PayPal has backtracked on a published policy that would have fined users $2,500 for spreading “misinformation,” claiming the update had gone out “in error.”
“An AUP notice recently went out in error that included incorrect information. PayPal is not fining people for misinformation and this language was never intended to be inserted in our policy. Our teams are working to correct our policy pages. We’re sorry for the confusion this has caused,” a spokesperson told National Review in a written statement.
The course reversal comes after the policy changes had started to attract media scrutiny as well as criticism on Twitter. Former PayPal president David Marcus even blasted the company

Yeah, SURE it was a minor mistake...that's why they are having to comb the entire plethora of pages to purge this minor mistake. And if it wasn't meant to be there, exactly WHY was it written in the first place?

They define "hate".
They define "disinformation".
They define "misinformation".
They define "intolerance".
They don't provide anybody with the parameters of the above infractions. Just exactly what the heck is "disinformation"?
Then they take YOUR money.
And then they say "Oh gosh, it was all a mistake...". Yeah, riiiiight.
Y'all better get away from that company. You'd do better with a Romanian hacker.
Maybe Elon should add payment processing to Twitter. His new company could pay itself off.

“Never intended” my …..! Did those words just randomly fall into order via some word processing bot? Why would it even be written if it wasn’t intended to be used. Tech companies get away with murder with no real risk..if they do get called out on something and decide to backtrack, it’s always just a “mistake”. Right.

Of course everyone is closing their account. Who wouldn’t? Suddenly they think they’re entitled to $2500 of your money because you posted something they don’t agree with? ‘Misinformation’ is a new buzzword that means ‘information we don’t agree with’. Other than that it means nothing. These people have lost their minds.

My guess - too many people started cancelling their PayPal accounts.
I follow someone on fb who was really upset over the number of his subscribers who cancelled their subscriptions to him. They had cancelled their PayPal accounts which in turn cancelled recurring payments. Oh he was angry! He must have lost a substantial number of subscribers! I wonder how many people actually quit PayPal?

They didn’t say that the policy was an error. Only that it being made public was an error. I wonder who hit the “send” key and what is going to happen to him/her. Now let’s see if they actually do change this policy…

What the heck does a payment processing company (in essence a bank) have to do with "misinformation"? And what exactly does it look at to confirm you misinformed about something? This is beyond stupid.

Just another way for wokies to manipulate your money...scaring and shaming is their game....shutting down free speech and making it difficult to do business....if you're a conservative...sound familiar ?

"Misinformation" could mean the customer is supporting a cause or a group that PayPal doesn't like i.e. a conservative or Christian group. So they label these monies, misinformation. This could be like GoFundMe and the Canadian Truckers that the Bay Are group, GFM refused to send those contributions to.

Yeah, it wasn't merely an email error or email 'error'. I didn't even get an email. When I saw the first article on it here several days ago I went there, went to the customer 'agreement' posted on their website and confirmed it directly.
Immediately I tried to close my account, and told them why, but they refused to close the account. I did manage to de-link my bank account and credit card from the account. I'll never use them again.
Nor will I ever use eBay again which was my main reason for signing up with PayPalpatine (my new name for PayPal) in the first place, about a month after they first went into business.
I won't miss either one much. the last few years, both entities have really ruined themselves with bad 'customer agreements' that I don't believe that their customers really agreed with.
Bye Bye, PayPalpatine.

I use PayPal for purchases. Not sure how they could fine me. I'm also not sure how they have the time to find out what information I'm sharing anywhere. Even on here. That would take some major hacking or stealth of information. Who do they think they are? Better yet, who are they telling US that they are?

I suspect this was a kind of trial balloon.
There is simply no legal basis that PayPal could have ever done this and no court would support this obvious abridgement of free speech. Even if a low court went along with it, the SCOTUS would likely be unanimous in any decision about the legal basis for this idea.
My vote goes for 'testing the waters to see what kind of reaction there would be'... sort of like when New Coke came out in the 1980's then, when people revolted against it, Coca-Cola came back with Coke Classic... but this time with high fructose corn syrup instead of cane sugar. They made a purposeful 'blunder' that has netted them billions and billions of dollars in savings ever since.
