Extended rent moratoriums and the slow distribution of billions in federal rent assistance are driving many small landlords to call it quits. “Nobody wants to become a landlord anymore,” said Diane Baird, (Snip) Mike Bodeis, president of the 450-member Port Huron Area Landlord Association, and himself the owner of 40 rental houses, told The Epoch Times, “It’s a myth that 3.6 million Americans may soon be made homeless. Two-thirds of them could be paying their rent, but are not because they choose not to. They did not choose to pay their rent or utility bills with all the stimulus money they received.

Here we have our ever-emboldened overlords intentionally killing off another sector of our economy, one that many regular people get into on a small scale. Purchasing a second home as a rental property (and maybe potential flip) is quite do-able for those of modest means who wish to dream a little bigger. This is a nightmare.

There is no incentive for tenants to claim the government rent assistance. They can keep squatting in the same place for free without lifting a finger. Loudmouth congresswomen will make sure the deadbeat tenants continue the scam.

I had to go to an attorney for help to force a tenant to let a roof repairman onto my property. What a mess! I finally got rid of the renter but his dog had destroyed the carpets. And that with a “no pets” clause in the contract. I’m too old for that crap. People just don’t care. It’s too easy and cheap to replace broken stuff. This can’t end well.

I've known a number of people who worked hard and kept places they'd moved out of and into new homes or bought places as rental properties. They thought it was a good source of extra income and a retirement investment. I admired them for their work and future vision, but owning rental properties would have given me ulcers! For many of them their properties became a horror story as their time was consumed repairing holes in the walls and replacing ripped out plumbing. Liberal politicians enacted more and more laws and policies preventing them from managing their properties and evicting deadbeats. Now, the federal government has put final nail into their coffin.

This speaks volume to the moral decline of this country. 12 million would prefer to sit at home and collect government money. Not pay their bills and not lift a finger to help their landlords get government money for their own rent.

I've known several people who owned rental properties. Every one of them has at least one horror story of nightmare tenants, and that was before the eviction moratorium. One told me, "all it takes is one bad tenant, and you want out of the rental property business." My mom had a small rental she inherited that was a nice source of supplemental income for years. One non-paying tenant who she couldn't evict for a year, and she sold out.

New Zealand is closing its borders for the remainder of the year, continuing the country’s embrace of a total isolationist strategy in its fight against the coronavirus. On Thursday, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the country’s borders “will never be the same after” the pandemic, likening the situation to the 9/11 attacks. “Just like after 9/11, the border will never be the same after Covid … things can change, but that doesn’t mean we can’t adapt to them in a way that eventually feels normal again,” said Ardern.(Snip)Since the start of the pandemic, New Zealand adopted a strict border protection policy, which resulted in only 26 coronavirus-related deaths.

Chicago -- Chicago health officials on Thursday reported 203 cases of COVID-19 connected to Lollapalooza, casting it as a number that was anticipated and not yet linked to any hospitalizations or deaths. “Nothing unexpected here,” Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady said at a news conference. “No sign of a ‘superspreader event’. But clearly with hundreds of thousands of people attending Lollapalooza we would expect to see some cases.” The four-day music festival, which started two weeks ago, drew about 385,000 people to a lakefront park.
