendants of criminals and prisoners. The problem is that it’s being ruled by the descendants of jailors.” That can explain a lot about the mindset of Aussie government types. Also they’re more British in their thinking than Americans.

If you read the articles linked to the posted article, apparently Gladys Berejiklian resigned because of a corruption investigation, but professes not to know what it is about. That sounds fishy - if you are innocent, or believe you're innocent, why not stay and fight. If I had to guess (and that's what I'm doing), I'd guess she knows exactly what it is about, knows it is serious, and gambles that the investigation will die with her out of office. It may not die, but it will lose steam with her out of office.

Dear Aussie cousins...learn from what has happened (and still is happening) here. The ONLY way the virus will disappear is through acquired natural immunity (i.e., when a significant portion of the population gets it and gets over it). It will NOT be stopped by lockdowns, masking, or ineffective pseudo-vaccines. The authorities are lying to you, just as they are lying to us here.

American state media is not carrying the stories of Australia or France. Youtube is suppressing this information. You have to got to Rumble to see the videos. I saw one video of 4 Australian police going from house to house to question residents if they had been to a protest, or were planning to attend a protest, and a list of other questions. I was glad to see the truckers blocking the roads in protest. I saw empty grocery shelves because the truckers are not delivering food. The construction workers have filled the streets in protest. The Australian police have used rubber bullets, tear gas, physical force on protestors just standing there. The intolerance of the Australian left is they have no tolerance for the opposition to live or work. I hope the protests get larger and the people of Australia and France win back their freedoms. Despite what Dr. Fauci says about surrendering our freedoms in America, that is never going to happen. If force is used on those who love freedom, then force will be used to protect freedom.

The government giving itself total control and power over the people in the form of lockdowns tends to lead to corruption and chaos in the leadership who feels that they can act unchecked. Once the general population gets wind of this, it will lead to unrest and more chaos and civil disobedience will begin.

#2, That "quipped" explanation fits exactly with what my former boss told me about his decade serving as a minister in Australia. He found a lot of relatively hidden social dysfunction that seems related to this prisoner-jailer mentality. And a deep seated hatred of all who succeed in society by many blue collar folks. I was quite surprised, but then, I've never been to Australia, and all I "know" comes from movies and books. Clearly not the whole story. And the "jailer" mentality....yep, that sure fits with what we've been seeing. "Geez, those leaders act like Nazi prison guards"...Oh, wait.

I dunno about the jailer mentality with the Aussies. There was a time in their past when some of the police were as corrupt and evil as what we see again today, but I speculate this pitiless sword at the throat of citizen power comes from earlier in their British past, where a thread of un-democratic blunt force has survived for hundereds of years, surely from before the wars of the roses era. It comes out today in the UK in such forms as their over the top control of firearms, lest the yeomenry can protect their persons, and potentially thwart the will of the state. It may, in fact be hatred and rejection of this aspect of British reality that empowered the American revolution. The King's will has not prevailed here.

Amid the border crisis, which escalated last week with the apprehension of over ten thousand Haitian migrants, President Biden has fallen out of favor with the majority of Hispanic Americans over his handling of immigration policy. Sixty-nine percent of Hispanics disapprove of Biden’s handling of immigration, while only 23 percent approve, according to a new Quinnipiac poll released Wednesday. As for the Biden administration’s handling of deportations of illegal aliens, 41 percent of Hispanic respondents say it is ” not aggressive enough” while 20 percent say Biden has been “acting appropriately.” As thousands of Haitian migrants have been released into the country, under the pretense

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) on Wednesday floated a short-term extension of the debt limit in order to avoid a looming default. “Whether through miscalculation or a deliberate effort to bully their own members into wrecking the Senate, top Democrats have risked adding a default crisis to the inflation crisis, border crisis, and Afghanistan crisis they have already created,” McConnell said in a statement. Republicans “have already made it clear we would assist in expediting the 304 reconciliation process for stand-alone debt limit legislation,” McConnell continued. “We will also allow Democrats to use normal procedures to pass an emergency debt limit extension at a fixed dollar

In the wake of the botched Afghanistan withdrawal, persistent inflation, poor job performance data, and a prolonged pandemic, Americans have higher confidence in the Republican Party to promote international security and domestic prosperity than the Democratic Party. After nearly a year of Democratic-dominated federal governance, the competence rating for the GOP has soared in these two policy areas, a boost driven mainly by independents, according to a recent Gallup poll conducted September 1-17. The independent voting bloc has unsurprisingly steered the shift in favorability, given that each respective party believes it is superiorly equipped to maintain our economic prowess and protect the country from dangers abroad. Democrats suffered a 12 percent

I keep coming back to the fact that there’s no apparent strategic logic behind the GOP blocking a debt-ceiling hike. They’re not holding out in hopes that Democrats will make some concession in exchange for their votes. Republicans aren’t demanding anything, McConnell has said repeatedly. They’re not pretending that it’d be no big deal if the U.S. defaulted on its debt either. It’d be cataclysmic, McConnell acknowledges. The debt ceiling simply must be raised, he says. They’re not refusing to raise the ceiling because doing so would block Democrats from passing their reconciliation mega-bill. The debt ceiling applies to spending that’s already been incurred,

Forty-seven percent of the registered voters said they would rather see the Republican Party win control of the House, while only 44 percent of the registered voters said they would want the Democrats. There were also nine percent who did not give an opinion. However, in September, the results were almost the opposite; 43 percent of registered voters said the Republican Party, while 47 percent said the Democrat party. There were also 11 percent who did not give an opinion.

ust last month, numbers showed that Democrats were losing any kind of foothold they had over Florida as its registration numbers continued to shrink by leaps and bounds. It was one of the few remaining glimmers of hope in the state of DeSantis, and now they’re watching helplessly as it shrinks to nothing. The once purple battleground state of Florida is becoming a very deep red as Democrats lead in registration by only 24,000 voters. But the news is even worse. It seems other battleground states are seeing more red creep in than blue as registration numbers tank around the country. According to The Hill, swing states are noticing a trend

Anyone who still doubts that “moderate” Merrick Garland’s Justice Department is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the far left should check out the news that Garland has threatened to investigate and prosecute parents who vigorously protest against school boards and teachers intent on indoctrinating school children in the racist, anti-American teachings of Critical Race Theory. Garland did so through this memorandum. Garland claims that free-speech principles must yield when they represent “efforts to intimidate individuals based on their views.” Andy McCarthy notes an implicit exception if the individuals happen to be Sen. Sinema or Sen. Manchin. The implicit exception is broader.

A noteworthy leftover from yesterday. To give you a sense of how eager Democrats are to expand access to abortion, a few months ago House Dems voted unanimously in favor of a Medicaid bill that would cover the cost of the procedure for the first time in 45 years. The party has been radicalized on this issue and they’re willing to use some of their power to prove it. Unfortunately for them, the potential 50th vote in the Senate for the reconciliation deal on which Biden’s entire domestic agenda depends happens to be pro-life Joe Manchin. Three glistening new buildings in downtown Seattle with 165 studio apartments — originally to be rented at market rates — will instead house the homeless. The Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) is buying the buildings with taxpayer dollars for about $50 million, with federal COVID-19 relief funds splitting the cost equally. Seattle City Hall is contributing about $25 million, while also using “American Rescue Plan Act” funds. A large portion comes from Washington State’s Department of Commerce.
